hey hey hey i am gonna be just like everyone else and stop liking a band when they get on mtv or do a commercial. even though the music is the same i hate it now cause they 'sold out'

98 percent of the music on MTV becomes shitty because you get videos, and with videos comes directors, and with directors comes producers and with producers you get bands with no more freedom of expression, they are told what to do, how to dress, how to act, and even what style of music they should be playing(not entirely but they get pressured im sure, theres no way to deny that fact.) and with all that you get a band that has become a sellout. most of the music that is off the air and off mtv is great music and will stay that way because of a limited source of other influences.

Yep its summer on NSers again. The first thread on the 'selling out' debate. Hopefully this will be the last one I respond to ever. Music is simple, if you like it, listen. Why does music have to be so political these days?

Though I don't like it when bands sell out i HATE it when people start hate and flaming them when they get popular. for example you never say and Good charlotte hate threads a year ago, now the internet is littered with it.

as for bands selling out i define that as changin their style. Look at less than jake, their music and slyrics are different. The video is COMPLETELY different to other wones. Just watch 'automatic' then watch 'she's gonna break soon'

the only reason you see good charlotte hate threads now is cuz they get on tv and they get exposure. that means more people watching them. in every crowd there are always people who hate whats goin on. enlarge the crowd and you enlarge the number of people hating. cuz as the number of haters goes up so do the lovers, but the lovers dont complain, so all you see is the haters. very simple concept that nobody seems to get.

also like i said before the bands on mtv suck so much cuz yeah they do sell out big time. think about it. if you were startin a band up and you had it goin for a few years and you were doin great jus doin little gigs at the local coffee shop and clubs and stuff. all that music is pure and raw and not driven by money or anything else but love for music and performing it for other peoples enojyment. now nobody can sit there and tell me that a majority of the bands/artists on mtv arent after that quick buck once they get a taste of it. the music quality decreases as well as the music being influenced by what is 'hip' and 'cool' nowadays so yeah fuckers mtv artists are fuckin sellouts. the only guy who managed to be on mtv and keep his music raw and real would have to be kurt kobain. that guy kept it real. he slept in a fuckin car while he had millions of dollars. he wore the same clothes for days on end. and all he did and care about was wanna make great music for the people and thats what he did. god damn shame he killed himself cuz he didnt want all the fame that came along with it and nobody payed any attention to that poor soul. mtv killed kurt kobain, cuz all they wanted to do was to keep showin his face and playin his music all over the fuckin place no matter what he said. now i want you all to think about that next time you watch mtv people. cuz mtv is an evil company.

i disagree with what you said about everyband being caught up in fame... for example, Rage Against the Machine did not get caught up in it. They used it to further promote their message by having more people hear their lyrics. IF you ever think that they did not stick to their cause, watch the music video for Sleep Now in the Fire. They fuckin showed wallstreet whats up

in order to make music you have to make money. MOST bands when they start making the money dont change their music they still make the music they want to. the record companies may try to influence but MOST bands still do what they want. So what if a band changes style, if you dont like it then you dont like it, there is no need to trash the band just cause you dont like what they are doing now. If you like the music great if not dont be a whiny little bitch and yell sell out, thats gonna be the next phrase all the 'pop-punkers' will be using.

real bands don't need videos to make up for their shitty songs

Selling out is a wasted term. It can not be used until a band makes music that they disagree with, and are making it because others want them to. If it is true music, then it comes from the heart no matter what the song sounds like. If a hardcore band wants to play a slow ballad type of song, its not selling out because they want to make it. If their slow ballad because popular and they start writing more ballads to sell more records, then that is selling out. If you see a video on MTV or anywhere else, its not selling out either because that just means that more than like 4 people like the song. People throw the word 'sell out' around too much and don't really know what it means.
