Shooting At Va Tech

Yeah how about we turn our attention from some idiot and focus on the fact that a gunman killed 32 people and wounded 29 others, kthx.

I am turning my attention from you(you're a moron) to mourn the 32 people killed at VTech. My prayers are with the students families and friends.

the degree to which we perceive something as tragic depends on our exposure to it.

our reaction to an event like this, whose occurrences are few and far between, is not reflected in the media, but controlled by it. "we" turn it over, dissect it, and sensationalize. and of course, politicize.

but such treatment is perfectly appropriate. it's an indictment of american culture, especially this modern one, that feeds on fear.

No pretty sure he meant me but whatever anybody who has shit to say can message me.

Does anybody know if he used 30 bullet clips?

Im going to take a different angle on this. And pray for all those who died, including the killer, he needs our prayers just as much as his victims if not more. May your souls rest in peace and may you find forgiveness witht your victims and the Lord.

Calm down. I never said I'm going to base my opinion on one race because of some kid, but the fact of the matter is that people do. When Columbine happened, I didn't hear about any attacks on white people because the killers were white, the only minorities who would draw such a conclusion hate white people already. However, one of my friends has three roommates from the south who I met, and I know that they are going to use this incident to prejudice against Asians. They went off on a rant about black people after it said on the news that a black kid's mom gave him a gun to get revenge on someone. But I'll bet they didn't say a word about race after Columbine, or the school shootings earlier this year, when white people were the perpetrators. And as far as your saying "you probably watch cnn and love how they blame the school and shit" I don't understand how that relates to anything I said previously. I don't think the school handled the situation properly, and I believe that a lock down order should have been in place after they found two students murdered in a dorm, but there was only so much the school could do. Like someone said, if someone is willing to die to kill people, then almost nothing can stop them.

haha dude... I go to the university of pittsburgh. People get shot on campus all the time. I left the bar saturday night at 2 AM and went to mcdonalds and there was a drive-by a block down the street.

If we closed the school every time something like this happened we'd have class like 3 days a week. Now for granted, my university is in a city. But still. Like the other dude said, the police believed it was an isolated incident. ...how the fuck is anyone supposed to know that the dude from that incident would have a complete mental breakdown 2 hours later and go on a 33 person killing spree.

We don't freak out evertime somebody drives by and shoots up the campus coke dealer. Normally murder has a pretty good motive. Somebody doesn't normally go around killing people for the fuck of it.

#1 they didn't even have an ID on the suspect at the time, let alone even knew what fully happened. People were confused and weren't even sure what happened during the initial shooting at 7AM. College students are sleeping at 7 AM. They probably thought the pop they heard was their buddy next door falling out of his bed because he drank a fifth last night.

#2 by the time they got a full grasp on the situation this psycho fucked up a lot of shit at 9AM.

Oh and by the way the University of Pittsburgh really isn't that bad. I'm exaggerating, but campus is kinda close to the hood. Really an awesome school school though. Don't want to scare anyone away if you're considering it.

word. all this hatred to the shooter is wrong. we should hold ALL those that suffered from this tragedy in our prayers, including the shooter and his family. im hoping the killer is in a different place, regretting all he has done. and repenting. i dont wish for him to be in hell. i dont think i would want anyone to go to hell. i just hope people can use this terrible turn of events to better appreciate all they have, and adore every loved one they have even more. because a lot of us are luckier than we realize, and in a world like this, prized possessions and dear friends can disappear more quickly than we could ever imagine. events like this just make my stomach flip, but not in that good, inverted or corked out in the air way. in a nauseous way. i am very saddened by this news. RIP to the deceased.

This all just really sad, something like this tears us apart more then unites us. I hope all those who lost their lives find some sort of peace. I find it offensive that there is this much hate in a thread that should be meant to remembering those who died. Some of you guys should really just be ashamed of yourselves. Who cares if someone says your opinion is stupid in an internet forum? That's not the issue here.

no one else is throwing around obscenities. I don't think you're being respectful.

And yeah, considering he had killed two people, they should have assumed that he was capable of killing more people and locked down the campus until he was apprehended. That just seems like standard operating procedure to me.

assumed that? yeah cause every other killer in US history comes back 2 hours later to kill 30 more people. uh huh really follows the trends from history. NOT FUCKIN REALLY! YOU FUCKING DUMBASS, I"M SURE IF YOU WERE IN CHARGE IN WOULD OF NEVER HAPPEN RIGHT, YOU'RE MR FUCKING PERFECT. FUCK YOU AND STOP TRYING TO BLAME PEOPLE

Wow. Lets compare statistics, shall we?

USA-Everyone has the right to own a firearm.

USA-Many, many school shootings I have heard of, at least, what, one a year?(correct me if im wrong)

Canada-Strict gun laws.

Canada-Ive only heard of 4 school shootings EVER in canada (dawson college, shooting in MTL school of women, and one in BC.)

And we arent the ones who think Canadians live in igloos, eat constant poutine, live on a 22 hour clock, and have 2 months of total darkness. Many, not all, but many americans are TOTALLY oblivious to the world around them. Did you know that the US army groupted tonens of Muslim's together in Iraq. If they knew anything, they would know not all muslims are the same. Sheeites, just for one, have a different belief from the peasants. Face it, americans dont take the time to look at the big picture. They are more focused on themselves.

ever what, are you smarter than a 5th grader. ONe person absolutley disgusted me. The questrion was..

"Mexico borders the south of the US, what country borders the north of the US?"

THE FUCKING LADY DIDNT KNOW THE NAME OF THE COUNRTY! HOW SELF CENTRED, OBLIVIOUS, AND ARROGANT CAN YOU FUCKING BE? STUPID LADY DIDNT KNOW THE NAME OF THE COUNTRY THAT IS ABOVE HER, AND SHE WAS FROM MONTANA!

but yes, tragic event. Not to lay blame, but, it is Cho's fault, he is the one who pulled the trigger.........

No, everyone doesn't have the right to own a firearm in the US. Get your facts straight.

There was also a shooting in a Toronto school. There was also one in Calgary.

You're also wrong again. There hasn't been one a year. You're assuiming everything you just posted.

Everything you just wrote was so fucking stereotypical it's not even funny. Just because one person said they live in igloos and wasn't serious about it you don't have to try to somehow make a stereotype that you know damn well isn't true.

Grouped a ton of Muslim' in Iraq? What the hell are you talking about? You mean SHIITES, and uh peasants are just poorer people. There are plenty of poor shiites. Again, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

It's a god damn TV show. They're obviously going to pick the stupidest people they could find. I'm sure there's plenty of people in Canada that could easily be picked for that show.

Your ignorance of this country disgusts me. From what I have seen in your post you have no idea about American society, nor do you have any idea what's going on in Iraq. "They grouped Muslims together." What the fuck is that supposed to mean? The whole world groups Muslims together. Ever look at France or England? They are FAR more hostile to Muslims than the US is.

Seriously, this thread shouldn't be for arguing. Just stop making retarded posts about things you have no knowledge of.

Maybe he was Asian but maybe he was fucked up?! huH? People in genetral are fucked up by things other to do them as this asian guy as well FUCK HGIM HE'S DEAD and he killed innocent blood and deserves to burn in etrernal flames of fucked up shit called HeLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually through meeting many americans in my life, the majority of them don't know anything about Canada or the rest of the world for that matter. I would say out of 10 Americans maybe one would know the capital of Canada or the name of our Prime Minister.

You guys need to realize your ignorance and get stricter gun laws. How long will it take you to realize guns arent actually protecting you but causing more problems then they solve.

A few years ago England enforced much stricter gun laws thatn what were perviously in effect. Over the next 3 years after the increase in gun control, violent crimes increased 91% (nearly doubled..) coincidence? Just slapping on some stricter gun control laws isn't the answer.

Will some mod please ban this kid. This is really getting obnoxious, even for an online forum. We're trying to have a rational discussion about a tragedy that everyone is depressed about, and you're just using it as an excuse to flame people online. Grow up, this thread really shouldn't have hating.

As far as I understand, you never said that there was violence amongst students, thus it was external and out of the universities control. I don't think the two scenarios are comparable in the least. Not to mention that you said you were exaggerating. But its not my argument, take it up with the rest of the nation.

is it jsut me, or does anyone else thinks its disrespectful maybe, for the day after the shooting there are kids just being interviewed on oprah, and showing kids crying in the audience. i mean it just happened and the first thing we see is everyone on oprah, i mean i didnt actually see the shows jsut highlights of it, but it seems disrespectful to have them on the air the day after the tradgedy, maybe its just me

I hate how everyone is acting like this is some high school shooting. Most high schools are one building and can be locked down. This is a fucking 25,000 student college. There are HUNDREDS of buildings that are open to the public. Locking down buildings would just lock the shooter inside with people, or lock him outside with even more people.

i agree completely. it really bothered me that news reporters jumped on any student wearing a vt sweatshirt, especially the crying ones.

it also offends me that the day of the shooting, this thread turned into a huge argument about politics and laws and blaming other people for something that alllreadddyy happened and was not preventable.

yeah, it was said somewhere (maybe CNN) that he purchased the guns about 5 weeks before the shooting so it wouldnt have mattered if there had been stricter gun control laws; at least the current law thats being talked over about gun control wouldnt have had an impact
