Hey, I am trying to set up a lan network for my two computers so that I can play computer games (hhaha) beetween me and friends when they come over and we are bored or beetween me and my brother or something. What we did was we only have one cable so we just used ti to connect the computers through the ethernet cards or whatever (temporary loss of internet but I dont care) and then we went to control panel and got the network going... but it says it cant find any networks...but we made one. i think Ill just start from scartch so tell me how, I know there are some guys that know their shit here.

what kind of network wire is it, cause if your just connecting one comp to the other with a cable you need a crossover cable. If you dont have that you need regular cat5e cable (network cable) and a hub. Then just set up the network with IP's and what not and you should be good to go.

ok well, i'm just gonna assume that you have the right cable. Now right click on my network places goto properties then right click on Local Area Connection. Then select properties on Internet Protocol TCP/IP and goto use the following IP Address. THen type in a different IP for each computer 2 that would work are 198.198.198.198 or 198.198.198.199 etc. and you should be set.
