Semi-formal attire

alright so tomorrow night i'm going to an event that's "semi-formal" as so i was told. And since whenever i i have to go somewhere "formal" i just wear a wool business style suit that's blue with a orange/light blue tie. but this semi formal thing kinda threw me off so what exactly is it limited/unlimited to?

i have a black wool/silk suit that's less businessy so should i wear that? also black bow tie? white dress shirt, light blue dress shirt? or black with white striped dress shirt? maybe a watch? idk NS give me some combos that will look fly. for the record im about 5'8 145, light brown hair

khaki pants, button up shirt (long sleeve), nice shoes

navy blue blazer if its cold

thats all you need

hahaha, I do this all the time.

My school has a dress code, in the fall it's just slacks and a collared shirt, in the winter it's shirt and tie, and in the spring it's nice shorts and a collard shirt so I do that all the time in the winter.

but on a tall tee

Er, That's officially casual attire...

The meanings for dress codes don't correspond to the normal way you would use the word. "Formal" means tuxedo or white tie. If you wear a suit to a formal event, you're woefully underdressed. You should definitely be wearing a suit and tie to a semi-formal event, at least. However, the fact that others may make similar errors (since no one seems to know any of this anymore) may mean that it doesn't matter, because others are likely to be underdressed too.

I think that what he's going to is what you consider casual attire. From my experience that's semi-formal. Idk if it's just my age (I'm 16) because we really don't ever get tuxedos.

cool, I'll check that out later, gotta stop procrastinating, hahaha-eeehh NS is too addictive.

What is the event?
It relates directly to that.
If it is a highschool dance, slacks and a nice shirt, if it is a college semi formal you can get away with a suit and tie and a pair of chucks
If there will be adults, it is suit and tie with nice shoes... black bow tie is pushing it. You usually end up taking the jacket off right away though.

wear black or dark jeans (depending on the colour of your suit jacket, and a tshirt underneath, possibly bandana or toque on top

that way you look rad. and formal

Dark jeans or slacks and a button up shirt

for semi-formal i usually throw on a sweater so id say definitely wear a sweater

just get some sick color combos and your set

semi formal is a non tux suit, pants and jacket should be dark, tie and shirt should complement each other.

Remember that you can always lose the jacket and take off the tie if you find your self over dressed compared to others around you. You will never be over dressed with slacks and a collared long sleeve shirt, especially if the event is labeled as semi formal. I would stress that you wear dark pants and a long sleeve collared shirt. It is much better to be overdressed then under dressed.
