Seattle PD is out of control and our DA is lacking a spine.

thats shit. there are a few racially intolerant people there, but they are everywhere. we barely have any other ethnicity in our town.... maybe 5%(guessing) is other than white. not really melting pot by any means

ok sooo if im seeing the video right the guy had his knife out crossing a street, maybe carving something or just holding it. the cop gets out tells him to drop the knife, 2 seconds later shoots him in the back 4 times. thats fucked.its sad that you cant be in public holding a fucking tool without risking your life. that cop deserves nothing less than to be charged with murder and spend most of his life in jail. the fact that he is a cop, put in a position of power to protect the people should only make his charges more harsh.
i respect a lot of cops that ive come across, there are some genuinely great people who become a cop to help and protect people, but these people are getting more rare. the majority of cops i come across are power tripping douche bags. and half the time i feel threatened by them, like they are the enemy, which is not how it should be.
i was riding in my friends car this car ahead of us was going like 10 under and swerving all over, my friend flashed his brights at him. the guy got behind us, and turns out he was an off duty cop in an undercover car. so he put his lights on, pulls us over, walks up to us with his gun drawn, pointing it at my friends face, insulting him, we were asking him why he was pointing his gun at us and he wouldnt answer, just kept yelling and pointing it at us, then said "where im from if you treat people like this you get shot" then left.
i just dont get how people like this arent instantly fired, the idea of a police officer is great. but instead of viewing them as someone who can help me, i view them as more of a threat to my safety than anything, especially when you see them getting away basically going up to someone and shooting them in the back for not breaking any laws. ive never used a cop to help me in my life, my only real confrontations ive had with cops, like my example above, have been bad, i had another cop cuff me for something i didnt do, pull me aside from the crowd, then wisper to me that i should just admit to doing it, even if it wasnt me, because it would be quicker and easier.cops really are becoming the enemy.

i was in downtown seattle with a friend and he is a minority and we got talked to and he told me i could go but my buddy was going to get a sobriety test. he passed. called the police man a bigot. and recived a fat fine later.

whyd he call him a bigot? why would you bait a cop?

If the cop was a bigot, he would be looking for a reason to fuck over your friend, why give him that reason? Life isnt fair, dont make it harder on yourself.

I AM AN ORIGINAL GANGSTER AND I WILL CUT YOU

just because that fucking cop has a badge and a gun, he thought he had all the right in the world to shoot an innocent woodcarver. fucked up that someone could get away from a murderer just because they work for the government. That officer should be in prison

because as of very recently, the supreme court ruled that you are allowed to call a police officer whatever you want as long as it is not an active threat. Your first amendment right is protected while speaking to a cop, so fuck them.

sweet dude. it's not like it only happens in seattle. there are bad cops everywhere. they're not "out of control".

indeed. I consider myself a pretty educated person, aware of world events, basic history, etc., and I could not tell you where the strait of Gibraltar is without looking it up. Know why? Because it is irrelevant.

i see what ur saying about protecting urself around cops and ur right. BUT dont you think we shouldn't have to live in this constant fear trying to fit into what the cops thinks is normal? angry black women can't change her skin color or the fact that shes angry.

the whole public concept of police needs to change. people are never innocient until proven guilty which is how it should work in theory. instead they look for who might be guilty based on their biases and try to lay as many charges on as they can. all along thinking they are helping this person?

respect gets respect, and when a cop respects me i will give it back. from 90% of my experiences police never show me respect, even when im looking rich, white, and submisive. so why should i respect them?

angry black woman- as a stereotype they are loud, belligerent, and obnoxious. you should never be these things when dealing with cops. you completely wiffed on that point.

your right it does suck that we are looked at as guilty until proven innocent by cops. but they have to think like that or criminals would run wild. At the slightest hint of trouble, or sketchiness they take action to investigate the issue. It is in the court system that we are innocent until proven guilty.

Lastly, Cops are the authority figure in any situation. You need to lay off the anger towards authority, and realize that you can defuse the situation by respecting a cop even if at first they come off as aggressive and brash.

I completely understand why 90% of your encounters with cops have been bad if you truly do as you say: " and when a cop respects me;i will give it back" basically you act like a dick if the cop isnt respectful to you. any half wit can see why they treat you like shit.

treat the cops like an interviewer. In an interview the goal is to get the job, while with cops the goal is to get away scott free as quickly as possible, or to atleast mitigate the punishment.

How are you gonna go about this. first you would respect your interviewr/cop. you smile, and are very polite, answering questions, or politely refusing to do so. You actively, yet respectfully show that you want the job (want to leave).

You can most certainly flex your rights without being at all disrespectful to the police.

how about you just respect anyone who could put your ass in cuffs? common sense guys, if only to avoid getting in deeper shit than you are, just respect the cops like you would ski patrol, because both could have to save your life at one point. when you're talking to a cop its no time to disrespect them cuz they didnt roll out the welcome mat. remember most of the people there job deals with are criminals, so cut them some slack if there not so cheerful on the job.

all the same seattle pd is a shitstorm right now

My point is angry black women doesn’t know/care about the right way of dealing with police. A smart well trained cop should be above the dumb angry black women level, not pulling the trigger first asking questions later.

Criminals would run wild!! Hahahaha – that’s the western mentality that’s shaping the power position we give police. Thanks - No need to try and argue with you on that one.

Did you read what I said? I'm above the angry black women level, I deal with cops being polite, listening to what they say. Doing as they tell me I still don’t get any respect back 90% of the time. It's not that I disrespect them at all...

Police treat the average person like a spoiled child that needs discipline and I can't respect that. Don't give me the police have a hard job argument... that's just accepting the fact that theres a problem and ur not willing to do anything about it.

exactly, police are put in a huge position of power, and despite whether or not they should, they have way more power than the average citizen. and with that power comes a responsibility that many cops these days lack. they need to be above the angry black woman and all the typical pissy people that they encounter. nobody is forcing them to be a police officer, its not our fault that they have to deal with the shit they deal with. its 100% their choice to put themselves in a position to encounter it. when they knowingly seek a job that comprises mostly of hostile confrontations, they need to be able to handle it, and when they have as much power as they do it makes their ability to handle these situations 100 times more important, as it really can be life threatening to them and citizens. not only that but it begins to really stretch our rights as citizens when we cant be walking down the street not breaking any laws and still have to fear the police.
ive got a friend whos father is a cop, a cop that i actually respect, he absolutely hates writing speeding tickets and doesnt really give a shit what your doing as long as it isnt harming anyone. anyway.. my friend/his son, has been with me for multiple encounters with police and its amazing how well he can get cops to back off, the cops were called to another friends house while we were there for using a potato gun. and this kid just starts laying into the cop, listing laws he has broken by coming into his fenced off backyard, he's able to criticize every move and in almost every encounter they leave within a very short amount of time. anyway, my point is, we hardly know our own rights, cops knowingly infringe on our rights without us knowing, and not only is the average citizen poorly educated on their own rights, but they do not stand up for them. cops do not and should not have as much power as we give them. they need to fear and respect us as much as we fear and respect them.

i agree with everything said except one small part. Until we start paying cops alot more, they wont be able to attract the amount of high character people. If you are a good cop, you would probly be very succesful at many other higher paying positions. So many high character people choose to njot go into law enforcement because the stress and danger is not worth the pay.

We need to convince america to pay more taxes to fund Police departments. But is the PD a higher priority than education? medicare? social security? etc

the point is that the people who have any sort of political power are not harassed by the cops, so see no issue with it, so nothing will really change. so why act arrogant, and belligerent to the police when you know some of them are looking for an excuse to fuck your day up.

We shouldnt have to deal with the police like that, they shouldnt generalize. Regardless of being your attitude, the only thing that should matter is whether your innocent or guilty. not to say that if youre out of control that they dont have the right to detain you, but if you are complying with them and being rude, they shouldnt use that as motivation to search you or question you more than they would if you were being polite. i guess what im trying to say is that they should only act upon true suspicion, not anything else

haven't seen anything on the news yet but who came into where i work today said people were rioting downtown. a coworker got a text with a picture and it didn't look rowdy but i never heard it described as a protest, everybody was saying riot. could get crazy tonight
