Shogun or Prophet 100

Looking to buy either Shogun, Prophet or something similar. Basically looking for the best All terrain ski with decent float in the pow. Have heard good things about the shogun but what to know if theres anything better out there?

Cheers

Shogun if you want rockered tips (super minimal rocker)

The Prophet 100 is tried and true the sweetest "fat" all-mountain ripper out there so personally I would get those. And no problem with either floating in powder.

are you going to be skiing any park? if so check out the Line blend

if not prophets are just about my favorite ski of all time which i shall recommend to you

Shogun is easily the best ~100mm wide ski out right now.
The prophet was great and a huge game changer 4 years ago, and it is still a great ski, but it really can not compete with the shogun.
New Gots ski like shit.

haven't ridden the shoguns but have ridden the prophets and they are probably my favorite ski can carve extremely well on groomers, don't feel awkward in the air, take a lot to reach there top speed, they are a little wide for mogals but easily doable, don't have a rocker so probably not quite as good in pow but not bad, and skiing switch is super easy. so i would say all around a great ski. go with the prophets.

Quite the sweeping statements without any proof there. Can you back that up with anything other than a generalized sentence. You need to say a lot, especially consider the P100 is pretty much the best one-ski quiver to date if you aren't skiing lots of park.

IMO the shogun has all of the characteristics of the prophet 100, skis groomed well, stable at speed, floats well, but is better in these respects: the bamboo core makes it much more light and poppy, it also gives it better exit energy coming out of turns, the very small rocker and tip shape keep the tips from getting catchy on really deep days, where as the prophet 100's super broad, park sonowboard shaped tip can most def get catchy. They are both good skis, but I think the Shogun is one of the best all around pow skis, dare I say even better than my VCT's. Go shogun, u won't regret it.

I work at a ski shop,
I test out a good chunk of skis in the spring (given on demo bindings), most of them are on demo days, but ones that catch my eye, or make me think they need to be skied in other conditions I will get samples of, and ski them in a variety of conditions.
Out of all the 95-105mm skis the Shogun was my favorite.

I have an old pair of T Halls for park. So im not really looking for any ability in the park. Im looking for my everyday , everything ski that also dominates the pow.

So far it sounds like the shogun is in front.

^ don't rule out the 100's just yet. in my experience it is the best all mountain / pow ski out there. i was on 1st generation pair for about 3 weeks of all types of terrain & conditions out incolorado and they absolutely slayed. since then i've skied on 07 & 08's and they keep feeling the same way if not better!! a bit comparable to last year's blends (also 100mm waist) but they just make you feel alot more confident plowing through anything.

can't really say much about shoguns since i've never been on them but if they are said to be better than prophet 100's then i'm sure i'll demo a pair this season just to check em out.

Cheers for the advice guys. next question: Best shop near silverstar to buy skis from. Im from Aus and am heading over this summer. help would be much appreciated

i love the p100 but the blend is one of my favorite line skis .... jam into the front of your boots and it drives through anything snow or turn wise....no thoughts or experience w/ the shogun ...i am intrested to hear cobra commanders opinion on new line blend vs. shogun !!!

Am now also looking at Volkl Gotama as well as the K2 obsethed. can anyone give some info on them compared to the shogun? cheers

the New gotama doesn't ski groomed nearly as well because of its shape and the Obsethed is SUPER soft, any resembelance of hard snow and it chatters like crazy (i do weigh 200lbs tho and prefer stiffer skis)

I have Blends and I really like them. I was looking for about the same things in a ski as you.

The other skis I considered were the Liberty Hazmat and Moment Tahoe.

Shogun

Pros - normal camber underfoot, early rise tip-only makes for a great ski on the groomers but super fun in soft snow. Full Bamboo wood core keeps it stable and responsive.

Cons - because of the early rise tip, your effective edge contact is less than a traditional ski on the groomers. It's noticeable but not bad. Not as stable as the Prophet 100.

Kung Fujas

Pros - normal camber underfoot, early rise tip and tail makes for a more buttery, playful ski

Cons - super short effective edge for groomer ripping, but once you have it on edge it's fine. Narrower than the Shogun underfoot, so less flotation in the soft snow.

I've skied them both and will soon own a pair of Shoguns. But you could easily argue what I find to be a con of the Fujas might be a pro for you or someone else. Have you ruled out the Prophet 100? That's one of my favorite skis of all time.

Wasn't a huge fan of shogun- maybe it was just the conditions and length I was skiing the ski. Shogun will allow you to charge a little bit more than the prophet I would say (especially the longer length Shogun). In my opinion for an all around ski I would prefer the prophet 100.
