Seven artistic bullshit?

what's everyones take on this? I think its a sick idea to get new art on the skis, but I think rossignol is trying to give themselves way more credit than that. they are treating good graphics as if its some revolutionary break through in skiing. Seems like a poor excuse as an advancement. Companies like line, k2, and a ton of independent companies (moment, surface, etc.) are actually being innovative while rossignol considers their graphics to be ground breaking. Anyone else feel like this is a ridiculous claim? I'll end with a direct quote from the site:

"This project called the Seven Artistic Sins is putting the ski world in a new era."

every major ski company claim they are pushing it further tehn everyone else. And tehy've all been doing it for so long.

After getting a pair of rossis for every day skiing (park and some all mountain) I am definately buying their skis again. So sick of these buttery skis that can't hold up for shit on the mountain. Count me in for a pair next year. Rossignol is legit and making awesome skis.

Agreed, but for real, fuck graphics, your skis are going to have snow on them for the most part anyway. The only skis I wouldn't buy because of the graphics are the Steeze's, but they have the Raven anyway with an all black scheme. The graphics on their 7 sins skis are pretty sweet though. Every company has good graphics and not so good ones. I like the Line ones mostly, especially the ones Pollard does.

i think its a sick idea... face it, skiing is at least50% how you look, and everyone triesso hard to look better then the next guy.. so why not up the ante with ski graphics. however i think some of the graphics the artists did would look better on wallpaper...

Wow.

I am especially in love with S7 & S4. But they all look dope.

On the otherhand though, most of the the 09 Volkl graphics look so dope.

Have high expectations for the rest of the 09 line. In a couple weeks, all will be revealed.

yea i mean the graffics are sweet but the shape of the skis and the way they are built has been the same for the past 3 years

I can see where youre coming from, but you have to understand that from a marketing point of view this is genius. Bringing money into the sport has always been a rather large challenge due to the relatively small size of our sport. While i understand that a lot of people dont want to see our sport sell out, financial growth will only help the sport progress in the long run. Therefore its really good when any company can bring in money from an outside industry, thats why we have companies like paul mitchell, mountain dew and jeep sponsoring major events. This is really cool because it spreads the image of skiing into the art world, which is one of the most money loaded industries ever. Not only that it will bring in attention from skateboarders, snowboarders, and the people that follow those sports as well.

Once you have money, you can pump it into R&D and release revolutionary things such as rockered skis and new binding designs and other things.

So you know what? Maybe youre right, maybe artistic graphics cant revolutionize the sport. But with a strong enough marketing campaign that will spread this across industries, and therefore connect skiing to people with real money and real connections, maybe these graphics could play a part in helping plant the seeds of revolution, in the form of cold, hard cash in the hands of our small industry

its a good idea, bring in some new idea with people outside of skiing. but always gotta put a skis function before fashion

I never really liked the old rossi graphics they were just really plain and boring and I dont like these new ones much either

I think it may feel like an artistic revolution to those creating them because most are accustomed to designing skateboards, and now they are working on a new canvas: skis. So while flashy ski graphics may seem new to steve caballero, they're obviously the same thing artists in the ski industry have been doing for years.

WOW

this is the dumbest thing ever. All of those graphics look like shit, besides MAYBE the one with the stylized girl on them.

fuck rossignol. They screw over their contest winners over and over again, raping them in the ass several different ways and then they pull this, thinking it's better? It's not. How about hiring people with talent to design your fucking graphics? holy shit.

they are NOT revolutionizing anything, nothing about any of those graphics is even remotely new.

yea i'm gonna have to agree, sure a few of the graphics look "cool", but none of them are by any means "revolutionizing"... i look at this year's LINE lineup and see more creative work than what rossi has come up with for next season, it was a good attempt but sorry, no dice this time rossi.

Rossi has always had a real problem with creativity and artistic expression. Come on, they had a contest to make their next years graphic because they couldnt think of any good ones. And now that they've actually hired people to try and make cool designs for them... uhg.

And by no means am I in any way putting down the winners of the create-it's, those designs were very very sick... too bad they didnt go on more skis.

Memo to Rossignol: No. Just... no, guys. Edgar Degas was an artist. Rene Magritte was an artist. Steve Caballero is a skateboarder.

Really not particularly impressed by... well, ANY of those. Some are okay, but none are really standouts.

it's not revolutionary, but i do have to agree with the point that some are making about skiing becoming more aware/more focused on "the look". though i admit i've fallen to it just as much as the next guy or girl, i don't think rossi's fair to act like they found out the world is round. if colors didn't matter than no one would freak out over antifreeze green or the like. i think the designs are just a way to make yourself induvidualized(i think i just killed that word, but it's past 3, forgive me) from your buddy, but as we all know, it just conforms more and more people.

i'm unimpressed with the rossi graphics, but if i was a die hard rossi fan, i dont know if that would deter me from buying their product.

c'mon guysssss, it's what's on the inside that matters! but seriously, rossi- get off your high horse. you're unique, just like everybody else.

Does Candide not ride for them, or did they not include him in the "riders" tab cuz he's hurt? They mention his name in the s6 description tho.

gee.. i wonder if rossi is just gonna steal their artwork too and not give them anything... kinda like the create it contest that screwed many on this site.. lame rossi.. lame..

yea. kinda on the corn balls side. i like how they refer to skiing under board culture. but they do make amazing skis. the scratch line is sick. i love those skiis.

back in 2001 when the scratch's first came out........the chick nipping out was waaaaaaaaaaay more revolutionary than the straight red and white lines on the Bandit XXX's.

Well, first of all, there was the trip... the dates changed without notice, the LOCATION changed on short notice, and in the end there was nothing organized for the contest winners. (might have gotten some of that wrong, but regardless rossi screwed that trip thing up)

Second, i know that some money hasn't been given to contest winners that was promised,

Third, when you submit to a contest like that you are basically signing over your art for them... they own it, you can no longer use it anywhere, they can use it everywhere for next to no price. really, graphics like that are worth more than what they gave. It's a blatant rape of the graphic design profession (no insult meant to the contest entrants or winners, some good stff came out of the contest)

and lastly, they aren't even producing creatit 2 skis.

Rossi might make some decent skis, but that's about all that they do right.

as any of the kids who won the "create it" ski contest last year. it took forever for them to get paid and only after numerous emails and calls and threats did they cut a check. they also lied about the WSI ceremony which never happened. those kids paid their own way to get there and ended up coming home with nothing.

for a company that was bought for 339 million, you would think they could have hooked up the kids who put their artwork into something that they would profit from.

lame

Haha yeah, wtf? You can't hold a "create it " contest, ditch the winner, then pay dudes who have nothing to do with our sport mad $$$ to make some skis?? Weak!!

Plus, all of those graphics suck. So Rossi, you just wasted a ton of money you could have spent researching and designing better skis that ski better instead of "bring in new era of shitty graphics" to the sport. You certainly didn't make your product any better, and now you're out the cash. Good move for sure.

Graphics are ghey, just put duct tape on the top of your skis...

Rossi skis are still sick, way better than the soft shit out there, but fuck graphics.

I'd still rather ride Rossi over some P.O.S. that can't carve a rippin' turn or plow through crud.....but thats a PNW'er speaking...
