Super random destination, I know, but I'm going there randomly for a friend's family reunion in a couple of weeks and I have no idea about the place.

It's located on Lake Michigan, so I'm pretty fired up, and we have some awesome accommodations.

Has anyone been to this random place? Anyone live there? What's there to do? Is Lake Michigan pretty rad in general? Any tips for my travels would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

its a nice place. have family that live a few hours away from Sheboygan, and every-time i have been to Sheboygan its been fun, take advantage of your nice accommodations and the lake, like someone else said, the best part of wisconsin is on the shores of lake michigan .( except for waupacca and the chain of lakes.) but ya man, you will have fun, especially if you can take advantage of the lake and do some boating , fishing, site seeing lake tour etc. have fun mang.

Sheboygan had some of the nicer beaches in wi. I recommend bringing a bike if you can, there are sone good XC trails in the area. If you're into fishing you can do that as well. Go to the lighthouse, I think it's free. There's a place called Gameboard (I Think it's still open) where you cc can sit down and okay board games. There are Indian mounds in the area too, those are cool to see, along with a railroad museum.

I had a bike race up there for years, and it's north of milwaukee, (go to the natural history & art museums there!!) so I've been a few times.

Sweet, thanks guys! Not sure if either of you are of age but I heard the bar scene there is pretty cool and it's actually a big drinking town, which is always fun.

Youre lucky, the only good part of wisconsin is lake michigan. The rest fucking sucks

Lake Michgan is useless for water fun (except for fishing, or boating) unless you own a wetsuit. The water is FREEZING, like seriously cold. I live about 15 from the beach, go to the beach plenty, but you can't have any fun in the water without a wetsuit. Actually so cold it hurts.

About 15mins from Sheboygan is Kohler-Andrae state park. It's a really cool beach with a bunch of sand dunes you can jump off of and do flips.

All I do during the summer is fish, and michigan is an amazing smallmouth and musky fishery. Thats why I said that

I can get a ton of walleye in the bay area on lake superior. Duluth/superior area.

Whats your point?

I can catch more and bigger walleye on mille lacs

Oh for sure, superior is awesome

but only the mn part

You see. You're wrong there. The Superior, WI Beach is nice.

Just don't venture into superior because you might get shot. That's only in the north end which is the part of superior that most people see. Everywhere else is generally niceish.

Duluth on the other hand I would be more scared to be walking around most parts of duluth especially West/downtown area.

I was just joking around, saying MN is better than WI.....

But i've never felt unsafe in duluth an doubt I would in superior......

Im pretty high so im just saying random stuff. If any of it doesn't make sense.

It's mostly at night that i feel unsafe in some parts.

A friend of mine that attended UMD lived in one of the most crime infested areas of Duluth for a year. I had no idea at the time of course and would wander the neighborhoods drunk as fuck trying to see what I could find. Hearing about some shooting on the news a year or so later was a wake up call to hear it happened less than a block away from where I took my drunk strolls. Live and you learn I guess.

There are some sketchy ass places in Duluth, inevitable with the city's history, but for the most part it's an awesome place to be. Superior...not so much. As mentioned, the beach is cool, but that's about it.

(Born in WI, lived in MN for most of my life.)

Yeah now supposedly there's just a ton of natives that are just like stealing and beating the shit out of random people at night. That could have been a while back though.

You definitely wouldn't catch me in downtown Duluth at night.

I don't worry about being downtown Duluth at night, but once you get a little north of downtown and start heading up the hills, then you start heading into the shit. Granted, I haven't been to Duluth for 4 years or so now, but I'm guessing it's pretty much the same still.

I used to walk through these neighborhoods all the time when I was in college, I have friends who live there. It's not really as bad as people make it out to be. If you don't bother anyone there, they won't bother you, at least if you are a guy. I'd have second thoughts walking around alone at night down there if i was a woman. In my experience, you're more likely to get into a fight with douchey college bros than a random sketchy dude.

Looking to head out on a fishing charter out of Sheboygan while I'm there...Probably a long shot, but if anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated.

Agreed. I swam in Lake Superior regularly when I lived in Duluth. Here are three maps illustrating how much more of a pussy you are than me:

I'm pretty sure there's still ice out on lake superior right now. Like you can still see it from the shore. I just haven't looked in a couple weeks. But that's pretty crazy because it's usually melted by beginning of may/end of april.

There was when I was there a couple weeks ago. Oh, that reminds me, those dark areas in the southeast part of the lake are not 80 degree water, it's FUCKING ICE.

Yeah i don't think i will be swimming on lake superior for a while since it's still super fucking cold. Even if it's 100 out it's going to be like 40< water.
