i am not able to ski

my mom will not let me get acupuncture

i take two ibuprofens before i ski, it does a little

ive tried eliminators, booster straps, foam. none of it does anything. foam and all that still makes me feel the pain

what should i do?

thanks

Pretty much all skiers get this. The only thing I can say is searchbar, theres soo many threads about shinbang. There is really nothing you can do though.

Yeah, the only thing I can think of is different boots. Whats with all the threads about shin bang bla bla bla..... I have never had it bad at all, I dont get it. Sucks if you do have it, dont get me wrong. I guss I should be glad I dont.

I used to get really bad shin bang, but that was for a couple reasons. My boots sucked, and I sucked at skiing. If you land backseat and don't clear jumps you're gonna get shin splints. The only thing that actually ever helped was taking a break from skiing. sucks i know. get better boots!

Do you do any other athletics besides skiing? You can really damage your shins by doing something like running in poor shoes and it may be really apparent in the forward lean of ski boots.

I used to get shin bang a whole lot with my old boots but as soon as i got new ones it stopped. May need bigger boots

ye booster straps help, but the best bet for the long run is to strengthen the shin muscle. stand with your back against the wall with your feet shoulder width apart and about 1 foot from the wall. with you weight on your heels, lift your toes and the balls of your feet up and down, i do about 100 reps and then take a break and do it again.
and searchbar too man, this has been asked many times, but i definitely feel your pain

yeah i think he means ones that fit your shin better like come up your leg a bit more maybe it made sense to me my boots fit my foot but there to short and i get mega shin bang i gotta get some new ones asap

what sort of boots do you have?

you could look into boots with a higher cuff giving you a little more support around your shin (or particularly the area affected)?

Build up your calves.

I used to get them all the time, ended up quitting skiing for 4-5 years and actually was a bodybuilder the entire time. Came back and it made a world of difference. I'm not saying go hardcore like i did, but search around for easiar things to do around the house. Solid calves make that core area much stronger, and less prone to shinsplints/shinbang. As well, it helps you fill out the boot a bit more.

basically u have bruised your shin bone, chil out for a couple of days an dont ski, either that or push through the pain!

what boots you using btw?

loosen your very top buckle and tighten the one below it to compensate, my right shin was killing me saturday as soon as i put on my boot i was like wtf, doing that helped out mass

it really comes down to your boots, you can shave your legs, get booster straps, get shintronics, stop landing back seat, and take T3's and still get shin bang because of pressure points in your boots.

The best thing to do is go to the highest end ski shop you know, find the manager and/or best bootfitter availible and try on as many boots as you can, specifically dalbello kryptons and IL moros, or Full tilt or SPKs.

custom foot beds are a life saver and if u have assess to a collage design lab etc vacume form a mould of ur shins then use impact adhesive or bike inner tube glue to stick scholl womens party feet gel pads to it, clean then with white spirit first to get silicon shit off so it sticks. this got rid of most shin bang for me (i ski in salomon 1080 foil's 2006 and on dry ski slope) alot of effort but was worth it.

shave your legs, that happened to me and i shaved em and it didnt hurt anymore. dont worry, your hair will grow back by the time you start wearing shorts again if you do wear shorts.

buy a pair of thick tube socks, cut off the actual foot part of them so you are left with just the tube part. slip this over your ski socks...you can even layer them if you want uber protection...i dunno i think it helped me a wee bit...try it.

Get booster straps and tighten those way down.  If you can comfortably fit shintronics/foam inbetween your boot tongue and your shin, then your boots aren't fit right.  Also if you do go the way of shintronics then just get an old wetsuit or some other source of neoprene and cut your own for way cheaper.  Footbeds will not do that much for shin bang, especially for the price.  Raise the spoiler on the back of your boots too, since I am tall with small feet I had to drill new holes to make the SPK one taller and it helps.  Also just land switch everytime and it doesn't put any pressure on your shins.  Never, ever undo the top buckle to 'soften it up'.  That is like sticking your hand in a fire because its cold.

haha yeah my goals not to seem gay that might be an option but my parents might think somethings wrong with me

i had the worst shin bangs last year bro, then i reliezed i should start getting socks with like shin protector things in them, which i did get for this season, and i havent had 1 single problem with my shins yet! so stoked that i dont get them anymore

hah after like 7 days of skiing in wistler for summer, my shins were swollen probably 1/8 an inch out from shin bang. hurt like a mofo. could barely walk in the morning. but it went away after a while. but i yet need to try these methods. so when it gets swollen STOP cuz it hurts badly

I run cc and we use this thing called the wheelie bar for shin splints... u can get it in any running store pretty much...also stretch alot... make sure you dont have stress fracture

hahaha someone had to say it. i didnt have a problem untill i landed back seat on a 7 this year, then its all back to ski for 2 hours untill i cant do it anymore. land switch instead.

my shins have gotten up to the point where i can just plain go skiing with my boot as buckled down as can go, and my shins will start hurting. They have been completely destroyed must be. I just bought new boots, hopefuly that works. But here is the ultimate solution for you if you can make it work. Get 2 things of foam. Put one to the right of your shinbone, and one to the left. Create a gap so that your shinbone fits inbetween but never touches the boot. This will put alot of pressure on the muscle on the sides and also on the inside, but its better than putting pressure on your shinbone.
