Shop refuses to center mount skis

My friend was refused by our local shop when he brought his skis in to have them mounted. I was just talking to him and he said the conversation basically went:

Friend: Would you be able to mount these at the center rather than 2.5 back?

Shop: Nahh man that is what the factory recommends that's what you need them mounted at.

Friend: But I am using these as a park ski and want them centered because I am riding switch a lot.

Shop: Trust me it will mess the skis up if we do that. I've been in this business a long time.

Friend: I already emailed the manufacturer and they said some of their pros ride them center.

Shop: Yeah, but you're not a pro are you?

Friend: That doesn't matter. If you won't mount these skis how I want them I'll find someone who will.

*Friend walks out*

Anyone have a similar experience? I don't know what to do now because I want my skis mounted somewhere different than what Armada recommends. Guess I'll have to drive to a different shop.

thats so gay! dont try and mount them yourself because my buddy ended up wrecking his 2010 armada halos because he thought he could do it using his tools and the internet!

Was probably exaggerated, considering he called me after it happened and incredibly pissed, but in the end I guess they wouldn't do it, so I will just take them somewhere else. There are a good few shops in the Pittsburgh/western PA area. If anyone has any recs I'm open.

My local shop said the same thing to me.

they told me how center mount would mess up the rinding experience because center mount didn't match up with the carving and stuff, but I told them I was a park rat and they said they would mount at center but I was responsible and could come back and complain if the ski was bad to use outside the park!

Yeah I've actually heard this alot lately from peeps....see what probably happened was some douchebag kid hurt himself and tried to sue everyone under the sun over it....probably including his local shop for not mounting in the recommended place.

this is most likely the case for the OP's friend. Why else would a shop refuse taking his money?

Having worked in a ski shop for 8+ years, so many customers try to sue the shop over the most stupid thing. This is most likely a case of a shop trying to protect themselves from an earlier "favor" turned into a lawsuit.

Ive actaully had a very similar conversation. I asked for a center mount and they refused and mounted them recommended. Another time the shop kept the skis i had bindings taken off and i didnt realize it at the time..never got em back. Havent walked back into that shop since.

It’s funny how stubborn old guys who have worked at the same

shop for 30+ years can be. I have dealt with similar situations many times and

the conversation always goes the same. You tell them what you want and they can’t

believe it. Yes, I want my Hellbents as close to center as possible… That’s what

the ski was designed for, a jibby playful pow ski. Yes I want my park skis at 1

back from true center. Then they try to talk you into moving the mount back and

you tell them no. Look at it from their perspective, if carving groomers is

what skiing means to you after 30 years - you would think someone’s nuts for

mounting anywhere near center.

if you have a lot of shops around you dont sweat it. brush it off and take it to another shop. no biggie

But don't hate on the shop....like I said it was probably to protect themselves...imagine if the kid who got hurts parents were lawyers...whoa boy....I can hear the line of questioning now..."was there any other line on the ski other than the recommended line? No? Than you sir are at fault because you should've known better."

... And I can hear them getting laughed out of court. There is something called "causation". It's a pretty different situation than suing the shop that set the FP on your binding after blowing your knee because your binding didn't release properly.

You would think that, sometimes stuff like that pulls through, lots of time it doesn't. My dads a lawyer, not one you would call for a situation like this, but for large insurance claims. Like the company that made asbestos, the huge insurance claim that got fled against them since it hurt people and they knew and sold it anyway. So much stupid shit gets through courts like that and the wrong guy loses.

Dude I'm from a family of lawyers and law enforcement....I've seen it all....causation...that's cute....but anyway yeah a majority of em are complete scumbags....people have a sense of the way they "think" the world works....then there's people who have seen how it actually goes down....pretty disgusting...and it's all perspectivized....everybody thinks they're doin the right thing from their perspective but no one ever listens to that little voice tellin em "dude this is wrong".....but anyway back to mounting....lmao

What's stupid about that? If a company gets sued and has a liability insurance policy they're going to try to make a claim, the insurance company will try to find a way to deny the claim, and then they'll fight about it.

Yeah you're right this is off topic, the US is a banana republic where people file frivolous suits all the time, and all I remember about tort liability is what I learned in law school many a year ago and have never used since.

Anyway, go find a shop that will do what you want, is the long and short of it.

@jd....didn't call ya stupid....was jus sayin there's textbook and then how it actually goes down is all...no ill will directed your way bro

I got sued by a woman from LA while skiing at Mammoth. She was standing in a blind spot behind a pump house, i came around the corner, and BAM, broken eye socket from helmet whiplash (i was 13, so i was like 5'3-5'5). She sued me for skiing recklessly, and my dad for raising me to be a reckless skier. Lawsuit totaled 1.5 million. Thank god for umbrella insurance.

Yeah dude I was skiing once at my local mountain and chick who was with us tried a box her first time and ate it....I was helping her gather her poles and skis when some little fat kid came flyin around the corner on skiboards and went face first into my shoulder....his nose exploded...like literally....blood everywhere....I'm tryin to help stop the bleeding and all he could say was please don't beat me up, I didn't mean it....I was like dude clam down I'm not gonna beat ya up I'm tryin to help ya.....I was havin a tough time stopping the bleeding and his friends all jus took off so I literally picked him up and skied him to the ski patrol station....by that time his mom and dad were there with his friends....while ski patrol was workin on the kids face the parents were outside with me literally for like half an hour jus going over how I shouldn't try to sue them and giving their lawyers info....I kept askin if they were serious....I was like your sons in there with a nose in three pieces and your out here askin if I'm gonna sue?.....kept tellin em I was fine and had no intent....like a week later their lawyer contacted me and asked my court intent?....I ended signing something saying I wouldn't sue them but wow.....shits outta control ya know?

Jus re-read what I wrote...."chick tried a box for the first time and ate it"....lmfao....no intended sexual inuendo I swear.....ahahaha
