Anyone here a certified diver? ive been diving a few times before and its amazing i would like to get certified over the summer and i was just wondering what the test was like to get certified
 
I'm certified Open Water. It's not just a test, it's a class you take over the course of a few weeks. half of the class is classroom and video instruction and the second half is pool diving. The test at the end of the course is a multiple choice written test. The diving portion of the test requires 4 open water dives with an instructor (2 dives (1 tank used=1 dive) per day). In the water you have to show technical proficiency with the equipment as well as navigation and trouble shooting (clearing a flooded mask, losing a mask, buddy breathing, using the 2nd octopus, etc...)

it depends on what agency you were certified with, but most don't expire. padi's ow cert is for life. if you haven't dover for over 2 years though most shops offer a refresher course.

i work in a dive shop in colorado of all places. diving is fantastic. definately an industry i could get into in the future. i just wish i could travel more often.
 
Thats sort of what I meant. I have a PADI open water cert. Anymore, I would rather surf or lounge on the beach.
 
do the thing where you make pressure in your head to clear out that bad feeling-then you can stay down for a long time
 
Im an advanced open water diver, that means, I can dive with a drysuit, and do deep dives.

The course is pretty easy, a druggy past the course. all it is is understand the dangers and knowing without panic what to do.
 
i have taken the test for a temporary slip and thats it but my friends dad is an expert diver and my dad is also certified one of the things they told me was taking off ur vest under water and putting it back on i was just wondering what else there was to do thanx
 
I'm PADI certified, and it doesn't expire. One day I'd like to get my advanced open water, but I don't have the time for it.
 
how much $ does it cost to become certified im sur ethere r diff prices for places but what is an average so i no what to start saving
 
at our place it's $155 for the class and pool plus more $65 for the materials. the four checkout dives vary depending on where you go. usually it's around another $200-250. it's one of the most expenisve sports to get into. a lot similar to skiing price-wise. but nobody cares how you look while you're doing it of if you have the newest gear. i'd actually consider it more of a hobby. a really, really sweet hobby.
 
yup its sick, and the water over here is cold as all hell, (Vancouver Island/gulf Islands) but its worth it, i have a great time doing it, unfortunatly i live in Alberta, kinda landlocked
 
any of you guys do freediving? just swim down as deep as you can and come back up. I tried yesterday and pulled up sand at 22ft. My ears were shot tho, i need to learn to equalize them better.
 
yeah im from calgary, i did the course there and then did my open water cert in mexico. My dad has a bunch of advanced certifications and goes diving out near banff and on the west coast...i get so cold tho i don't know if i would be able to do it without a dry suit, i usually end up wearing 2 wet suits even diving in mexico, hehe. there is actually apparently quite a bit of good diving in alberta tho...there's a whole town at the bottom of lake minnewanka (sp?) that got flooded when they were doing something with dams a long time ago, its supposed to be pretty sick.
 
scuba diving is so fun but when i went the scuba instructor said it was ok that i was sick and then a couple days later i found out i blew up blood vessels in my ears. so my advice is dont go when you are sick
 
haha.

you can get actually get a jr. cert from padi when you're 10, scary as that is. i don't know any 10 year old i'd trust diving.
