In a knot. A reef knot works well for joining them. On to your pants? Two half hitches, or maybe a round turn with 2 half hitches if you're sagging reeeeeal low.......

around the belt loops, the same as suspenders.

the key is, take some ceapo dollar store suspenders that are normal length, and extend them with laces. this way, they don't dig into you! AHA
