Seans Car

ok, here they be. this is another one of my bigger mods. This will lower my front end about an inch, to even it out with the back. The springs are much stiffer, as are the struts. So I will have even LESS body roll (after the already installed monster sway bar) and it will fly like its on rails..... but these springs are temporary (probably a year) until I can get my hands on some prodrives or eibachs.... but here they be...

anybody know of any good alignment shops?

I've got recommendations for Europa on Bel-Red road, and also Speedware Motorsports in Redmond. I've gonna have to have an alignment obviously once I put these guys in, and I really don't want to drive very far on un aligned struts.... seem dangerous.

oh its really not that dangerous

try keeping all the screws you remove in a tin can, that way, you can keep track of them.

Snowboarding Is For Little Fat Kids

it does indeed! I'll take some pics of it installed when I get home today...

It is a front strut tower bar. The struts are bolted to the body of the car at the strut towers in the engine bay (many cars, small cars, are similar). If you look in the engine bay, on either side towards the firewall, there are the strut towers.

This bolts on top of them, with the bar going between them. Under hard cornering, the chassis can actually flex quite a bit, flexing inwards. This bar re-enforces them, and prevents them from doing that.

The result is that the car has much better turn-in, and just a more solid feel.

I just put it on last night before I went to work, so I haven't really had a chance to test it out yet, but I took it pretty hard into the park & ride this morning, and it felt fantastic! Just dove right in to the turn.

It seems like I kind of lost a little bit of my oversteer with the new struts/springs, feels much more solid, but the oversteer is gone, it was more nuetral. Now it seems as though under hard cornering, the strut bar brings back that oversteer making it oh so tasty.

(oversteer just means that the back end of the car wants to slide out, so when you turn the wheel, the car over-turns kind of, not in a bad way, it just really grabs the turn)

I think I officially have a go-kart ride now, although it still needs stiffer/lower springs, its pretty close to a go-kart now!

best weekend of my life by far....

subaru cruise with just around 40 cars. it was basically hours of very very twisty roads.

mostly consisting of 15-20mph turns, keeping a good 80 most of the way! I was 6th in line in my little L, and I was holding just fine with the big boys. Tires were singing near the end though, went sideways on a few too, haha.

It was nice cause we all had radios (thanks again kevin) so we were passing like crazy. Like crazy twisty road, double yellow line, and dave on the radio going 'still clear, still clear, still clear...' so we'd all swarm around the slow car. Had the sherriff show up when we were parked by a beach...

'We had a few reports of cars weaving in and out of traffic'... sorry officer, don't know what your talking about, haha.

Our hotel sucked, the fire alarm went off while cindy was in the shower... hahahaha. yeah, real ghetto.

I even let cindy drive my car a bit on the beach (only stick she's ever driven was my car once in a parking lot, haha). She had some real nice drifts going! She's a natural!

Here's a few pics, sorry they suck, shrunk them down to save on upload time.... (oh, and there's a picture of my strut bar on the end for christine!)

no, no evos. There was one black dodge srt-4 though (shudder... I know they're fast, and handle like butter... but jesus, its still a neon!)

also, there was a guy in a red VW GTI that was CRAZY. like, passing at 130 while another car is right in the other lane. kinda scary a few times, but he took some great shots (see the 'make fun of me' thread, those were his shots)

haha, yep. most cars have speed limiters on them. I don't think mine does, but I'd never want to find out.

that guy in the GTI had his car sideways a few times.... its FWD mind you, he was nuts.

check engine light, oh what the fuck is this....

other than that, the car is sooooo sweet right now. When its cold, its sounds incredible, just soo mean. When it gets hot, its a little loud for me. I'm getting used to it, but its still pretty fucking loud.

but so I got on a long road trip to pullman, 300 miles or so one way... as i'm fucking PULLING IN TO MY DRIVEWAY today, check engine light comes on. Shiiiit. Not from the axleback though, that can't do anything.

A little overdue for my 60k, maybe somethings up...

Well, it looks like I'm getting another car...

My grandpa has had this forever, but hasn't driven it in quite a long time. He know's I've been in love with it since I was a baby, and so he called us this morning to tell me its mine.

The only thing, is that he lives in Parker, Arizona (on the Colorado River) so we've got to figure out a way of getting it up here. We could rent a U-Haul, or a flat bed truck, but that would be pretty pricey. We're thinking of just getting a pickup truck and towing it, since it has a tow thingy on the front.

So what is it you ask?

!!!!!!!DUNE BUGGY!!!!!!!

Volkswagen chassis and engine, with a fiberglass sand buggy body. HUGE ass wheels, chrome roll bar, HUGE chrome exhaust pipes (two of em, sticking way up in the air!) I've never driven it, but I know its a zip! And to top it all off, its got an aooga horn on it!

I don't have any pictures of the actual car, but here is EXACTLY what it looks like (it is currently baby blue, but we will probably re paint it... not sure on the color yet, any ideas? Dark blue, with a pearl kinda thing?)

This are a few pictures I found online, it's identical to these:

69_1_sb.JPG

As I said, its baby blue, but we'll probably be painting it. Everything that can be chrome is chrome. Chrome roll bar, lights, exhaust, wheels, steering wheel. The mufflers are cherry bombs I'm pretty sure! Body is perfect (its fiberglass). Engine runs ok, he said the starter needs a new solinoid, cause it keeps sticking on, haha. But overall, it should need very little work. Just simple stuff.

My mom is going to completely re-do the upholstry on the seats. Probably a two-tone scheme of maybe creme and light smokey baby blue. Of course, I will probably put a big K&N filter on there, maybe some new gauges. Diamond plating for under the feet? Hahaha, no.

But anyhoo, should keep me busy this summer. If I can just get it up here.... that's the hard part.

--------------------------------

Dont worry, its a controlled slide.

I forgot to say. My grandpa is a HARDCORE pack-rat, and would never EVER give anything of his away. So its kind of a big deal that he's giving me the buggy. He currently has cancer, and isn't fairing to well with that. He's also closing down his shop (he repairs office machines, like cash registers and typewriters) which is really wierd cause he's worked all his life. I'm going down in a few weeks to help close it all down. But it kinda feels like we're closing down his life or something, I don't know its kind of strange.

hey sean should i take my suby from this:

Now a turbo wagon would be sick(even tho the 2.5 i guess isn't built for anything over 240hp) But that spoiler is the hotest thing since ski boards

I think the obvious answer is YES!!! haha, that car is pretty slick. I don't know, all the body pieces aren't TOO bad (the spoiler's got to go though, you're right on that).

Is that outback yours? Looks pretty fucking nice! My mom's got a white 96 (first year of the outback).

Ok, so back to my car....

well, you know all those fuel additive stuff you can buy for various things? Well, aparently they're not a bunch of hooey, and they do work.

Got some stuff that aparently cleans the valves and fuel system, fucking check engine light is GONE. Now I don't want to jinx it, cause it would go off before, but only for like 5-10 minutes. Driving the car hard (always) on the freeway would always bring it right back. But its been gone for just over 70 miles now. Pretty god damn good. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed its gone for good, cause that was gonna set me back at LEAST a grand to fix (and that is the MINIMUM if I was lucky). Pulls a little better too.

Baby finally got over her cold, just needed some robatussin.

--------------------------------

Dont worry, its a controlled slide.

what kind did you use sean? you should try the redline stuff that they have at B&B they don't carry it at schmucks, i don't know if they have it at napa though. and you were making fun of me when i put it in my 4Runner on the way over to pullmanistan. bitch!

/\ i used those in my truck alot and i noticed a big change. but yeah the body kits i can get for it are ok but not going that way only thing i'm doing in way of body is a new grill (simmalar to the one on the blue car) and the eyebrows that are on the blue car. the rest of it will go under the hood, really disapointed on power almost want to get a loan for the 6 or an STi. haha

.:l[Tyler]l:.

you know what would be slick, I've never seen this. Is paint all of the two tone stuff (the silver on the bottom) the car color... in your case white. That would look SOOO sick!!!! Cause I LOVE the sideskirts on the outbacks, but it would look so much better in white! You gotta get some stiff springs and a HUGE sway bar though!!!!!

on another note, FUCK THE WORLD!!!!!!!

GOD DAMN CEL CAME BACK ON. I was at 90 miles without it, and it came back.

Kevin and Tyler, you guys can take your gas additives and EAT IT. Fucking god damn.

But I got a lot done on the buggy today, the engine is like stripped down, and the intake manifold is SEEEEXY (its just white now, instead of the OEM stock RUST AND GUNK AND GRIME)
