Seriously? I mean seriously? Good lord...

thats legit. i also live in PA, theres a KKK sight like 20 minutes from my house that is an old, abandoned (of course), creepy house with the hanging shit still attached to the trees...plus all the other weird shit you'd expect to see from former KKK property.

i almost shit my pants when i went there at night with some friends.

i guarantee that a hell of a lot more slaves were killed than people in hitlers genocides.

but this isnt about which ones worse. they are both awful.

Ummmmm the axis powers in WWII killed over like 30 million people, slaves on the other hand were an economic commodity. It was a stupid idea to kill a slave, they were your work force.
There were about 4 million slaves in america at its peak, making it mathematically impossible for more slaves to have been killed than how many people Hitler help killed.

you have to figure in how many died on the way over. but yeah my math may have been off on that one haha.

regardless, as i said, this isnt about which was worse.

Yeah, I was going to post facepalm bear but figured that Ben's Political Corectness Liberal meter had caused his brain to overload so he had a slight fuck up.

i dnt see whats the problem is commemorating people who died for their country but why not call it civil war month to get back people off their asses. Whats next a white history month? We pretty much celebrate that the other 11 months of the year

Fair is fair. We should declare a caucasian history month. Other races think we owe them everything, we don't owe them shit honestly. Now i'm no racist, but i have been in some instances where black people have been prejudice against me, and really? I thought we were over this.
If one race gets a history month, All of them should get a history month. Clear as day

Everyone keeps denouncing VA for declaring April as Confederate History Month because they feel its wrong to celebrate or honor Confederates for supporting slavery. Now I didn't read the governors entire 7 paragraph proclamation but from the CNN article from the OP it does not sound like VA is celebrating or honoring confederates at all. They merely want to bring awareness to this time period so more people can learn about history.
From the CNN article:"It is important for all Virginians to reflect upon our Commonwealth's shared history, to understand the sacrifices of the Confederate leaders, soldiers and citizens during the period of the Civil War, and to recognize how our history has led to our present," Gov. Robert McDonnell's seven-paragraph proclamation reads in part.
"This defining chapter in Virginia's history should not be forgotten, but instead should be studied, understood and remembered by all Virginians," the governor's proclamation reads.

The underlined words clearly show that the governors intention is to bring awareness and to teach people the history of the confederacy, a major historical time period in the states history.
Why is everyone assuming they are celebrating and honoring the confederacy or confederate ideas?

uhhh. what about the sacrifices of the half million slaves in VA?

the slaves that the confederates were fighting to keep. again, im all for learning about the confederacy. but giving them a month in memorial?

i mean, you just can't wrap your head around the fact that the south has their own unique culture.

so then celebrate southern culture. not the confederacy. but at this point we are talking in circles

wow, im going to try and jump in on this one, but that sounds like a horrible idea.. what the confederacy did went against the constitution, why would we possibly want to honor or even try to remember this? it is kind of like making a national meth month.. who the fuck would even think of such a thing....?
