wow, what a road trip. Seans car has come and gone, and so has its twin. Well, kinda.
Problems started a month ago, when my car suddenly overheated on the way back from a party. It had been in the shop a week before and had some routine maintinence, so i figured it had something to do with that. We eventually got it home, and when i looked at it the next morning, all the coolant was gone and there was a puddle under the car. So i go and stick my head under and find that the drain screw (made of plastic, gotta love subaru) has snapped off halfway inside, and is leaking like crazy. Using a lot of water and two cars we take it down to the shop the next day to have the screw replaced and drilled out.
So, i get the car back the next day. I drive it in to work. It overheats in redmond. Same problem. Once again, using two cars, we struggle to get the car back to Duvall from novelty hill. It takes about 2 hours to make the normally 15 minute trip because the car heats up so fast. The mechanic says hes going to take another look at it.
4 days later. Mechanic says he's put a new thermometer on it, which fixed it (car ran 30 minutes fine according to him). I pick it up, drive home. It overheats on my driveway. Now im starting to get pissed. The whole thing has seriously fucked my work schedule and i've wasted 4 complete days on the car that i could have been at work. We once again roll the car back to the shop. Using two cars. and 6 gallons of water. the thing leaks like Kevin during a chick flick.
Mechanic says he'll take another look at it. A day later, i get a call from my dad. The mechanic says he wants to get the FUCKING PISTONS RE-BORED. My dad wants to go ahead and do this (because he wants my sister to drive it after im done). Mechanic goes ahead and also replaces the water pump, spark plugs, belts and some coolant lines. its been two weeks now since the car first broke down. My trip to california in it has to be made instead in my girlfriends two seater Tacoma.
Finally, get back from San Fran. Pick up the car. Drive it. Alls good. Get to enjoy it for two more weeks, then i move to seattle and lose the car. but thats life.
