Seatbelt law?

So 49 states have a law or some sort of fine that tells you that you are required to wear a seatbelt. I personally dont agree with it because i dont think that the government has to tell us if we are wearing are seatbelt or not. It kinda violates are freedom of are property haha. I am just wondering what other people think about it. If its a good law or a stupid law.

I think that it's dumb that you have to wear a seat belt in a car, but you don't have to wear a helmet on a motorcycle. I don't get it at all.

Yeah, you have a problem with the government trying to keep your brains in your skull. Hmmmmmmm.

Also, by being a part of the country you essentially sign a social contract telling the government that in exchange for some of your abilities to defend yourself here and there that the government will be the ones responsible for you to stay safe.

exactly. why the fuck would you not wear one. youd have to be mentally retarded to not wear one. they arent very constricting at all, and i bet itll save your life one day

Because a car offers some form of protection in a crash, so it is usually best to stay in it.

A bike however, does not. The last thing you want is to be strapped to a 250lb dead weight rag dolling out of control.

just thought id let you know that my last 3 "my threads" threads have you as the most recent poster

I knew there was gonna be a guy that posts there opinion and they think everyone is retarded or stupid for not wearing one. Do you know how many people dont wear there seatbelt even tho theres a law? Your calling everyone in this country that doesnt wear a seatbelt retarded.

You're instead of Your.

ANYWAYS, it kinda is. It is like a member of the Marine Corps telling his CO

"NAH MAN!!!! I ain't gonna wear my flakvest today cause it makes me look fat."

It is built in the car in order for your protection. Why wouldn't you wear that?

I had my life saved by a seatbelt. You aren't gonna see it coming, there is a very good chance you'll be in a car accident in your life and there is a good chance you'll die if you dont wear a seatbelt. get off your high horse about your rights and wear it.

You are the person thats gonna make me remember to put my seat belt on everytime!! That was so well worded! you should be a poet

What happens if you get in a accident and you can not get your seat belt off? what are you going to do if your car starts on fire and your just sitting there with trying to get it off even tho thats the things thats saving you

lets compare how often cars catch fire, to how often people get in accidents where their seatbelts save them from serious injury or death. exactly, stfu

grow a brain dude. if youre not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident youre either gonna get thrown out of the car through the windshield or you will be unconscious and mangled inside the car

I don't think the government should mandate anything that forces a person to take care of them selves as long as it doesn't effect another person directly. This is a long road for the government to go down and will end with a nanny state where no one can eat fast food or use tanning beds.

People are responsible for themselves and no one should be able to tell them how to take care of themselves.

That being said you would be a fool not to wear a seat-belt. I like the law for this reason alone; If you are in an accident and you don't wear a seat-belt you are likely to die or be permanently injured. This is a huge strain on the health care system with you becoming a vegetable and therefore a huge strain on my taxes and insurance premiums. So by not wearing a seat belt you directly cost me money.

So seat-belt laws save lives and save money so I am for them, however you would have to be pretty delusional to think that the real reason for these laws is to protect people. The real reason for these laws is to increase revenue and give cops just a little more power when pulling someone over.

if the accident was so bad that the car is on fire i will guarantee you wouldnt live through the crash without the belt, or at least not be conscious to help yourself anyways.

If you are in a wreck bad enough that your car catches fire, yer gonna be dead if you aren't wearing your seatbelt cause you will probably break your neck hitting the windshield or die if you make it through the windshield.

to the motorcycle helmet comment, a bunch of states have, or are trying to enact, a helmet law.
but helmets are way less likely to save your life then a seatbelt. in most accidents over neighborhood speeds, a helmet is the difference between an open/closed casket. motorcycles are deathtraps, hence the reason so many people love them.

Well first off there isn't any reason NOT to wear one. Second off, which right are you saying is violated? Can you cite one or are you just blabbering in ignorance?

haha yeah that car went right over him, but he planned that one to happen like flip then go under the car then hop up and run away!

this summer my friends were on a trip up north to spend the weekend camping. 3 of them wore seatbelts. the fourth one didn't and i'm very sad to say my friend is not alive. they weren't speeding either.

did you see the video? did you read what i said? you make zero since with that quote to what i said

ill give you 10!

it irritates my neck

its hard to beat off with the chest belt in the way

it doesnt match my outfit

it gets to tight

i cant turn well with it on

i forget to take it off thus getting out of the car with it on

i heard you can get decapitated from the neck belt

motorcycles dont have seat belts and theyre not even inside a car, way safer to be in a car

i forgot officer!

because im tough and i wear my hat real low and i drove with the chi town lean!!!!!!!!!!!!

i cant stand people who dont wear seatbelts, this is the only thing i do routinely without thinking! your fucking stupid if you dont wear it, its there for your safetly, and if your too cool to wear it, then so be it. but dont expect sympathy from anybody when your in the hosipital busted up as shit cause your rolled your car doing 80 and didnt have a seat belt on. dont expect sympathy cause you've killed your best friend cause he didnt have a seat belt, go thrown through the windshield and into a fucking tree. dont expect sympathy when you cant walk cause you've shattered every bone in your body.

ignorance is the leading killer of teens in the United States.

no i understand its sarcasm, but the sentence structure and lack of commas doesnt help at all. It just doesnt read clearly.

This is the dumbest fucking thread. The government is just making sure everyone stays safe. The government also checks what is sold to you (ex. USDA Beef), want them to just throw meat on the shelves hoping it's safe? They also require insurance on a vehicle to drive and register your vehicle, it protects you or the other driver from paying expensive costs. While we're at it, we might as well take away police and fire departments and let people fend for themselves, plus, it might lower your taxes a little! Don't be a dumbfuck. Why would someone not wear a seat belt when they have the opportunity to? Yes, I am calling all those people out there who choose to not wear seat belts dumbfucks. It really is stupid. My Aunt almost died from not wearing a seat belt. The passenger in the car with her walked away from the accident with only bruises- he was wearing a seat belt.

As far as the helmets on motorcyclists goes, it all depends on the state you are in. Here in California a motorcyclist is required to wear a helmet at all times. I remember staying with my Grandparents in South Carolina a few Summers back and I flipped when I saw guys riding fast and recklessly down the highway with no helmet.

you really got off topic there. I don't really see how police and firemen are even close to on the same level as a seatbelt...

You missed the point. The government is trying to protect us by requiring seatbelts. If we take away this law to protect us, then they should just start taking away other things that protect us. Were my examples good- no, were they off topic- I don't think so.
