Selvage denim

I just like the look of it. I also like the weight and how they don't bag out much. But yeah I suppose you're right. I def don't want to spend much on it.

Bottom line if you wanna get into selvedge denim start off with some of the cheaper stuff to see if you like it. Your top choice would be Unbranded, super legit denim and a really decent price. I also got a pair of Durkl selvedge jeans on PLNDR for like $50, and they were pretty good too, not as good as UB though. Around the same price if you get them on Durkl's online store.

So I wear a 29x30 in 511's. I think I am going to try the Unbranded and see how I like raw. Unfortunately, I only wear jeans 2-3 days a week. With that usage, should I still sizer down to a 28 or just go with the 29?

UB155 Skinny Fit Black to start. I can rock all black jeans at work with all black Vans and they don't say anything since they don't look like 'jeans', and if I like those, I'll snag a pair of the UB106 Skinny Fit Grey's.

ive never worn levis or unbranded skinnys before but from looking at the measurements i would go with size 29 unless you want the jeans really tight.

also i would just like to throw this out there for anyone looking to buy higher quality raw denim i would really reccommend blue in green. from my experiences with them there customer service has been great. and theyve also got some really good brands.

Started this thread a while ago

I just bought my 5th pair of raws ($20 501s), and I'm happy to have spent the money on the raws I own. I didn't read much of this thread because it seemed like it was just people arguing, so I'll just throw in my two cents on the whole thing:

start cheap! there's no need to jump into the deep end right away. 501 STFs, unbranded, and naked and famous are all fabulous places to start, and won't break the bank (501 STF you can find for MAX $45, unbrandeds are about $80-$100, and N&F run about $150 from what I've seen).

Make sure you know if the denim is sanforized/unsanforized. Sanforized denim means most of the shrinkage has been taken out of the denim before being put on the shelf, so you don't need to size up to account for shrinkage. If you get unsanforized (501 STF is a perfect example) I would size up 1 size on the waist, and maybe 2 inches on the inseam (for a "normal" fit, if you want baggier or skinnier you can upsize/downsize accordingly). Sanforized denim I usually size down one or 2 waist sizes for a slimmer fit but again that's preference.

It's not a bad idea to soak, regardless if they're sanforized or not. If they're unsanforized, you HAVE TO soak. If you don't they'll shrink A LOT on the first wash, and all of the fading you've started will shift and look strange. Soaking sanforized denim isn't necessary, but I do it anyways just because it doesn't hurt anything. By soaking I also mean sitting in the tub with the jeans on. The hotter the water, the more they'll shrink. Chill in the tub for like half an hour and you're good to go! Wear 'em till they're dry or hang 'em up, it does't matter too much.

Denim stretches, whether it's sanforized or not. my rule is that if I can get the waist all the way buttoned up at all (even if it's batshit tight), then it'll stretch out enough. I even did this for my 501s before I soaked them, and the waist still stretched enough afterwards that they're comfortable to wear and not too tight.

Go as long as you can without washing them, but there's no need to be extreme. If you spill a ton of shit on them or they smell like moldy assholes, throw them in the wash! They're jeans, not silk dress shirts - they'll be fine. If you do throw them in the wash, you can minimize shrinkage/fading by turning them inside out, washing them by themselves, with cold water on a gentle cycle. Hang dry (dryers are not good for denim), and then wear when they're all dry. If they just smell but aren't stained, you can also just soak them in the bathtub and swirl some detergent around, which usually does the trick for me.

That's all I can think of right now, if you have any other questions feel free to PM me!

I think 29 would be a safe bet. The main concern are the thighs. The Waist will shrink but the things won't.

But yea, I'd go 29 if I were you.

NO always size down unless they are unsanforized, 28 or 27, unbranded seems to stretch a lot so they are going to go up 3" guaranteed

if you can put them on all the way your first time they are to big, you should only be able to button up like half the buttons

It completely depends on the person dude. In the waist that was fine for me when I downsized two on some 18oz NF WGs, but I have big thighs and those jeans turned out to be way too tight for me to really wear at all. It's better to be a little baggier than too tight, and it's not like they're momos so even if they do end up a little bit too big it's not the end of the world

Momotaro makes top end denim, you won't be disappointed. I've had a pair for about a year, and I've worn them on and off. They don't fade as fast as other pairs that I've seen, but when they do start do fade they're a nice blue. The fit is definitely a lot slimmer than I'm used to, and the rise is lower than I prefer, but I like them nonetheless.

Solid, I've definitely noticed the slim fit and low rise, but that's how I wear my pants anyway. All there is left to do is wait now I guess!

Looking at a pair of Unbranded Indigo UB201's. I normally wear waist size 32 with Levi's 513's, but from my experience Levi's waist sizes can vary greatly from what size it claims to be. I measured myself with a shoe string and got roughly 32.

I was looking at the measuring guide for the Unbranded UB201's and it says a "Size 30" has a waist size of 32. Should I size down even more? I only ask because everyone is saying that these pants should be extremely tight the first time on.

Since when did everyone on this website start getting boners over over-priced pieces of cotton.

Oh wait.

Wore Unbranded 201s from January til June last year, they came out really well but I grew out of them so I bought a pair of APC petit new standards this October and I've been working on those. It's cool to see your jeans progress and the price isn't even that bad when you consider that most people have a variety of pants that all cost about 40 bucks.

Yea, almost think of the sizes as arbitrary numbers.

Since it say's size 30 is actually a 32, that means that the waist is 32" around. So if you got 30 (32" waist) it's fit your waist perfect when it arrives.

Since the waist stretches out a bit, i'd recommend the size 29 because it has a 31" waist that will stretch out to fit you well. If you wanted, you could go size 28. My personal preference is to go true to size or a size down 1". I hate wearing jeans that have tight waists to break them in. I get uncomfortable when I sit down n stuff.

I wear size 34 511's that fit me perfect when i buy them, then they bag out hard. I got the UB with the 34" waist and they fit perfect at the beginning. They're a bit loose now, but nowhere near as much as 511s.

Just check your thigh measurements. If you squat/workout, they can be tight. The thighs don't tend to stretch out.

correction, UB sizing is weird now.

I'd go down to a 28" waist if i were you, or 27" if you're hardcore.

Thanks for the info! I have bigger thighs so I'm definitely gonna go with at least the 29's strictly for that reason. I'm gonna sit on it for a day or two and see if I think I should go 28 instead. I can always exchange them if I think they'll be too loose. Thanks again!

THE most important thing is to size to your LEGS and not your waist. Like what has been said earlier, the waist will stretch considerably. The thighs still stretch, but just not nearly as much as the waist will.

Dude I'm not a jeans/denim snob any don't buy jeans that are over 100 dollars (I buy 100-200 dollar jeans on sale for 40-70 bucks) but you need to get the correct look.

Might want darker jeans. Might want non blue jeans. Might want light/bleached jeans. Might want jeans that are a cross between jeans and dress pants but are of denim material. Might want baggy, might want tighter, etc etc etc. Everyone has their own preferances. I like the light bleached jeans for wearing with athletic clothes/shoes so buy those baggy. For denim I wear with nice clothes I buy tighter jeans. And since I don't ass tight jeans I buy jeans 2 sizes too big in the waist so that the legs have more room since I want the slim look but dn't want them to fit like spandex.

If there is any item of clothing to be specific about its getting the right jeans.

This is what I copped today to have a different look got some good shoes/shirts/blazers they match with.

Got 42 in waist when I'm really a 36 or 38 since I don't want them to be ass tight. Even buying thm in size 40 wouldn't be roomy enough. And the thighs fit perfectly even with a waist that is way too big. Every other pair of non baggy jeans I have have shitty tight ass pockets but these are fine its great having slim jeans with roomy pockets. I've lost important shit when I've worn too tight jeans and had too much in the pockets (Remember a nigga like me obviously has a lot of peices of paper in his pockets not to mention phone/lighter/cards/drugs.)

I've worn mine almost 200 days probably, not one wash, and still just smell like jeans. You can sniff right by the b-hole and nothin.

Balto is completely right about N&F. i had the weird guys, and they fit so silly. the waist was massive, but the rest of them fit fine. they're decent quality, but there's so much better stuff out there. i have 21oz samurai's now, and i love them. unbelievable difference in quality.

I loled.

To add to the thread, I have huge ass thighs with a tiny waist and wanted to get some selvedge denim. The only jeans I could find that would fit me in the thighs while still being reasonable in the waist were some nudie sharp bengts. They're nice and pretty comfortable. I wish higher end denim brands made jeans for real men with huge skier legs. Does anyone know of super high quality selvedge jeans that aren't a really skinny fit?

I've got a pair of naked and famous slim guys and I love them. Check out some forums on selvedge denim, people there know a lot. I've had mine for about 2 years now, and I only wear em about 2 to 3 times a week, but they look SOLID. And once they've broken in they're the most comfortable jeans I own along with a pair of Diesel jeans I've got. For the price, naked and famous is awesome quality. Tempted to cop a pair of unbrandeds as well. About to give them a second soak today or tomorrow,i can post some pics of how they look if anyone would like me to.

Every time I see this thread I go thru the "wtf" point of wondering why someone wants to salvage denim, and then I remember that's not actually what it says..
