Seasons pass price increase bullshit

So, my local hill has raised their price of a pass yet again this year. They raised the price last year, and have now raised the price again for this upcoming season, by $100 making it close to a grand for a pass. Now, sure I understand that sometimes you gotta raise the price after say — putting in a new lift, making new runs, expanding SOMETHING! But in the past two years of them raising the price of their seasons pass, there has been no on hill improvements. The only thing they have "improved" is a new condo complex... which I'm not even sure is actually associated with the ski hill proper — and has nothing to do with on hill anything.

Not only have they not made any on hill improvements, they didn't have a brushing crew this year to make the trails better, and they fired the head of outdoor operations during the summer and eliminated his job for the upcoming winter. So, no new lifts (or upgrades to the old lifts), no new trails (or trail maintenance of any kind), no renovations on the day lodge or any on hill buildings, we have no snowmaking, and you can pretty much guarantee the park won't see anything in terms of "improvements" or a bigger budget or more cat time, or any of that stuff a park needs to become good.

So what the fuck? How can ski hills justify raising their price year after year when they don't do anything to warrant a price increase? This really bugs me.

I'd imagine they would argue a combination of inflation and economic downturn....which makes a their decision to raise prices all the more ridiculous - less people will buy them.

you should be asking them. write them a polite letter. asking why the increase in price with no increase of resort.

Because they can do what they want. If they think they'll make more money with more expensive seasons passes then they'll jack up prices. Plus, this huge condo complex is full of people who are forced to pay for the seasons pass regardless of what price it is.

as of right now, i won't be able to afford a pass... fuck mee... maybe something miraculouw will happen for my birthday!!!

EPIC pass......

nuff said.... dealio of the century....

unfortunately ski areas are businesses though.... write to the area manager and ask for an explanation - sure they'll give you the break down, in these times - it's probably a necessary evil for the smaller hills not run by corporate monsters like Intrawest.... suck it up, pay up and support your hill.... think how you'd feel if it closed and went bankrupt?

There are economists predicting double digit inflation in the US this year. While I find that somewhat doubtful, and I don't exactly what the implications of that are on Canadian inflation, chances are good that your mountain is simply erring on the side of financial safety with the economy doing as badly as it is, and especially since it's an El Nino year.

Economists love to argue....

While inflation is a problem in the future. They do not predict any kind of real inflation until 2010 and 2011. And also, in any growing economy, you have a certain amount of inflation.

Due the economic situation we are in currently, and the fact we are still in the recession, and it will continue in to 2010 the facts point to a deflationary period of time until the economy quits contracting.

So basically no reason to worry about inflation. It is a scare tactic anyways. You can't have growth without inflation.

Plain and simple.

i joined the ski and snowboard club at my school and they gave me a password to lower the price a little on my season pass at the nearest resort. Look into finding something like this around you. i've had it at 2 different schools now.

where do you live? my pass costs 90 bucks cause my dad works there and we get half price tickets at crested butte, 3 free days at A-basin and i heard a rumor that aspen tickets will be discounted too but idk for sure.

So at my Michigan resorts.... My one up north I bought a pass for this season last march for 209. Great deal. But the crappy one 45 minutes away that is an old garbage dump still has their pass for 444 if you buy in semtember and 555 in november. A straight rip off for the skiing there. Seeing as I can't drive until next year, I don't think I will get a pass to the one 45 minutes away.

Word to that. Im shreddin big sky this year, and their pass is 1000 but they arent having a park!!! :( it doesnt get much worse than that.

I get my tickets for free. My Dad does part time teaching on the weekends and my whole family is free.

Canada won't see inflation for a while, but it is coming. As for the markets... theyre doing just fine, Shit the Dow is over 9500 for no good reason. But that is besides the point, the economy has zero correlation to what ski hills are doing with their season passes. Ski hills make very little profit from passes, they make all the cash off of day passes and food and booze. If your local hill doesn't make increases to ski passes annually they probably do it every two years, and quite frankly if you study inflation in your area I am willing to bet that season passes cost less now, relatively than 10 or 20 years ago. Where I live they certainly do.

Being Canadian has its benefits, skiing is one of the few cheaper things we can do here vs the states as far as season passes are concerned.

As for El Ninio, we will see. Isn't this an El Ninia year? Either way, we will get more snow this year than last. So I guess it sucks to be you if you can't afford your pass.

ha should've bought during earlybird prices.

they're still retardedly expensive though. im not looking forward to having to buy my own next year.

I just hope they still run the red chair till 5 in the spring.
