is there anything you guys have found out to help shin bang from doing butters or whatever? my boots are a little big could that be it? lemme know, thanks

you need your boots to be sized right so your feet and shins can move around too much in them. Go by your local shop and see if they have a custom boot fitter that can put some foam in your boot and try to fill some of that space. A more snug fit should help a bit.

yea thats what i was thinking too, my boots are like 2 years old so they definately packed out a lot. thanks for actaully replying with something that doesnt say 'dont be a pussy'

My shins are busted from the last 3 days of skiing. I had to skip today because I couldn't handle it. I figured I just had to build up a tolerence to it. Mabye my 10 year old rental boots are pretty crappy after all.

dont put long ski socks that pack on your shin..

put some short socks (tennis socks) so you dont have nothing on you shin. it was my problem..

there are two reasons for this from what i have heard: one is that you have not enough muscle on yr shins and the bone gets bruised, the other is that you have injured the muscle by it tearning away a little from teh bone like a shin splint. both are a result of having to much space in yr boot from what i know.

do the ace bandage thing is my advice...oh yeah and 'don't be a pussy'

tightening the boots, and wearing a heavier weight sock help me. the sock is like the ace bandages, if it's heavy enough.

shaving your legs is supposed to reduce shin bagns... It's logical but yeam you know how gay that might look.

tight bootsis a good idea and you can always unattach them on the lift to make them more confortable during a long day of skiing

you can actually flex your leg bones by landing backseat. Once they hurt, it's really tough to heal while skiing hard, but eating advil can get you on the hill when you need to and icing after helps a ton.

check out the thread in the ski equipment forum about boosterstrap, that may help you

Make sure you're getting into warm boots. Keep them warm overnight, and then on the way to hill just shove them under the dash and turn on the foot heater/blower.

Cold stiff boots are uncomfy and don't flex too kindly.

Out of all the things said above, custom liners are probably the best option. But if you don't have the cash, go with heavy weight ski socks, and a snug (but not too tight) settings on your boot.

Also - shinbang is often the result of how you ski. Make sure you're staying on the toungue of the boot. Don't ride backseat (even slightly) because if you do your calves will only to smash into the front of the boot when you land. Pay attention to how you ride.

1. Stay forward in your boots. Doesnt matter how t-hall rides (low and in the center of your feet), you are supposed to be in a forward position.

2. If you dont have enough cash to get full custom liners for your boots, get custom footbeds. They are amazing.

3. Don't be a pussy. I butter all the time on my PEs and have been skiing for over a decade and have never had shin bang.

4. If you are, in fact, a pussy and came come to terms with this fact, buy soft boots. They are amazingly comfortable, and while they dont allow the same aggressive skiing as real boots, they will reduce shin bang. If you ski mostly park, this may be the best option for you.

yea i went to the shop they said my boots packed out to about 2 sizes to big...got some bonzai boards and a heel lift and i was good to go. and pussyfooter you stupid mother fucker when you butter are you not on your tails? isnt that the same as landing backseat on your tails? but yea thanks spinks i figured they were just a little sloppy or whatever

Muscle.

Get down the gym and build up those legs.

In the short term ease off back seat landings and butters or take lots of drugs.

The best thing to do is get a softer pair of boots for park riding. You could also reduce the flex on your existing boots by fitting Booster straps(see equipment forums). You can start to develop cracks in your shin bones which gradually form and just keep on getting worse. They also take ages to heal so its worth sorting something out now to stop them getting worse. Try all the suggestions until you find something that works.

it was orginally from running for lacrosse and i just wrecked them last season after all the running. any exercising or anything anyone knows to help?

If its from running then you've probably got some form of shin splints. Its worth seeing a physio about cos they can get quite serious.
