Shin pain so bad I can't ski

Hi guys,

I have an odd case of shin pain. I sorted my boots out, so they actually fit (as Ive had this before), and still no luck. I skied for 10 days straight with no problems. Because Ive had this before, I spent my whole holiday skiing pistes and any tricks I did, I landed them switch and I had zero shin pain the whole time. I wanted to test my shins before I went home, so on my second to last day I did two 360s. I landed sweet, not backseat, but as I landed, I felt the muscles up the front of my legs stretch hard. it wasnt the impact, it almost felt like them fighting to balance me and overstretching. This is exactly what happened to me last time, I left the park, and the next day my shins were so painful to the touch that I couldnt put my boots on and couldnt ski at all, end of holiday again. This isnt at all from gaps in my boots or them being too big, I made sure they were tightened correctly, I had shin shields on incase it was the impact that caused the pain last time but I still resulted in being fucked over.

I know there are a million threads on shinbang, but I was wondering if anyone had anything like this? I went to see a physio and she didnt have a fucking clue, so now they are gonna be scanned to see if its actually shin splints.

+K for any help as this is holding my skiing at a complete standstill.

This sounds weird, if your boots really fit as said.

Then just go for dub flat 9, dub cork 12, sw dub cork 10 etc. instead. No big deal :)

my guess is that you did land backseat... if not you probably have a mysteriously unique shin disease

you landed backseat. you may deny it but thats what happened. ive felt it before too, landing and then bang it feels like my shins are gonna snap in the boots but they dont. pain.

Fair points guys,

but Im saying two landings and Im out for weeks?

Is it just a case of slowly conditioning them so that the muscles stretch a little more each time?

start working your skinny twig legs out, roll your shins with a rolling pin, and youll be fine. the rolling pin works wonders but hurts like a bitch in the process. it has helped me go from un-skiable shin bang on monday, to skiing like im fresh on friday as long as i roll my shins.

you have to get the calcium build up out of the shins, thats what makes them feel so tender

are you serious?

I will work on my calfs but I have far from skiiny legs,

thanks for the advise guys, will let you know when I get the scan

get some bio freeze. it is basically like relaxes the muscles. it comes in a cream form and just rub it on your shin. should be able to ski within the next 2 days if you put it on every 3-4 hours or so.

im going ot say tendinitis??? my ddad has it right now and it sounds liek the same thing your going through.

the only thing i know about shins is shin splint, and that's all to do with arch support, but if you're not feeling any pain prior to all of this, then this probably isn't the problem. i suggest you hit up your doctors office.

Yeh Ive just been to a physio and she didnt know anything about it! Shes referred me to a specialist whos gonna scan them, so they can then see if its shin splints or not but its pissing me off. It the pain happens again, im considering rolling pins, hot irons and baboo to destroy them!

The rolling pin is used a lot in martial arts to prevent shin splints and to make blunt impact hurt less. After your shins heal you may want to try using the rolling pin. In the meantime make sure to do a lot of stretches, pointing your toes, flexing your foot (bringing your foot up to your knee) and make sure to stretch your calf a lot. Shin splints can be influenced by tight calf muscles. Also when you are popping off a jump make sure you pop off your toes, not your heels. This will help you land more evenly.

my advice is go see a docter. im surprised people still ask for medical advice knowing they will probably only get 12 yearolds saying "Pee in her butt" or

Find hobo

cut off his legs and your legs

switch them

????????

PROFIT

Just a side note since everything has been said. I don't know what everyone's exp is w these but it only helped my shin pain. Didnt eliminate it. But I've heard ppl say it solved all their problems.

do some pre game stretches that worked for me i mean i'm still new to the park but still the days that i stretch before i feel alot better i get that in my knee sometimes like i dont feel it when im skiing but after when i get home i'm hurtin, it's called like cold blood or something i dunno what its called but the solution was to stretch and do cool down so if your going hard in the park take a nice slow stroll down a easy trail and then do some stretches. Get better soon man!

Im guna say you did land a little awkward, or you have an odd shin syndrome which should be checked out by a medical professional. Or your boots were not on tight enough. Do some stretches or something.

fuck what happened to my shin? i havent skied for 6 days. i need advice ns.

You broke your shin dude!

If it dosent hurt to bad then it's probably the fibula insted of the tibia

That's at least what it looks like, broke my fibula last year, dosent hurt to bad, but you can't ski with it

Do toe lifts, it strengthens your shins. As in keep your heels on the ground and lift the rest of your foot. Do this til you shins get tired, it is easy to do when you are just sitting around

Thanks guys,

Im going to see my specialist this evening, so fingers crossed and Ill letyou know, Ive just got some full tilts in a sale aswell which may help me in the long run. Well they fit a hundred times better than my boots already
