Search bar

i use it all the time. why make it smaller? the mods are trying to promote using it more so that people dont make threads like this on that was made 100 times before.
 
no leave it the way it is, or make it even bigger. not as many people use it as they should
 
cant they make it so if finds more that 50 things, make it like google UNLimited results ex

I love the big one, why would you want it smaller? it's mad fun typing stuff into it, people should try it more often.
 
Im pretty sure there is some work being done by paul on the searching capibilites.

We'll see i guess.

As for the size...i dont even notice it.
 
2 Things...

(1) Yeah, the search bar looks hideous. It's like "Welcome to our website!! WE HAVE A SEARCH FEATURE!!!!!!"

(2) 50 Results is pretty lame... Why can't you bring back 50 results at a time and allow the user to page as far back as they want to? It shouldn't stress the database that much more if you do it that way. Just don't bring back ALL results at once and only display the top 50... If you do them in separate queries it shouldn't have much of an effect.

I've had plenty of times where I was trying to find a user with a popular word in their member name and I had no luck whatsoever.

Did you write the search algorithm from scratch? Or did you get it somewhere else?
 
oh im not complaining, I know the kinda work it takes to make a website run, you wont here me complaining about the site itself, from time to time I will complaine about some of the 12 year old members tho................
 
It's just an astetic issue. Why just putting it just beside the Logout link under "Site Clothing | GearSwap | Stickers". It's so big, maybe people are thinking sometimes really fast it's part of the header. Search bar bigger than the logo ? Never seen that before.

And I don't think putting a search bar that big will encourage people for searching.
 
it's cuz people never use it, it's a friggin website does it really bother you that it isn't nice looking? is having the top of the page look like what you're used to more important than having it functional? maybe some day when people never make threads that aren't necessary we wont need a massive search bar, but that day will not come in our lifetimes so dont worry about it. like 99% of the time you can't even see it if you're doin on shit cuz once you scroll down with one click of the mouse wheel it's out of sight.
 
To all the admins in here : It's exactly for that reason I don't come here as much has I did before. Look at this last answer, and it describes very much the kind of people I don't like to meet in those community places.

This thread is about the site, comments and suggestions. I made a comment, thats all. No comments are bad, you have to take then and do whatever you want. If you're not happy about it, just don't say anything. I made a point that I believe was important. If people aren't using it, maybe it doesn't need to be has big. The general layout of a site describes it's quality and it's credibility. Everything needs be good looking and even more when it's your medium or exposure!

Anyways, I don't really care if you change it or not, I just wanted to give my opinion if it's not too much a bad thing !@#
