SFO Crash

He's my full interpretation of the crash and causes

Pilot error. Misjudgment of altitude based on the lack of an ILS (NOTAM-Ed unserviceable), PAPI (NOTAM-Ed OTS UFN), the lack of use of radar altimeter by the PNF, lack of reference to the radar altimeter by PF, lack of adherence to published speeds (Vref, Vapp).

Synopsis: the PF did not use all available resources on approach to runway 28L. The PF put the airplane in a state of instability too low and slow to continue the approach. By the time the PF realized his mistakes, he was too far behind the power curve and too low to the ground to make the proper adjustments. The aircraft struck the seawall tail first, impacting the ground with such a force as to sever all hear struts. The aircraft was unable to maintain directional control, and spun 360 degrees before coming to rest on the left side of runway 28L.

and here's a few links, the first link containing the ATC recording is the best

Like I said in the other thread, Asiana has one of the highest pilot turnover rates of all airlines in the world. It's due to the cockpit culture that is very crude and authoritarian which isn't exactly the best environment for an aircraft cockpit. the VAST majority of aircraft incidents are due to inexperience and operating error, NOT mechanical failure. Those types of failures should be encountered during pre-flight preparations and if neglected would cause a problem in flight. Remember, that is operating error by neglecting such a thing. There is no doubt in my mind that this crash was due to pilot error.

I beg to differ

if only more people had opted to take the direct, 10 hour train ride from Seoul to San Francisco...

Hmmm, given the amount of dumb love for expensive, go-nowhere trains, this type of sentiment wouldn't surprise me.

Let's see... over 700 million airline passengers per year in the US... First 2 deaths from a commercial accident since 2009... I'd say that's about as safe as it gets.

Let's say you wanted to get from new york to LA on July 21st. I chose that date because because some legs of tomorrows trips were sold out.

Train: 2 days 19 hours 35 minutes. $428.

Flight: 6 hours 10 minutes. $304.90.

Even If the US got some high speed trains, no way we'll ever see anywhere close to that time or price for that same trip. Trains don't and won't fucking work across america. Boston to new york, great. New york to DC, great. East to west across real distances, Nope.

So let's build some ridiculousness fucking infrastructure that will still be inferior. Fuck yeah. Go trains in the US.

it's got to be sketch as hell to fly in or out of SFO now with the burnt out fusalage sitting just off the runway.

It was clear and a million, who the hell cares about the ILS, RALT, or PAPI?!?!? It takes one person looking out the window using airspeed and altitude to land an airplane in such awesome weather. You don't even need the engines to make that happen if you have the altitude to do it.

I honestly can't figure out how they crashed that thing with 2 perfectly good engines and 2 people with nothing to do but crosscheck the airspeed and the runway. Sullenberger landed an Airbus in the fucking Hudson engine out for crying out loud, and these guys couldn't do a normal landing in VFR weather with 2 people staring at the runway for 3 minutes?

Yeah that is quite pathetic. I didnt listen to the ATC feed but Im sure it would have been a visual approach, it wouldnt have mattered in the slightest if the ILS was out.

Meanwhile, a small plane crashed this weekend in Soldotna, Alaska killing ten people, including five children...

A friend of mine lives about a half mile from SFO, and heard the crash from his place... note: the area is already extremely loud, and yet he still heard the crash - all without an explosion.

Out of every comic to rip off you choose Jerry?

I have a gift for you! Don't worry, the one bullet in the package may seem a bit odd considering I'm giving you an awesome present in the form of a handgun, but I think you'll be smart enough to figure it out... or at least the ski community hopes so.
