Shanghai Six over rated?

um, maybe travis redd's high 5 segment was close to crichton's forward segment in terms of urban. he did alot of gnar rails. but he didn't tech them out like dc did. but hey, it was super, super sick, so i'll go with it.

but his shanghai six segment? i thought he had the most 'bleh' segment out of anyone in terms of skiing to his ability. he did tricks and rails that alot of my friends could do equally well (minus the 8 kinker, that was different). i wasnt blown away by any means, whereas i totally was in forward and high 5.
 
I'm just turned away by high def films. The quality of footage on 16mm and 35mm just give a movie that extra touch of professionalism. I dont care as much about the skiing in a movie if the shots are nice and crisp and well thought out.
 
I think that it is one of the best movies made to date. It flows extremely well and the skiing is amazing, not to mention the camera work. Berman and the rest of Level 1 did such a good job putting this movie together in my opinion and they had a variety of creative and new ideas. I'm far too lazy to read this whole thread so I have no idea what everyone is saying, but anyway, I'm just finnishing putting together poniverus's movie this year, and I just have to say it is wayyyyy harder to put a full ski film together than you would expect... Anyway, this isn't about me gusta, I would say that SH6 is amazing and owns just about every other ski movie made to date. But thats just me...
 
well, i know what your talking about and i kinda had the same reaction the first time i saw it, but after watching it a few times, it undoughtably the best this year
 
its a really good movie, still classic berman with the dripping icicles, and people walking up the stairs next the rail there about to slide, chessy music and gay shit like "hey lets get an epic shot of you guys all jumping off this jump at the same time..... in your ski boots!" and the roof jib in eldos and corey seggies was pretty stupid.
 
i agree about dc have one of if not the sickest segments ever (or one of my favorites anyways. As for films i would say sh6 one of of the sickest movies ive ever seen. watching war i was like WHOA aobut 10 times. but in sh6 i was like WHOOAA about 60 times. It was pure madness the bs shit was that "insane" but i though vanular and rainvills segments were amazing. As were everyone elses. not one segment wasnt good in sh6
 
its definitely a good movie, and some parts are great, but some things did bother me.. the intro isnt the kind of thing you watch more than twice..berman has always had super great intros and this was a letdown cuz theres no damn skiing in it! also some of the music is baaad like the blue skies song. and steele's song is okay..but its just NOT the kind of song you use for the last segment in a movie. and as someone said there are soo many shots of the same shit in everyone's segments. TBC is probably my favorite movie ever except for maybe clay pigeons.. its just got that great ostness feel to it and its so much different than normal movies. and the smallest jump in the entire movie is twice as big as the biggest jump in shanghai ( as is to be expected with ostness..). and then of course there's the fact that berman shoots glorified digi while ostness springs for super 16 and 35mm
 
the best part about the whole shanghai six was helicopter by bloc party.....i was planning on using it but i wouldnt wanna rip of berman like matchstick did....like for fucks sake they used ghostwriter after berman clearly used it in the high 5 teaser...they have no original ideas apart from angles....but...i still enjoy watching thier movies.
 
it was great artistic, good skiing nice vibe it all came together. I missed Simon Dumont and Emil Coty and Dylan Hood but it was still sick
 
I love it. Ive watched it probably ten times now and every time i see it, it gets better. I especially love how it washed out the bad taste i still had in my mouth after high five. Im sorry, forward was probably one of my favorite movies of all time and now i love shanghai six almost as much, but i just did not care for high five at all. The soundtrack killed it for me.

^how many times have u seen it??? It really grows on u. The first time i watched it i probably woulda agreed cuz it was just kinda another ski movie. but then, after seeing it 2 or 3 more times i was like wow! this is like forward and ski movie 3 caliber.
 
there just had to be one person to mock the best movie this season...i was waiting for someone and u take the cake
 
i didnt really mock it. i just expected a little more. after all the talk, it was really good, but not life changing. the soundtrack wasnt very good and there were WAY too many shots of the same set ups.

i think if one guy KILLS a jump or a rail, they shouldnt show any one else on it.
 
I got TBC first, so that kind of killed the BC action in S6. I like the urban shit, and Vanular's seg. would have been possibly one of my top 5 ever, if the song didn't suck so much ass. I didn't like the Hi-def feel either. The only really cool shit about it was the time-lapses and special effects during the lifestyle parts. Otherwise I was pretty underwhelmed by the whole thing. I was def. looking for more after I saw the trailer too. But yea, the BC is just pussy in S6.
 
Awsome movie all around. The whole Tanner R., Loic, and colby west segment was awsome.

Just that fucking blue skyyyyyyyy movie fucking kills what would have been great skiing by Symms. Thank god for mute.
 
i hope shangahi is good cause i ordered it along with the teddy bear crisis and for schristmas i probably get booter crunk and the hit list yoohoo!
 
look at some of the shots, look at some a the tricks and think about them for a second, like cokers blindside 360 switch up on the rail to rail gap for example. REALLY GOOD MOVIE
