Some one please help !!!

Ya, I always get shin bang if I land back on my skis. Try doing all switch landings, The ynever hurt your shins. For me, the worst is my switch 5's. I always land backseat and cant do more than a few each day or else I'm too sore. I also found that by carving into your 3's 7's etc, that you dont land so backseat as mush. Thats why I think switch 180's and 540's hurt me, cuz I can tcarve switch. Anyways, hope that helps,

Peace.

when i used to get shin bang it was a combination of backseet landings and boots that were too big and too stiff. my new boots are a little softer, fit super well and i don't seem to get it anymore. landing properly helps too. if i were you i'd go out and spend a little extra on boots that are fit properly to your feet. but if you land backseet there isn't really much you can do about it. it's just gonna happen.

i got shin bang really bad over spring break. it sucks, i couldnt lean foward at all. it was from falling on my 720s, i was landing in the backseat. shin bang blows.

it will go away after awhile, but if it hurts real bad and your skiing the next day, then ice them. that'll help.

i got shin bang after two days of hanging in the park all day. before that, i got it from running. you could ice your shins afterwords, and try stretch it out before you put your boots on. you have to strengthen the muscle in your shins. if i remember correctly, shin bang/splints, is when the tendon separates from the bone. when its really bad take a day off or two. soft boots that fit very well help also.

some people take their ski pole and rub it fairly hard up and down the shin. they say it breaks up the scar tissue and helps alot. i've seen people use foam in their boots too. i've never tried either, but it might be worth a shot.

my shins used to hurt like hell so I bought these shin pads at a ski shop, theyre these little foams pads that you put in your boot and they shape to your leg after a while, my shins never bother me anymore, you should try them out

go to a fabric store and buy some foam, then cut out some rectangles and cut a slit down the middle of it, and stick that in your boots.

fuckers!

Oh ya, Icing them helps sooo much, I couldnt believe it! So do that for sure.

what I did was rip apart a life jacket and took the foam out.... it works pretty well as long as you tape it around your legs or else it just slides up and you will find it in your snowpants at the end of the day with a sore shin...

This is what my doctor told me to do, and it has helped sooooooooo much.. so you should do it too. hehe..

1. Stretch your calf (sp?) before and after skiing.

2. After skiing, put ice on your leg for 10 minutes.

3. Take 2 advil with every meal.. this will help keep the inflamation down.

4. Go get physio... it's like magic.

5. Undo the second buckle from the top (actually, sweetcoz told me to do this and it somehow helped).

6. Make sure that your arches aren't screwed up, because it will put strain on your shins (the muscle rips away from the bone)... if your shins hurt after going running or standing up for 4 or 5 hours straight, then you might have messed up feet and you need to see the doctor so he/she can get you some orthodics.

7. Get superfeet insoles.

Hopefully that helps! Good luck.

Matt

your shins...as dumb as it sounds...sound like they're out of shape...LOTS of running and 3 way calf raises will fix that. it sounds like the muscle on your shin isn't quite what it should be for what you're doing (and you're landing back seat...also you can try getting small forward lifts for your boots to force you a bit forward...1 cm of foam under the heel'd probably do wonders.

The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs.

Shin bang comes with learning...mine have been pretty f#$ked up all season. I am sure you have read everything about them and know what is going on (tearing of the anterior tibalias from the shin bone ~if you feel the pain to the lateral side of your shin ~ if you feel the pain deeper and on the medial side, the mechanism for injury is different so treatment varies a bit) ~ I am a med student so I am not blowing shit out my ass.

First you need to rest, which is good season is over. Keeping them iced is also key (3-4x per day for 20mins) Advil is great, but any thing under 600-800 miligrams does nothing except hide the pain so take 3 with food 3 times a day for 7-10 days (this actually reduces the swelling on the shin plate) There are exercise to strengthen your anterior leg muscles, and keep that calf stretched. Unfortunately it is a routine of just stopping the inflamation and it takes time, rest, ice, and a variety of exercise.

Temporary ski relief...buy a dish sponge at the store, cut it in half and place on either side of you shin bone and tape it in place...then put ski boot on. Dont put the sponge to low or it will hurt in your boot.

You'll be fine by June if you are done skiing, just get that leg strengthen during the summer

sorry for the long reply...I just see patients like this all the time and there is a lot of BS out there about them

well, one day i was on the lift with a ski patrole and he told me to shave the hair on my shins so it dosent hurt as much. has anyone else tried this? does it wrk? i dont wanna shave my legs for nothin

Moe.

Remember, pimps dont pay taxes.

I think thats just what people tell you so they can laugh when you show up with shaved legs.

Coppermtn: I'm not a med student or anything, but my doctor said 10 minutes of ice, and 2 advil with every meal.... maybe it should be 15 minutes and 2.5 advil. heh..

Matt

ChrisMuldoon had the best answer i've tried everything you can think of and rolling something up and down your shins works the best. Take lik eyour pole and roll it down your shins. It hurts like fuck but after like a week of doing it daily your shins will be invincible.

I am a Ski Pimp, thats all that needs to be said.

OK so i rup the pole up an down my shin. Should I take advil while i do this? How many days do i have to do this? Is it a good idea to do it now or 2 weeks before i go to camp? Should i still stretch while i role the pole?

thanks

stick sponges in there. usually my shin bang wears off after a few days though.

Ok, when I think of shins I think of the bone in the front of my lower leg but... when I have bailed on a few landings lately, my calf muscle was hurting for two weeks! Is this shin bang?

if you have it what harvey says will work..but i just try not to land back seat..i think keeping your hands up will help with that

I have a problem with the ligaments above my ankles, like on the sides of my shins, sort of.... anyway, i jacked it up skiing in my old boots from like the last 6 seasons, in which the shells are pretty much completely broken down. This was in late December. I guess I just havent given it time to rest up cause ive been skiing 4+ days a week since then. Does anybody have any ides on how to minimize the pain other than not skiing? That would suck. Maybe taping it or something? I need softer boots, i know, im in salomons with a stiffness of 9 now and that dosent help. But I have to buy me a pair of Seth Pistols before i can get around to buying boots. Any suggestions?
