Seths, Thugs, or Bacons?

pollards all the way. the reverse camber will make it bomob in pow and the dimensions are like a symmetrical ski 153/127/150 perfect for making the backcountry and bowls your own playground, plus ive heard theyre okay on groomers. but i dont know how reliable that source is

they would be used mostly on powder days, some backcountry, not too many switch landings but reverse camber would be nice if they can ski on groomers a bit too

go with the seths that have the mini rocker, I know people the ride on Seths and they love them on pow days but they can go anywhere. Also where are you skiing.

Guys, it is completely helpful to somebody asking a question like this, to provide EXPERIENCES of said product or at least a reliable friend's input. Telling them, "This one would be cool." Doesn't really help much, especially if we don't know where he lives, how he skis, and how big he is.

amen

Where do you ski? If the ski is for pure pow, get something that you wouldn't ride all mountain. If its for pow, but also regular days, get an all mountain fatty.

I own both seths (05 189s) and Thugs (08 192s). No experience on the bacons though. If you are using these for pretty much pure powder days I would throw the Seths out of the equation right away. They are fabulous all mountain skis, but that isn't what you are looking for.

I love my Thugs. I can almost ski them as an everyday ski. The turning radius is just a little too long. A 181 would be a little shorter, but not too much. But they are wicked skis. The tips pretty much never dive, and although they aren't that stiff overall, they are fairly stiff underfoot and they can rip. Even in the chop/recycled pow. They love going really really fast.

I would imagine the Bacons, being much more turny, would be a better all around ski as you'd be able to turn them quick on the groomers, but again, if this is an almost pure powder ski, that may not be a consideration. It might come down to what type of flex you prefer. The Bacons are a lot softer than the Thugs, and would be more playful. They also won't ski big lines as well as the tails will definitely want to hook up.

I'd also look into the Rossi Steeze's if I were you. I got out on them this past weekend and they are a hell of a good ski. Stiffer compared to the Thugs, a much better all around ski (defintely could get away with it everyday) and despite a generous amount of sidecut, they can still rip bigger lines cause of the flex. Personally, they are a touch too short for a pure pow ski for me, but my buddy absolutely loves them, never been on a better ski in his opinion.

Hopefully this helped.

I love my Bacons, and since I haven't had any pow yet I've ridden them on groomers :( They still rip like a motherfucker. I would recommend against Seths, but not because they aren't an awesome ski. Seths are a do it ALL ski, like pow, park, groomers, everything. So they are good at everything, while not epic at anything. I haven't ridden thugs but they are a tad stiffer than Bacons so they will charge harder but not be as buttery/fun.

Here's a l ist of skis you could potentially buy

BC jib:

Bacon, EP Pro

BC charging:

Steeze (or Raven), Thugs, Gotamas (very stiff)

other pow skis:

JP vs. Juliens, more of a traditional ski, very light, not a lot of sidecut

4FRNT VCT, haven't seen them in person but almost got a pair

Moment Ruby, look fuckin ill and I know a kid who likes his.

I like my Bacons a lot and haven't even skied them in pow so that's a plus. I have Jesters on my Bacons if it makes any difference, pretty light ski.

Just thinking...if you got JP vs juliers and mounted them with Jesters they would be soooo fuckin light.

Hope that helps, if you describe more about the type of pow you wanna rip that would help..ie. Booters, cliffs, jibbing, charging steep open lines.... etc. etc.

In regards to the JP vs. Juliens, I used to have a pair of 188s, and while I liked them, the Thugs are kinda similar (light for their size, very little sidecut, and medium-soft flex, thought the Thugs are definitely stiffer) and do everything better. When I first rode them, I thought, this is what the JPs should have been. Unless you're going to be touring on them, I'd pick Thugs over JPs every day of the week.

i love my bacons, they are fun to ride everywhere. even on groomers and the park. def a  soooftt ski. if i could have one ski i think it'd be the bacons.

Are you a strong skier? What length skis do you prefer? If you like to jib in the pow alot, taking it a wee bit slower, you could get away with the lizzies w/ your weight. Anyone have anything about Icelantics?, some of their skis come in smaller lengths, yet still are very wide.

i like my ninthward rory silvas, they are no wheres near as soft as i was expecting tho, just another option for you

i'm pretty interested in the thugs, but the only thing is the smallest size is 181 and i dont know if that will be too much for all 177 of me.

Just mount a little forward of the classic mount (or even on the classic mount, its fairly far forward) and you should be fine. I'm about the same height (although I've got 40 pounds or so on you) and I mounted behind the classic line on my 192s. Chances are you'll gain a little weight over the next year and beyond and grow into the skis, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I just rode my bacons on the first real powder day this year. They are way fun. They can float so easily but they're still quick in the trees. On groomers they perform like a skinnier ski, and make good turns.

seriously dont get bacons unless your going like cat skiing. i didnt read any of this thread so maybe you are.

get seths

enough of you n00bs posting pointless stuff saying the skis that have cool graphics

i own a pair of 181 thugs

and so far, they are my favorite ski, soft, fat, floating, amazing for charging and what not

it took me 2 days to get used to skiing on them on ice and groomers. ice is still difficult, but groomers are good

ive only had seven days on them, and i absolutly love them

Bacons on the other hand, are quite different

they are abit more stiffer compared to the thugs

and are ski kindof the same, a better turning radius,

i only got 2 runs on them

but i was happy for them

for mounting these skis, i reccomend a classic for the thugs, thats what im at.

The bacons were mounted at center and both of them performed will landing and skiing switch

I havent skied thugs, but my dad owns last years pair and he enjoys them, he has them at 189, and rips through steeps and powder

It's your own choice

Im happy i bought my thugs instead of the bacons

Merry Christmas
