So i was wondering if NSers could help me out..... What is the best shipping company to ship skis from Washington DC to Alberta? +K for any assistance!

just go to the post office, i sent some stuff to NS this morning, they are very nice and helpful at the post office, and american and canadian shipping works "seamlessly" according to the post lady. better then shipping to mexico i guess.

well youre going to need a big box first off. don't write anything on it right away because you will have to fill out a custom form anyway. so just find a big box put the skis in there and tape it all up nicely then take it to the post office and ask them what they think you should do.

Yeah its a messed up situation cuz I live in NZ, bought all my ski gear when you guys in the US had your end of season sales. Got that gear shipped to my mate in DC (cuz backcountry dont ship spk pros or k2 fujs outta US) (Mad mission but worth it cuz i got spks alone for like 70% cheaper than buying them in NZ.) My mate then shipped all my gear to NZ thru USPS, however the skis were too long for intl shipping, so hes held on to them for me... Now im going to banff for a season so hes sending them up to me.... they are still in the box so that shouldnt be too much of a problem, its just a bitch tryin to organise him from over here....

Check out www.dhl.com
You can get a quote right on their main site. Shipping from the United States to Canada is one day service, no other options. They are way cheaper than UPS and a lot faster to other countries. Domestic shipments on the other hand are terrible through DHL.
Point is, check out your options. Do you really want your skis to sit in customs?

Customs takes forever. Anything from the NS Store takes at least 2 weeks if you live in the US, and I don't think using DHL or another express company will help much.

Yeah i realise that its gonna take a bit of time to pass thru customs. My mate is sending them ova this weekend but i dont get into banff until the 10th of december so im not too worried about that... Iv done a bit of research since posting this thread and apparntly usPS is the most legit. Other shipping companies ripp you off with charging brokers fees, and all this other shit on top of GST... So im going with usPS and getting it shipped to a holding centre in Calgary... Such a logistical nightmare!

I work in the shipping industry and ship way more valuable items across borders than a pair of skis. With DHL it takes one day to ship from most parts of the US to Canada. If you have your paperwork taken care of in the beginning there are no hassles.
DHL specifically caters to global shipping, meaning shipping to anywhere other than the country you are shipping from. In fact as of January 2009 they are no longer serving domestic shipments.
Like I said, if you want your shit shipped quickly, check out DHL.
