I need advice to. At the end of the day, my shins hurt and they bruise sometimes.

It doesn't matter if you're black or white, just beat it! just beatit! just beat it!

heat them up with a heating pad when u go to sleep then try them the next day it helps a wee bit

well, my tip is just to rest it for a while, put on some padding and dont go to hard on the shins

You guys might have shin splints...when you land or are just skiing do you lean back at all? I used to have the same problem but i started landing leanin forward and since then i havent had em...Your boots might be too loose also..hope this helps

that was probably the best first post i have ever seen^ informative, offered an opinion, didnt flame anyone, didnt make yourself look like retard, props...

as for the subject, it could be that you are landing backseat like they said, but it could be that you are landing too far forward? thats how my shins have hurt in the past, just slamming against the front of my boot. probably try to land with your toes pulled up towards your shins and as flat as possible... dont really know if that will work.

yeah my shins get pretty beat up, i just got new boots which helps alot and i just take like a week off, drink lots off milk and take flax seed oil which helps with bones and is really good for ur body, this usually werks, also hit jumps with ur boots as tight as possible so that u dont move around at all, i also heard that a booster strap werks really well cause its elasticy and not a regualr solid strap, try these to get rid of shin bang, it usually werks but the best thing to do is rest up

i found that the days my shins hurt really bad were when I had my boots too tight. Try to loosen them a little if you've been riding with them pretty tight. Don't go really loose or anything just enough to relieve the pain.

Coming Soon...

yo dont want your boots too tight or too loose,

ice your shins a couple of times a day,

and strechs the muscles in front by kneeling and then leaning back on your feet

i used to have shin splints from freestyle mountain biking and when my bike broke i had to stop for awhile and they got better. i am in no way suggesting that you stop skiing though. just my experience

~never be bought. never be sold~

try custom footbeds if you can afford them -- i picked up some 'superfeet' last season and they made a big difference.

Don't land in the backseat.

Don't land in the flats.

Don't land on ice.

Get better fitting or softer boots.

Ice your shins.

Get out of the park for once.

Do injury preventive exercises.

And if they're really bad, take some time off.

just make sure your boots are nice and tight

and i dunno exactly how it hurts, if its more of a bruising or a scraping, but i had problems with my socks roling down and then the boot scraped my shin

is that a keg in your pants?? cuz id love to tap that!!

hey sir, you cant park your car there! oh wait, thats your son?!

thanks for all the help. i have been landing in the back seat but tahts only becasue it hurts to much to put pressure in the front of my boot. ill try tighten em and icen em.

what kind of boots do you have?

A combination of everything suggested would work best, but everyones specifics are different. If you dont know how tight your boots should be by now then you probably shouldnt be hitting jumps anyway. If you still lean back too much, then learn how to actually ski first then hit jumps. After you have done this, get some boosters, and some cheap footbeds, cuz anything is better than sking on the original bed. This should dramatically improve your skiing, your shins, and other foot and boot problems you might be having

yeah dude, someone told me to tighten my boots, and i did, i still get em if i land back seat hardcore, but i dont get them off of every little pussy hit like i used to, now i buckle my boots as far down as i can. try it if yours are loose, other than that, just land forward

Eat, Breathe, Ski

well i went skiiing today for almost the enitre day and i kept the boots tight and it seemed to help but the fuckers still hurt, mabey i should just take a few days off so they can heel. u no

mine usually hurt the next day.. not when im riding.. But i just suck it up! Skiing is way worth the pain! Sounds like you just need to rest your shins.. take a day or two off.

-Jason

once things get hurt rest sometimes is the only way to help it. Maybe avoid the park for a while or land switch more or take a break from skiing. Also the boot advice others have been giving is good. custom foot pads are great, they help you ski better, are more comfotbable and keep you warmer too.

if you go to your local hippie grocery store (i got mine in Ketchum, Idaho), you can get a spray bottle of this stuff called Arnica, it's this herbal stuff that kills pain topically. I got some serious boot bang on the first day of a ski trip to Sun Valley when I heinously backseated a cornice onto hardpack. I sparayed the stuff on like crazy at breakfast and lunch to kill the pain, and iced it with snow at night.

do your power strap as tight as you can over the liner, not the shell, you can twist the liner a bit to make it fit your shins better, try not to land backseat or put too much pressure on the front of your boot when your turning

suepr awesome cool!

your boots are too stiff. I just switched from really stiff boots to the rossi bandits. They flex a lot so they put a lot less of pressure on your shins upon impact.

I never get shin bang anymore.

softer boots are the key

buy some soft boots

No way around it unless of course your backseating everything like a bitch.

the key thing here is just dont b a pussy and go backseat on every landing

whats a booster? and do boot beds? or watever theyre called ( the soft part that you stand on) do you need special ones?

how does being a pussy and landing backseat have anything in common,

on top of the things said before defently ice them, take advill, walk around on your heels alot(to strengten the musscles around the shin) and if your going to land way backseat just go with in and go to your back so you dont blow ur shins out

ive had this too, i decked a step-down at killington on my 2nd attempt...i thought i had it all scoped out, but it was really deceiving and i came up 2 feet short and completely compressed

didnt hurt that day, but now everytime i put my foot in the boot, i cant even flex my shin is that painful...damn killington and their flat light (not an excuse)

im thinking about getting the Lange freeride boot with the gel tounge..looks decent, my salomon liners are all packed out

I had some problems with my shins last season. I think it originated from getting backseat skiing some powder in the trees, something I'm not used to. Then it kept recurring with pretty much any skiing and was pretty painful. It was more on the side of my legs than in front. I saw some doctors and I'm not sure they new exactly what it was but I got some samples of vioxx (perscription), he told me to stretch and ice em. the medicaqtion really helped the most and it cleared up in about a week and never came back.
