Hey i live in aus and was thinking about doing a season in Chile as they have the same season as us. Wondering if anyone knows much about skiing in Chile and if so which are the best resorts there and which have the best free ski community.

the best are calling the 3 valles or something like that....is valle nevado, colorado and parva...they are in the same mountain

chile has some Extremely good terrain for pow, in Valle nevado, colorado and La Parva, and a good terrain park as well, but it´s mucho more expensive than Argentina, u can ski Catedral that´s in bariloche and u have Bayo, chapelco and La Hoya in a 4 hour radio driving... also bariloche is a big town so u have good things to do if the weather doesn´t help... las leñas and penitentes are sick for pow but are a bit more expensive... and u only go there for skiing there´s no town or whatsoever...

catedral has an ok park... nothing compared to usa, but with nice snow it one of my favourite places to ski...

Farellones (La Parva, Valle Nevado, and La Parva) is your best bet if you're trying to spend the season there. I'm still crossing my fingers on being able to spend the season working in Portillo. I have to say though that overall, Portillo is the best resort in Chile. No terrain park at all but the best powder days of your life.

ask me anything you wish to know. im chilean so yeah, ask me :D and skiing in chile can be really dope, great pow and ok parks

I also want to be doing a season as an instructor.. if that changes anything. but also want a resort where i can really test myself and improve my park skills. so far Farellones sounds amazing.

Your main issue is going to be getting a job as a foreigner in Chile, Argentina, really anywhere in South America. It doesnt operate the same way down there. If you have any questions, let me know...
...my signature should explain it. ;-)

ok so i want t spend a season in chile, i first thought that do it as a ski insrtuctor but i dont mind if it just in a bar or retail or what ever. also im pretty sure i want to spend my season at De Colorado as those resorts sounds like the best in chile. and more help/ advice would be great!

Apparently you haven't been to Las Lenas

I was there for a week in September for the second time. It's pretty cool but the terrain isn't even in the same league as Las Lenas.

yeah because that is from valle navado but colorado has the best snowpark in south america and ist near fromk valle nevado

yeah only the steeps are better at Las Lenas, Valle Nevado is In most ways especially lifts, hotels and def park. Las Lenas is only the best when the Marte is abierto and thats not too often.

Who stays at hotels? Private accommodations are the way to go. Lenas is great, IF the Marte is open (it's almost never actually open though). Your best bet in South America is to hang out in one spot for a while waiting for the snow. When you start rolling all over the place, you end up missing storms or rolling up to a spot and finding everything closed because of wind or high avy danger.
Its not like up here. If theres a huge storm, they dont really bomb...they'll just wait until it settles then open. Or, they'll just open and leave it up to the people riding to discern safety. If you weren't going with a guided group, I would at the very least want to have an Avy 1 with some extensive real world experience.
I'll put it this way to you. In a slide a few years back, half the searching patrollers forgot to turn their beacons to search to look for buried victims. Do you trust your life to avy control done by patrollers like that? Go with someone who knows.
