Self portrait critique

this afternoon i was bored, so i decided that i would do some self portraits for the first time. these were shot with a 40D using one onboard vivitar flash, so keep this in mind while critiquing.

dont point the flash directly at you. Bouncing it off of the ceiling will get rid of those shadows on the wall behind you.
 
just boring... like stated above, bounce the flash for better lighting and spend time making sure they are super crisp and that there is some sort of emotion or something interested going on. Quite honestly it just looks like you used a coolpix or some other shit point and shoot to take them
 
#1 and #3 have potential if you shoot them better from both a technical and compositional standpoint. As a series, it does not work at all for me...I am not seeing any cohesiveness about it, and the images are not telling of who you are, what you are thinking, etc. A series should be a set of images that tie together, not just a series of shots that you put side by side. Keep the order of the photos in mind too, because that can drastically affect how they are perceived.
