Sewing inside of pant leg material

As skiers we sometimes tend to buy snowboard pants with no protection on the inside of the legs right by where the ankle is. I want to sew some material on the inside of the leg to prevent my pants from getting chewed up from my skis. What is the best material to use?

Kevlar fabric if you have a sharp needle? Find some heavy denim or something?
