They're taking Jesus away

At Big Mountain, state forest service is saying that separation of church and state requires them to remove the statue above chair 2.

Honestly that's just ridiculous, hardcore atheists sometimes piss me off as often as hardcore Christians

As an atheist I can tell you that normally I don't care about people expressing their faiths. I just don't appreciate it when it's on public land. Christians wouldn't appreciate it if there was a huge muslim symbol at their favorite ski resort, just like I wouldn't appreciate if there was big jesus at Timberline.

I don't really know anything about this Jesus statue, but from reading the article it seems more like an iconic symbol of the mountain than a religious symbol. To me when it comes to things like that it's not seen as a religious item, but rather just part of the landscape that's been there for decades. The article said it's been there for 60 years. Who cares? Seriously. If a statue of Muhammed had been there for 60 years I'd be saying the same thing. I'm sure the vast majority of people who ski there pay no attention to it, it's just the annoying anti-Christians of the world who have a vendetta against everything representative of that culture (and I say that completely accepting that there are other religions/cultures/belief sets that have the same ridiculous vendettas against other religions/cultures/belief sets).

And for the record I don't really know what to classify what I believe, so I'm not really biased in this answer.

Yeah man I know what you mean, I'm agnostic but leaning towards atheism and like if this was on top of Congress I would probably be more annoyed, I just think this is kind of different because it's been their for years it's not like you see it everytime you pull up. I see what you mean with a huge muslim symbol christians would probably be in uproar about it but if it was a cross or any other symbol dear to them being taken down it's stealing their right to free speech...it's a huge double standard.

The reverse double standard can be apllied too the chances of a Muslim or a Christian winning a "discrimination" lawsuit in America.

Jerk off atheists doing exactly what annoys me about aggressive religious folks forcing there opinions down others throats and censoring crap.

In no way is this forcing opinions down anyone's throat. If it's a public non-religious place then they have every right to fight for it to be taken down. I am atheist but honestly I don't care about stuff like this. It's been there 60 years anyways so i don't see the point in removing it. Definitely more of a landmark than a religious statue at this point.

bad idea....no offence

but they also have one of these in whitefish montana on top of the hail mary run and i hope they dont take it down

This is going to be a cool story bro so be ready.

I've called this place, the Big Mountain, home for the past 23 years. I remember my dad always telling stories about riding up there and high-fiving the Jesus. Then he took me up there and I high fived God's son. Then i read this today, and I was bummed. Fuck religion, it really is just a symbol for the mountain. I honestly have plans stealing the Jesus to a smoke shack somewhere else on the mountain. Any fellow Big Mountain NS'ers are free to help me out cause that thing is heavy.
