My freind just got a sharp player and the dude in the shop told us that we could record mp3s strait from a computer wit the optical line in wire thingy but we couldn't get it to work. You guys have any idea how it should be done?

Which is better sony or sharp cos i'm thinking about getting me one of those?

you need a pc link to get stuff of the computer, the optical line is for recording of off dvd players and some cd players, check their manuals to see if they have it, i recommend sony over sharp

we were told that we wouldn't need any special pc links, just put the wire in the pc's speaker line out and play the winamp... and I don't think tehy even make those pc links anymore...?

max-it should work, play the songs in winamp while the minidisc player is in record mode, thats what I do and it works everytime. Make sure that the optical cord is plugged intot he 'line in' port on your minidisc. Also make sure there is light coming thru the optical cord when a song is playing, otherwise something is fucked up with your comp or the optical port isnt enabled. Basically how it works is if the minidisc player is in record mode it records any sound that is fed into it, whether its from an optical cord from your dvd or computer or cd player or even an analog cord from your vcr out.

As for the sharp minidisc players, mines really pissing me off. Granted its maybe 4-5yrs old but it skips or turns off whenever it gets minorly jolted, every jump landing, sometimes even when do a small set up 180 to go switch, its supposed to have 10 seconds of skip protection. I want a new one, listening to music while jibbing is so much fun.

yeah u can put it in a speaker port...it doesn't sound too good...w/ the sonys u goto like sound options in control panel and select MD PORT something and not ure soudn card

I'm gonna kick your ass...From here to right over there!

Two things that you should never cheap out on.

1) Toilet paper

2) Electronics

Buy a sony MD player and some Purex 2 ply that way you won't have trouble with your MD or chaffing

yah Man.. you can record off your computer.. and sony is way better than sharp because it uses a different format so you can fit 100 songs onto a minidsc with a sony or 20 songs with a sharp.

you can do that with sharp minidiscs too...they have extended long play toooo....and they sony sucks for recording off the computer cause it is analog unless you buy the 500 dollar minidisc which has a digital PC link

I bought mine for $250 and it has the digital PC link. At visions in calgary I think that future shop sells them for the same price
