get arch supports in your shoes and in your boots. it sounds wierd but it helps alot. If you have no arch support it pulls out your shin muscles and nerves and stuff.

The FDA is bad.

I thought about doing that shinguard thing before. Interesting to know that it worked for someone.

Dude, Booster Straps have REALLY helped me. A big part of it though is taking it easy until your shins can heal some.

cut up a mousepad (one of the soft ones) and fit it on the cuff of your boot, or just do what i do and never land forward, just do 180s, 540s, and 9s.

I love to ski so much.

yeah i have really bad shin bang as well and lemme tell ya there is nothing really you can do i mean i really wanna ride but my shins just cant take it

get some booster straps they help a ton but make sure you get the 3 ply ones instead of the 2 ply cause they help more

everyone who says 'just don't land backseat' has no fucking clue. yes, you can get shin bang from landing backseat, but there are many other causes, such as simply skiing hard for several days straight

ice massage.

fill up a couple dixie cups with water.

freeze them.

peel back the paper part way.

massage your shins in a circular motion.

I do this every day after I ski now.

helps alot.

I take lots of advil. Usually 2 before I start skiing, 2 at lunch and 2 later. Probably not good for the liver...but it gets rid of my shin bang!

i get bad boot bang. i got this like pain killing gel stuff with all kindsa natural shit in it. called like... arni somehting. works pretty well

i agree...hard ollies and butters. but even when i'm not screwing around with those, i still get it really bad on my left shin after skiing hard all day. it's weird that its only on the left. i don't land unevenly or anything.

^ I just had that this past week. I skied for 10 out of 14 days and in the second week my left shin started giving me problems. I think the problem was that I didn't have my left boot tight enough, but it's weird, I think my legs are different widths or something because I can't tighten my left boot as tight as my right.

I'd say go with the lift inserts, I'm going to try that because I have inserts anyways since I have almost no arch in my feet. And stretching also makes a big deal. You might feel stupid getting up to the park and doing aerobics, but it's really really worth it.

buckle your boots tight as fuck. at night take off your boots and ice your shins for a half hour. then get new cold ice and put it on for another half hour. and dont wrap it up in a towel. icebag straight on the leg.

lieutenant dan... you've got legs.

the kid who said take advil is right. I take two aleve the night before and two the morning before and i never get shinbang. It can be purchased at almost any over the counter drugstore as naproxen sodium 220mg, you get like 400 pills for $11.00. Like dirt cheap

i had the same problem and i made a post asking about how to get rid of it and this one guy said to make the top buckle and stap tight and then leave the second one down loose so the boot flexes more freely. i tried this and it worked! but if this doesnt work then you should take a pair of scissors and cut out the plastic v at the bottom of the boot and make it bigger cutting a litter from each side it softens the boot but the most important thing is to make your boots tighter than you think you should!!

has anyone tried using neoprene (wetsuit material) as an insert ? I have an old 4/3 wetsuit and I might cut into it and give it a try. i'll post the results if i do.

shaving your legs works wonders. i did it and i have absolutely zero problems. getting boots that fit, strapping them up tight, and landing properly are also important keys to success.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.

i dont really get shin bang, but the outsides of my calfs are always really tender after a day of park riding (lots of butters and ollies). shaving your legs works really good to get red of the tenderness and soreness that is sometimes mistaken as shin bang (caused by your socks rubbing out the hairs on your legs). advil does wonders to help numb the pain associated with shin bang, but it wont do anything to prevent it. also, a soft boot, or a boot in walk mode really helps if you fuck up and land backseat (allows your legs to flex backwards farther. it takes a while to get used to skiing like that, but it is perfectly safe, and you can still ski fine once you adjust to it. but really, the only cure is to take it easy (no skiing) for a week or two.
