^ ah yea... No shit he will be better then me when he is 17, he is skiing in the prime conditions. He is being noticed by pros and will be skiing with them. Hell i have been freeskiing for a year and half now and wouldnt be anywere if i didnt ski with the kids i do now. It all comes down to where you ski and who you ski with, yea being metaly stong and haveing a can do attatued is also a factor but not that big of one. I dont give a shit if he is better then me, i was just saying that for where he skis HE ISNT AS GOOD AS YOU ALL MAKE HIM OUT TO BE. I was saying that if he came to where i leanred all my shit he would never be heard of. It kinda makes me mad that me and my firends will only beable to go so far in the industry inless we move out west in a year or so. With ski acdmey kids, people skiing all year round there is a slim chance that we will get are names in mags or in shit like that. MY anger about this is bascily going as far as the internet i couldnt give a shit about other people when i actuly get to ski in a few months. but misty7..its about how good you are not how good you could be. people will watch him rip for years to come becuase he is nasty. it doesnt matter how he got there. yeah maybe you or me could have been the next tanner if we had been skiing prime conditions long enough but we havent, and thats just our bad luck. but im still going to watch SP kill it and think he is good.

sean and callum petit are just more fortunate that they can ski at places like whistler all the time, meaning they are probably getting noticed more....Dont forget though, that there a still many known eastcoast rippers.

there are many unknown east coast riders, but guess what they're getting the attention now too. look at richie paradise. don't start this east coast i don't get attention bullshit.

enter in competitions around here at Snow or the EC Open at Okemo. If you're as good as you say you are compared to others then you'll do well and then guess what happens...you get more attention from companies, filmers, & photographers.

I can name a bunch of guys that ride at Snow...they're not totally unknown because they enter competitions and tear it up.

and sean petit isn't as good as people are making him out to be? i was at the us open. i saw him throwing various corks with grabs. REAL CORKS. not slightly off axis. i saw him spinning 7's in the pipe a good 8-10 out. give the kid the credit he is due. whining bitches.

^ of course he isnt BAD, the kid is amazing but I've said it about Kye and I'll say it about Sean-give a kid who has a passion about skiing thats just the same age as sean the lifestyle, geograpical convenience, dedication and connections and you will get another sean petit. I know it could happen to anyone. The kid is just in the right pplace at the right time and for sure hes lucky as fuck. That's just the way life is. Its in all aspects too I mean how do you think Ashlee Simpson is popular? Cause of her singing? hahahah fuck no I mean she throws out some nice tunes but its def cause of her sister. I say this boldly and truthfully but if I were in the same position as Sean Petit living in whislter and skiing whistler I think I could be just as good as him if not better and same goes for a lot of other people. Same with Misty7 I think he could be just as good if not better. And to whoever said east coast isnt gettin that much attention: there is no way east coast gets NEARLY as much attention as West Coast ok your saying richie paradise is gettin attention well thats one guy.......and he rips but he freakin won so many comps to get it. All that I have to say is this. after talking to iberg today about sean and kye's seg in wski, EVERYBODY who skis will be very impressed with their segment. I personaly can't wait to see it. the kids rock it hard.

alot comes down to luck, but saying its mostly where you ski, and who you ski with is sooo wrong. Same with saying there 'gifted'. In my eyed its mostly drive. If you have the drive you will end up where you want to be. And if you dont have it you wont want to even push yourself on the hill nomatter where you are.

^yea....the park is on a wind tunnel and the wind is blowing like 10mph on the CALMEST DAYS.....its usually like 30mph winds on the cold days. hell its been -25 and then 40mph winds there this season....so thats like -70 windchill. but thats off topic

^^^^to airic...your right man, its about kids that are gifted, and sean is definatley one. Hell he can skate better than most 20 yearolds hitting almost every gap in the skatepark too. And to vouch if this kid can ski or not, i took him down some permanent closure last year, some real gnar shit where i was even hesitant about the turns i was making... after i dropped he skied the line as confidant and strong as a IFSA tour skier. I'll even say this kid is better than me. His technique, stance, style and skiing posture is so dialed in...his mom is a level 3 Ski instructor so she has passed the goods on to him...and hes from quebec originally so yes he can ski ice. But living in whistler and having the primo terrain and features and just overall high level of talent around to encourage and guide him, that is a big reason why kids flourish out here...my first year out here 5 years ago, I improved tenfold over my last year at my home mountain.

Hes also sporting the ads for keystone because he went to the mini xgames this year at keystone and blew away the competition. He was also voted most valuable athlete by the athletes or something like that. Like I said before...this kid is the real deal...and im not trying to talk him up.

Then why isn't there another one here in Whistler? All the local kids here (and there are thousands,) with parents who work and have connections in the industry have the same opportunities as him, hell they even get Monday's off school so they can ski 3 days a week, and there isn't another one like him. He's a wicked good skier, that's all there is to it.

And to Misty: I've seen him ski when the park's in icy condition here. He'll throw anything and land it.

another thing that should be mentioned is the fact that skiing is progressing at such a rate that there are 'no name' jibbers who totally rip at virtually every mountain now, just look at the quality of all the myriad of independant films this year and how many more there are each season. Despite the fact that there are so many more kids who rip each year and the ever growing world of professional freeriding, there is only so much room for up and coming riders to make a name for themselves, and for them to do so in the face of such remarkable competition they must stand out in one way or another. While those who are in the spotlight may have had an advantage here or there make no mistake, they have worked very hard to get where they are and they will have to continue to work hard or else they will be replaced.

misty7 has a point. I know how u feel with the whole icy landings and little kids, and im sure alot more people on the site do. SP is nasty, but he's really lucky he grew up where he did. I ski at a little hill in nothern maine. If a rep ever comes up here i would be shocked, but he'd find some decent tallent. But then again there are places all over the world just full of freestyle skiers that try and try and still can't get noticed. Thats just how the world works i guess
