Shit's weak.

Why does each Freeskier related topic get deleted? I understand the differences between NS and Freeskier but why not be able to discuss other media outlets of this sport?

The Road Trip Challenge was a pretty freaking rad time, wish I could talk about it here...Think about changing it up a little before you delete this guys...

What is weak is when Freeskier blacklists Inspired Media, The Tabernak Pack and any of our producers for keeping their video in our system and trying to make money. I'm sure there was a solid chunk of time where The Weak was blacklisted for the very same reason.

That being said - we have absolutely no official policy towards deleting Freeskier stuff. We actually really try to help share their content, and are more than happy to do so.

I think what happens is a few mods get so frustrated with how they treat us, they get over zealous. I will ensure that this stops, because skiing shouldn't be about such petty squabble as a few posts for a competing media brand which ends up hurting athletes like you.

Please note though, looking through deleted threads I don't see anything that has been deleted. If you have a specific example, I'll see what I can do about restoring.

Because mods are brainwashing us to only think about Newschoolers when we want to post about skiing

This couldn't be further from the truth either. Newschoolers is a portal to all the best skiing on the internet. That is why we have remote embedded articles - we want people to find out about other rad stuff out there.

We are entirely dedicated as a company to showcasing the radness of others.

How can you claim "This is Skiing" and not share Phil or Henrik's teaser? Can we talk about how crazy that is?

BOTH OF THEM HAVE HAD COVERS!

Ian I really need an example of this, as most of the mods have told me none of them did it. Staff same deal. I need you to tell me where you saw it so I can act.

As well, I have ensured that all staff know not to touch RTC content, as if people want to talk about this we absolutely want them to be able to do so.

pretty solid call out right there by mr. compton. I hope this gets heated

Yeah.... except we aren't deleting anything. There's just no posts about RTC.

Damn I didn't know Tabarnak Pack was blacklisted, thats lame. Well I guess you guys make complete sense, wish both sites worked Nsync. Sorry to stir up the pot guys.

On a lighter note, please feel free to post about your experiences on the RTC. I think that both myself and many others would love to hear about it.

In an interesting twist of events...this just got posted/tweeted:http://freeskier.com/the-wire/harlaut-casabons-teasers-live-film-tour-info

I think it's just that the RTC episode 1 didn't feature what people were looking for in it. I'm sure it was a great time, and I'm sure future episodes will be much better...but the 1st episode just wasn't what the people particularly wanted.

Not to add fuel to the debate, but I sat and watched every thread discussion about RTC get deleted since March. Like EVERY thread. I was happy to see everyone hyped about a project I put a ton of work into, but not so rad to see every mention of it get flushed from the internet. I would understand if you guys were taking down Freeskier related news articles etc being posted, thats your competition, I get that. But threads in a forum?

THAT SAID, Mods have been a lot better about not deleting discussions about it since the first episode dropped. Thanks for letting things be.

Glad everyones enjoying RTC so far. Shits about to get a lot more interesting in the next few episodes.

Over and out.

There was a brief period where this happened. Yes, you are correct and I should have been more forthright about that.

Behind the scenes, we were trying to actually get them to embed articles about it, post videos, etc. and they were extremely unco-operative. Adding that to the fact that this blacklist of our producers was something we've been dealing with for a long time and some of our guys got angry and started deleting.

However, Freeskier called us very upset that we were doing this, and wanted to work something out. We simply stated that we wanted them to be more involved. Stop not letting us share your stuff, participate in our system as yourselves - not simply as faceless aliases - and we want very badly to promote what you guys are doing.

Even though we never managed to get the partnership we were looking for, we again put a nix on anyone deleting anything related to Freeskier. If a thread gets too dumb and it involves freeskier - just like any other topic - we will certainly delete it.

So yes, there was a momentary time when that happened, but it was very brief. This time though, we have not been doing any of that.

What I want is for all Skiers to work together. We're a small industry, and we need to stick together. Sadly, the competition between businesses I guess gets in the way of that from time to time.

Disagree with this, even though there wasn't much skiing it was still entertaining and included some rad skiers. Really hyped up about the next couple episodes!! gonna be cray, especially seeing the chart for points and the list of tricks on there.

Cant we all just be friends!!? haha

Fair enough Bishop. Sorry again for adding to an endless debate, and thanks for shedding light on the situation.

Ill end with a quote the dude who made this thread says a lot: "People need to take skiing a lot less seriously." I think that quote is more relevant than ever these days... :)

I can confirm - skiing is far, far, far too serious.

Tru, I made a thread back in march that was deleted after a few days, maybe just one day. It was reinstated very shortly after. I was annoyed when that happened cause I wanted to share my excitement, so I can imagine how it bothered those involved even more. Seems like everything is in order in terms of RTC at the moment. Next is freeskier needs to stop being babies.

This is just like when kids used to complain about Chug Life. If all you want is skiing, don't watch it. RTC is much more than skiing.

Just to be clear...I was just pointing out why I think there isn't much discussion about the series. I personally enjoyed the episode very much.

You honestly cant blame them... Does Walmart have Target advertisements on its website? Its essentially the same idea, competing companies. If one isn't willing to represent the other, then the other company obviously won't for nothing in return. Don't blame NS, blame capitalism.

Yeah but does Facebook block the sharing of the New York Times?

Do media companies not post videos from YouTube because they compete in video?

Does one massive blog not write an article about content hosted on another because they are competing?

The open nature of the internet has changed the game on what it means to compete, and people hosting their content in one place or another isn't a reason to block it.

I mean the Inspired players are completely newschoolers branding free. They simply use our video platform, and make money by doing so.

Yeah so I think we can pretty confidently say nothing has been deleted on this since no one in mod discussion seems to have any idea about anything of the sort... I looked through the last couple pages of deleted threads and there's nothing freeskier related there.

I think the problem was that we did delete a few things back in March. It was brief, and as mentioned the threads were restored.

They simply thought we were doing it again, because there hasn't been a ton of threads on it.

Yeah, basically /thread here.

We haven't deleted any RTC threads, as you can see a few posts up Mousseau posted the video and thread about episode 1. Why didn't freeskier or another orange name like you compton or edub make a thread about it yourselves? Wouldn't that solve the problem here?

The problem i have with this thread and threads like it (i.e stuff on the olympics, competing vs film, style vs tech etc) you really get to see the feelings that industry people have for each other. Like I am imagining Bishop and Henrik Lampert meet each other at some XGames party or something like it, they act like friends at the party but the minute they get back to the office they fucking hate each other. Or what how Steve Stepp really feels about Goepper.

Cant we all just be friends and keep this sport we love so much alive and well.

Sorry if this didnt make sense but.......what ever

Yeah no, that's not how it is at all my dude. People are generally pretty friendly in the ski industry and get along etc.

remind me again why the ski industry has to be like a day care? if people don't like each other that's not your concern

Its not daycare, I just care so fucking much about skiing i just want everyone to be happy and enjoy what they are doing. When everyday you dream of working in the industry and hopefully someday I will, It really bums me out to see someone like compton get a little annoyed with this site that has given him such a huge fan base, and support for what he does.

Its not day care its passion.

Why can't we just all have fun? Shit's gotta get heated about mods maybe possibly deleting a thread? Get mad about something worth getting mad about, not a site, that's meant for enjoyment and comradeship, deleting threads. I understand there was no reason to delete them, or maybe there was, but it's not enough to argue about.

Just my 2 cents

but thank you for making this thread because it reminded me that episode 1 was out.

I dug the first episode, kind of captures the vibe of the first one which is one of my all-time favorite ski related things ever. Can't wait to watch the rest, and to see some ski maneuvers.

Then why did you delete/block any content whatsoever? #shotsfired

The content we deleted was back on the site within 24 hours, and that was back in March. It was done because they were blacklisting amazing producers like Inspired, the Tabernak Pack and many others in addition to refusing to allow us to share deeply the RTC content. It got their attention, they called us, we responded by putting it back up.

Since then there has been zero censorship on our part. What you see in this thread is merely a mis-conception that we're deleting. There has naturally been no threads about RTC other than this.

Hell, us talking about it has generated more hype than the episode did organically.

Don't forget - we don't control newschoolers, whatever people are psyched about naturally gets to the top.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if Freeskier posts a video that is embedded on NS, aren't they essentially running ads for newschoolers? I do agree that all ski media should be shared freely and openly and we should all be friends, but if you're running a business you're not going to want to hand over revenue to your competition.

If they post a YouTube video with an ad, how is that different?

The company that invests in the infrastructure of video hosting gets the revenue from the ads associated. This is the way of the internet, no?
