Security or freedom

so i have to right a paper on security or freedom and i cant really think of reasons or things to right about on why our county should sacrifice freedom for security. i came up with plenty of things for why we should have freedom.

help me out

Thomas Jefferson said "he who would sacrifice freedom for safety deserves neither." or something like that.

I guess it all comes down to what is freedom worth suffering? Many philosophers believed that evil is directly caused by freedom, but to sacrifice freedom for safety is a free choice, and henceforth there is still evil and suffering inherent.

Freedom. If we continue giving up our freedoms, America will lose the one part remaining that used to be America when it was created. While security is great, it wont stop everything. Not all airplane bombs can be destroyed, and not all subway bombings will be stopped. Its the governments responsibility in America to allow for freedom. The security they offer is only a false hope; while it may help a lot, it cannot solve everything. A new solution is needed. (I hope that you are American, otherwize most everything I said is useless)

well, to a certain extent, security is much more important than freedom. I'm very happy it is illegal to kill people. I'm very happy robbery is illegal. I'm glad we have search warrants, etc...

use that quote in your Thesis and write about how america was founded on the principal of freedom and equal opertunity. extra security gives the government too much power and power corupts and if we dont use a system of checks and ballances we will eventually wind up in a state very similar to the country we are at war with.

The posibilities are endless

I agree with you that security is needed to a certain extent. I was more speaking about how today allowing the white hosue to listen on your conversations is heading towards overuse of security. I dont really mind if they listen to my conversations, or anyone elses for that matter, but it is still headed towards losing more and more freedoms. I would personally rather have freedom and a slightly higher chance at dying because of it, than complete loss of freedom because security is above it.

freedom and security combine to make that state of nature.. you cant have both. freedom without security does mean you can do what you want

Yeah, sorta. I agree with you, but where do you draw the line? What's the difference between the government checking to make sure somebody's not planning a terrorist attack and running a background check before someone buys a gun? You don't need consent to run a background check. It could be considered spying.

I had to write a paper on this about the shawshank redemption. I dunno maybe I'm off but thinking along those lines could give you some ideas

true freedom is not being safe though. think about it, a gazelle is free and its always about to get eaten by a cheetah. security is key because humans arent intelligetn enough yet to exist in anarchy which would be the best form of society. if everyone could live in harmony. i personally think we will never be able to stop everyone from finding a way to blow up a plane or bomb a building so why inpair our lives and try? do you really think those london bombers were actually gonna blow something up? no, it was actually proven that their plan was impossible to set off on a plane, they needed like 4 hours of undesturbed time to mix checicals and then let them crytalize before they would become explosive. everything will be better once bush is out, cause no matter who opur next pres is he/she will not be as bad as bush

nope, definitly not, you can have freedom complete freedom without security, feeling ''safe'' has nothing to do with freedom
