Holy crap. If colorado can sign a good goalie then they'll be unstoppable. If they don't win the cup they should be slapped. Selanne and Kariya both signed one year deals. Kariya signe for 1.2 million, after he mae 10 million last year in Anehiem. he said he just wants to play with Salanne and win a cup. crazy eh?

It kinda ruins the sport if you ask me. Let's stack 4-5 teams so the other 28 teams that aren't filthy rich have no chance. Kariya left a team that had done so much for him and made it as far as game 7 of the Stanely cup finals to play for a rich team that is already stacked. It looks like he's a good guy taking a pay cut, but since he's 30 next year and making less than the league average, he becomes unrestricted, so by taking a cut for one year it works out in his favour in the future. I like Karyia, but this signing really sucks.

We will undoubtedly mutilate the entire league next year, but yeah, I have to agree with Jay that this completely destroys a fair and balanced NHL, it's quite bad for Hockey. If Bettman (the commish) had a spine he'd declare the deal invalid, because all other teams are fucked.

what would make it invalid though? colorado has a history of getting players when they are young and helping them mature in the colorado organization or on the team itself (sakic, forsberg, tanguay, hejduk, drury, and even mats sundin etc) so when they go out and spend a little money once in a while all the better for them. so bettman doesnt have a reason to do anything. it does, however, screw every other team over royally.

i love pauly, but i agree that the situation has been pr'd to make him look good, when all it does is help him and screw over the ducks. if he really wanted to win a cup, he could have persuaded selanne to come back to the ducks, which was a good possibility anyway, and then they would have had a great chance to win it all. selfish.

I fukkin hate colorado....damn gapers. they are gonna kick some ass this year though, with a lineup like that they'll be damn hard to beat.

 
But the thing is is that we didn't spend a lot of money, Kariya took a 9 MILLION dollar pay cut to play with us, and Selanne took a sizeable one too. They didn't give other teams a chance to get them, it's like if Barry Bonds, Todd Helton, Albert Pujols, and Randy Johnson just went to the Yankees for a mil each because they would win. Not fair.

I think that's why, as much as hate CO, Wings fans all respect the avs passion for winning hockey games and players taking pay cuts for the good of the team shows that passion, what was that 8 million dollar pay cut, thats passion. It's goona be a good season next year.

good season next year, u mean for colorado and the wings, geez. i like the teams that play with so much heart and have to deal with the lack of payroll. The Oilers and Sens are erfect examples

I have to admit here in detroit we are spoiled like the yankees in baseball. But as proved last season you can't buy a championship every year. That first round outer by anahiem was a bitter pill to swollow around here.

I too like the Oil and the Sens, but the Oil are really frustrating me. Somebody help these guys out PLEASE. Weight, Guerin, Carter, Marchant, Ninnema... that's just off the top of my head. So much talent in that organization that they just can't hold on to, despite the fact that players love to play there. Then you have the Avs who could afford a small country and score superstar players for less that the league average.

dont even talk about it you dont know how pissed people are in LA about this whole deal not really pissed at Kariya but pissed at the ducks GM cus all he had to do is offer him the same he made last season and he wouldnt have been able to go anywhere.

It will be all good if the Kigs get Drury or Fedorov.

 
roy only needs a vacation or something..he's been in the playoff's forever and dominating them every year,he's got a shitload of playoff records,he just needs a break,he's tired..i bet he could pull a micheal jordan and come back in a few years and win

I'm kinda glad Roy is bowing out, he sucked in the playoffs frankly, and his arthritic hip is only getting worse. We need some young blood in the organization like Aebischer and Suave, but hey, it doesn't even matter because we could let in 6 goals a game and still win them. Nobody has mentioned either that besides one of the best offenses in hockey history now, we also have Blake, Skoula, Foote, and Morris on our all-star defense.

although it would be a battle of my two favourite teams, i hope the sens completely trap the avs when they play. it would be hilarious to see an offense like that silenced.

I heard that detriot was gonna sign hasek. that means that colorado could sign cujo. that would be crazy. I dunno if that will happen. I doubt it but it would suck if it did.
