We've got our crack team of computer tech guys on it, and if all goes as planned in the next few weeks everyone that purchases either Shanghai Six or the Six Pack through the Level 1 site will be able to download a Quicktime HD or WMV HD file directly to their desktop.

Don't get too excited about the potential of sharing it with your friends and using bit torrent or limewire to completely undermine sales, 'cause you won't be able to do it. Files will be encrypted for exclusive use on the machine they are downloaded direct to.

We're just hooking it up so anyone who orders up the vid on DVD (standard def at this point) also has the opportunity to check out Shanghai Six the way it was meant to be...

Glad to hear it. Sounds like it will be a bandwidth monster tho. DRM isn't all its cracked up to be either, but yea, 99% of people wont be able to copy it ;)

Sadly, HD DVD technology probably won't be available to the public en masse until early next year, and even then, it will probably be another year or two until its affordable enough to justify. Then... watch out!

that is really cool of you to do that. I am sure plenty of people can bypass the DRM, but I would like to think that everyone in the newschoolers community is above that. I would be very disappointed to see it up on a p2p.

so you can only get the HD version if you buy it from the site? you cant include some sort of password inside the case for if you buy it at a shop?

 
Shipping late next week... we hope.

Sorry, the only way we can set it up for download is with unique passwords (order #s).

In order for shop purchased copies to have unique #s inserted, we would have had to create, print, and insert passwords into tens of thousands of DVDs... maybe next year!

 
I thought it was in HDV. and if I'm not mistaken, HDV is different than tru HD, isn't it?
