Shane, You Will be Missed.

He is the reason I am the skier I am today... I'm even getting a little emotional and sick to my stomach.. He lives on in the 'toons... Shred In Peace Shane, you will be missed.

Mad props to Shane. He died living on the edge and enjoying life to the fullest. Going balls out so all of us could be apart of and watch amazing skiing as he took skiing to the next level. RIP bro, you will be missed. It makes me sad to hear this news. LOL, I remember the video that was on the K2 website he and another K2 skier were giving Seth Morrison an award of somesort. He was just so funny the whole interview. Like someone else said, I also hope they name the pontoon after him, in his memory and give some of the proceeds to his family. again, RIP.

Damn.He was the one of the only people i viewed as truly invincible. Just goes to show you how fragile life truly is. If Shane has taught us anything, its to be ourselves and enjoy every single day of your life

after i posted in this thread last, i got all my gear on, clicked in, and went skiing. Went in my backyard (have a hill the size of a decent-length lift) got a foot here in pc yesterday, and just the whole way down i was thinking of shane....each of those turns are dedicated to shane...... got kinda emotional on the way back up.....

rest in peace shane. You're parts in the early msp ski movies is what got me into all this in the first place. Thanks for everything you've done for the sport. I'm sure we'll all give some thought to you next time we're on the slopes.

Was so hoping the call we got was somehow wrong. Met Shane once up in CB, We were just chillin and talking and I told him It was so cool to be standing next to a ski icon.... He just laughed and was so super humble about it.... What an incredible influence Shane was on skiing, and action sports in general. He lived life to the max, more intense than most people will ever know. He was like a real modern day Superman.... leaping ,flying, and blowing everyone's minds year after year.

no freakin way. that is truly some sad news. that guy was really a legend.
Atleast he died doing what he loves. RIP shane you will truly be missed by the skiing community.

Rest in peace Shane. You made a huge impact on this sport, and will be dearly missed by the entire skiing community.

wow, to say I am shocked and saddened is an incredible understatement. McConkey was one of my biggest influences as a skier and growing up watching him in ski movies definitely shaped me as a skier today. From the saucer-boy and naked cliff jumping shots in the old MSP movies to his most-recent segment in Claim, the man was such an awesome personality and a great skier that really got me into freeskiing so many years ago. His hilarious quotes were constantly repeated between me and my friends and the infamous "McConkey turn" is something that I always seem to do every pow day. Although I only met him once in the KT22 lift line on an icy day, I will say I felt as if I knew the guy and to see him go makes me feel super depressed. The things he did for the sport are innumerable and we as a community would not be the same without him. He is truly a legend in the best sense and he will continue to live on in the hearts, minds, skis, and skiing of so many people. Tomorrow, I am going to Squaw to remember him and will fo sho, no matter how icy, take my bents, a ski that wouldn't have been made without this man, down KT and shred it up in his honor. Such a sad day for skiing. RIP Shane, you will be missed, but will always be loved. Peace.

i cant believe it. youre truly a burke mountain legond, one of the best to come out of vermont. youwill be missed terribly as one of the originators of freeskiers. ski in peace mcconkey, you will never be forgotten

You will be missed shane, next time i go skiing, like said before, every turn will be dedicated to you. You inspired me to go out and ski and have the most fun everytime i ski

damn first stegger now shane.
the ski industry is losing a lot of sick shredders this year
sucks. RIP

RIP. You were a true legend, You accomplished more in your short life then most people ever hope to accomplish. I am still in utter shock.

something about mcconkey is going to be watched by this guy right now. by far the funniest skier ever and the biggest legend. RIP

One of the most skills, hilarious, ridiculous and inspirational skiers there ever were. I looked up to him a lot and he was a true badass.

RIP Shane

I'm just getting over the shock right now. I didn't believe it on the home page. I checked the date to see if it was April 1st and if someone made a really tasteless joke... This is just indescribable. I had a tear in my eyes and my whole body feels kinda dead right now. This is the first death of someone I've never met that is actually affecting me. Through his MSP segments (I've only seen them since Focused, but I've seen every one since then), I feel as if I know him. I will miss them so much. Everything he did was so happy, positive, and STOKED. This has left me rattled...
Rest in Peace. I truly mean it.
Vibes to everyone, especially his family.

Rest in peace Mr. McConkey... Rest in peace.

I never thought something like this would really affect me but it has. I understand the passion he had for skiing and all I can think is at least he left this world doing what he loves. Hope you are enjoying that big powder field in the sky Shane.

Vibes to your family; you were a god among men. For the mere two decades I have been on this earth you have provided me with more inspiration and excitement than any singe person. Thank you.

Woah.

Ten minutes ago my friends and I were watching McConkey's segment in Claim. We were just hanging out drinking beers and eating burgers at a local bar while Shane ripped lines on the TV. I told my girlfriend he was gnarly. I'm surprised. This is the biggest death in skiing since the inception of the salomon 1080. Shane was incredible.

The mountains will be quiet without you, you are the reason why many of us got stoked on skiing and continue to progress not only who we are as skiers but who we are as people. Without you my big mountain arsenal would be incomplete without your legendary McConkey turn. You never fully appreciate how large an influence someone has had on your life until they are gone.
And for this I thank you....

I will be shredding in your memory tomorrow.
RIP Shane

So so sad... Always put together the most entertaining segments that always put a smile on my face. Prayers go out to family and friends...
RIP
