Seths vs ARV's

Its down to 179 seths(06-07) or 175 arv's(06-07), i am 5 11, 150lbs and am looking for a jay peak/stowe ski. Is the seth to much ski? I was comparing them today and the seth seems so much more stable not only flex wise but torsionally as well, the arv seems really soapy. All feedback is aprciated, would the seth be a good skior is the arv a more suitable choice.

Seths are a little wide for out east even though they are such dank skis. When conditions firm or bump up they won't be all as much fun. Not to mention the ARVs will be better in the park when the snow is shitty.

are you sure you arnt mixing that one up man? the seth seems to have more stability and would preform MUCH better on groomers and light pow than the arv, i could be wrong, but the arv seems like its really built for deep pow hucking because the tips hold all the massive flex, as for size, the seth is really not much bigger at all, just a tad bigger waist thats it. Correct me if im wrong, ive never owned either ski before.

I think the Seths would be a little better for the ice coast. They are stiffer and have a pretty damn good edge hold. The ARV would be better if you were doing a lot of park, but the Seth would be a better all around ski. Plus for your ski a 179 is probably a little better than a 175.

if your gunna charge go seth for sure. if you are planning on goin into park once in a while, go arv

ARV for sure. The ARV is a much better all around ski compared to the seth. The seth will be better in pow and at speed, but the ARV will do both of those pretty well as well as do everything else including the park really well.

How man? the ARV seemed to have very buttery tips compared to the seth that seemed alot more sound... I have skinny park skis, and am really just looking for a solid east coast jay/stowe glade-all around ski for the days that im not on the groomers/park on my twigs.

I would say seths. They have better edge hold for the east, and if you are a good park skier they will be great in the park, although I have not ridden the ARV very much

i own the 179 seths and consider them much to soft and short. im 5'11 and 155ish. they seemed alot stiffer in the store than they are, and yes, they are stiffer than the ARV, but its not a huge margin. i just dont like how they flop and stuff. chew up some crud, i also need the 189 too, stiffer and longer.

i also skied the 185 ARV, which you need to consider more than the 175. the 175 should be out of the question for you. the 185 in my perspective was very soft, yet did respectfully in the crud and shit. definitly softer though, very soft, but i dunno. i just wasnt impressed with the seth, and the ARV was so-so as an all mountian ski. i wanted something stiffer, but the length did an ok job at balancing things out.

id actualy try demoing a different ski, theres tons of em out there.

The ARV is meant to do EVERYTHING and the seth is more designed for powder which is probably what you'll be doing with these skis since you already have park skis.

AK- What other skis do you suggest? How did the seth fair outside of deep pow? i really dont wanna go to big since im on the east and do alot of tight glade skiing.

Ah, on the east then eh...? The Seth holds its own outside of deep powder. ehhm, it gets to soft and floppy when the shit hits the fan on the mank and just crappy moguled out snow. its fine, goes over things decently, does so much better in soft snow, hard snow...its a bitch. i dunno, i wish it was stiffer, and longer, but since your on the East, i dunno what to say. holds an edge just fine, basically its a good ski. nothing spectacular, definitly not bad. just a good ski.

i bought it without demoing it, based on reviews from people, and from what i heard, it charged and chewed up things blah blah blah, "its a true big mountain ripper" but it wasnt. it does chew things up, handles great in soft snow, but it dosnt charge the way it should.

i have only been on the ARV briefly, but i enjoyed the 195 more than the 179 pistol. but really, you would enjoy the Seth, its a good ski. both are very well proven and all, just for my type of skiing, its a little off. turns very well actually, so tree skiing i imagine would be ideal for them. big tip, nice sidecut.

the ARV seems to just soak up lots of things. people talk about it being so soft, and it is, but its hard to notice most of the time. especially in a longer length, it seems to work things out nicely.

more thinsg to look into.

-karma

-bridge?

-MSP

-188 or 178 Jp/Julien

-atomic Pimp(very good, and promising for next year too)

theres others, but those are some off the top of my head

I would get the seth becasue it is A) pretty stiff and B) it handels most all terrrain pretty well especially the bigmountain. The arv's are a little more pow/botter ski
