Shanghai Six over rated?

The filming was great... but I just don't think it lived up to all the hype.

The sking was obviously more progressive, but it just didn't flow like FORWARD. Too many shots of the same set ups yeah?

I hate to be the asshole to say it... but I dont think we've caught up to the snowboarding films just yet...

That is definately wrong. Shanghai Six is better then all the other ski movies this year in every single way. It has the best flow, best music, best editing, best skiing and is the most progressive movie this year. If you didn't like it that much it must have been because you have only seen it once or maybe twice. I bet you 10000000$ that you honestly can't mean the same after you have seen it five times.

snap... you got me on that.

i've only seen it a couple times, and could change my mind about it..

I wont change my mind about the music however.

The Bloc Party song got things going... then they mellowed out again. I got nothing against vareity, but i always felt that the music should match the sking's intensity. I got no problem to mellow techno while Polard is sking pow fakie...

but who wants to see a monster step up with out a little rock and roll??

it was ok. WAY to many of the same shots! The music was ok, but there were some really shitty songs in it.

ehhh id have to say in order of enjoyment to watch...

1. TBC

2. Whiteshine

3. Shanghai 6

4. War

watch the angles, the artistic shots and camera work - so sick. I agree there were a couple of songs that drove me nuts, but overall it was phenomenal. The Rainville/Coulier/West segment was putridly good though :)

i liked it alot.

that being said, i agree 100% with the thread maker. forward is too epic, and has yet to be topped.

it was ok, ive never been much a fan of bermans movies...although this was better than some of the others. music was mediocre at best, and there were way too many spots in pretty much everyones part.

although, the keystone part in the bonus is amazing. colby west and alex balsen absolutely kill it.

and please stop calling segments seggies. call it a part if you feel like writing less.

errrrrr, it was beaten two years ago, by DC, in forward.

but yes, it is a somewhat close second.

I gotta agree... DC in Forward may not be the most mind blowing shit in terms of tech, or even steeze... but its got to be my fav level 1 part.

Pep and Jon in 1242 probably have it beat over all though...

tech? watch it again, my friend. one of the most tech parts to date. switch unnatural on street rails, pretzels out? switch butters onto dfds? 50-50s? every rotation and grab known to man?

yeah i'm going on and on about forward. but nothing has touched it yet. so until it gets dethroned, i'll swear by it.

yea the euro seg is sweet, i like the music and shots in it. I agree, the first time I watched it i was like......what.....that was it? But now that ive watched it like 5 times its sooo sickkkk. I personally like High Fives vibe better but shanghai is just as good in a new and cool way.

^that shot where it zooms out of the parking lot rail, then zooms to the crap bar then zooms t othe gondola is awsome, and the shot where they're in the train taking a pic and the background ti moving really fast

tbc was all slowmo, that was kind of annoying. Is shanghai in regular speed? also when is the next volume vm coming out? I want to see vanulars 630 on 450 off at orage masters

Not over rated at all. In my opinion Skiing is the best, editing is the best, entertainment overall is the best, quality is easily the best, but the music is so shitty. DOnt let that detract from the movie though.

i liked the movie but some things got to me, the music for one, some of it was good, but god damn tori amos remix and craig cokers song?????? sheesh!

I agree with Lanks, Forward is yet to be beat in many ways, in my opinion still the most proggressive out there ski movie ever, but SH6 is still sick

I enjoyed foward but the bc shots were just not prgoressive at all, and as I alredy mentonned beofre, Dave segment had a lotof rails and some cool tech tricks in it but I didnt like his rail style.

Cgrichton is definatly a crazy urban ripper but Travis Red segments in both High Five and Shangai 6 were betterthen Chirchton in Foward in my book. Travis mix up crazy spins both ways in bc with crazy urban jibingin both of these segemnt when Cdaave ahd urban and some cool stuff on a park jump. I know he was injured that year and that he would have been able tomake something twice as better if he didnt hurt himself ( bc shoot andmoreurban). So, my pointis that Dave part in foward was lacking 2 things, better style on urbans and more bc action.

my friend is burning it for me ... he got it for free ... and the kid he got it from got it for free ... just thought u should know

the coolest thing was i was watching shanghai on the airplane yesterday, and the harvard ski coach was watching it next to me and he was blown away by colby west's jump after he does the zero spin.... and this is a guy who spends his life in the gates.
