Seperated shoulder

So i was hitting the box, and was hiking up and decided to go switch on, and i made it to the end of the box, then slipped out and hit my hip on the corner, making a fat ass bruise. So i was really concentrating on that, then on the way back down the hill, i went to plant my pole and push, and my shoulder popped real loud, and it just shot pain through my body. Now I woke up this morning, and my shoulder was so sore, but i kept tryin to move it, because i have baseball all next week, and it's my throwing arm. If I keep moving it, will it help the soreness go away, and keep it from becoming stiff? Like i think i didn't seriosusly hurt much, but it is pretty sore

you probably subluxed it... it's possible you dislocated it and somehow managed to pop it back in without blinding pain and making it worse, but thats doubtful... i had a posterior shoulder dislocation last year... it's a bitch and there's not shit you can do for it besides deal with the pain, or get the surgery.

If it were still dislocated it would be so painful you couldnt really do anything else..let alone sleep. Unless you've disco'd it like 20times before. I've seperated each one a couple times and discod the right one. Anyways i had a minor seperation like 2 weeks ago and it took like 6 days to feel normal, and like 10 to act normal.

K i had problems with my shoulder and went through surgery and everything and here are some things to keep in mind.

Sublexed and dislocation are the exact same except one who dislocates a shoulder, by definition, requires help 'reducing' (popping it back it) it.

Also just because it popped out doesn't mean you necessarily need surgery. In my case i needed it because actual pieces of bone chipped off, as well as rotator cuff tears caused it to come out during anything (including sleeping).

I would definatly think twice about doing hardcore skiing, baseball. It could be fine and just sore for a while, but definatly keep an eye one it.

um...what else...yeah so anywho, i would weigh the options about telling parents and not doing so cause you don't want them to over react....just be careful

I've separated a shoulder and dislocated a shoulder. If you separated it you'd know because you would have been crying like a baby from the pain afterwards, it hurts a lot more than just being sore.

If you heard a distinct pop when you did it, you might have had a real brief dislocation that popped out and popped back in real quick. You can definitely feel a dislocation, it's hard to describe but if you could feel your shoulder socket pop out of place momentarily, that's what it was.

In either case, stretching it or working it out is definitely not what you should do. If it's just sore and feels very stable, you probably didn't do either. If you've still got a lot of pain when you move your shoulder or it feels very weak, go see a doctor. If you dislocated or separated it, you'll be in a sling for a couple weeks, which sounds bad but is not nearly as bad as dislocating every time you reach for your toothbrush, or completely separating your shoulder.

Did the same thing to myself, just decided to ignore it for a bit... turned out I broke and dislocated my shoulder. Took a few months to heal and alot of painful physio. Just pray you're not fucked for good like I am. But yes, get that checked out. The 'pop' sound you say probably meant it was dislocated and went back into place. The only problem is when it does that, it grinds the nerves and tissue in there (which explains the burst of pain, also which I had got) which good be bad, or very bad. Again, like I said, just hope it aint too serious.

i had a type 1 separation a couple weeks ago and it was very painful for about 2 hours but not ridiculously painful. It was about a 7.5 on a scale of 1-10. I didnt hear anything pop either though so you probably dislocated it or something

Dude, I had a 3rd degree separation of the shoulder playing rugby and I couldn't even lift my arm the next day. I required months of physio before I could go back to the gym, not to mention the fact it hurt every day. I couldn't even drive a stick shift for atleast a month and had to put it in 5th or reverse with my left hand... GO see the doc, they know what thy're talking about

I sepreated my shoulder this season. I sucks really bad. I didn't want to accept i was hurt at first so I skied the rest of the day, which was a big mistake and made it hurt ten times more after every jump. I went to the doctors and it was seperated. They will put you in a sling for a couple weeks so the ligamnets can heal then take it easy for about a month. I didn't do this and now my shoulder makes grinding noises, hurts, has no strength and is about a 1/2'-1' lower than the other one. Best advice is to see a doctor, rest, ice tons and don't push it.

dislocatin your shoulder sucks ass..... i did mine in 2 yearsago proabbly close to a 100 times , i had to hold in place when i sneezed so it wouldnt come out , thats how bad it was, then i got surgery in the off season, took a few months off, did the physo thing and all the other bs, then iwas up the hill one day , took a spill and out it came again, and now its fucked again and comes out all the time, so my advice to u is to go to the doc get that shizen checked out ,cause trust me u dont want to have fucked shoulders

Hey, if you're still throwing and not telling anyone what's up with your arm, I suggest you stop. If you're serious about baseball, throwing on it when it's possibly separated or dislocated could cause more serious damage. Ice is only good to help ease any swelling within 72 hours of the injury. If you can still throw, it probably isn't anything where you're going to require surgery (do you have any past injuries with your shoulder? How old are you?) and it means you can move it in a good range of motion. Is it only sharp, pain that only occurs during certain movement in a certain area? Or is it constant throbbing no matter what you do pain? Is it in the back of your shoulder (shoulder blade, or more on top where your shoulder and arm connect?) How bad is the swelling? Any clicking or popping? Athletic training is my major and I'm currently working with our school's baseball team, so maybe I can kind of help you. I know how tough skiers always want to be and they'll ski through a lot of shit that nobody really should do, but add baseball workouts on top of that, and you're adding a lot of stress to an area that doesn't really need it. Get back at me
