Screws Vs. Bolts

my dad is yelling at my to use bolts instead of screws, but i was wondering how could you use bolts, to connect wood when there's no end for it to stick out of to connect? apparently there's some special bolt, but i'm just thinking using nails works the same, that's what i've seen on everyone elses. send me some feed back....

just use screws. Same idea as a bolt. they screw in, and can be unscrewed, just alot easier. Nails can come out too easy. dont do that

He's talking about a lag bolt i betI use those and they are pretty much big ass screws, but i would listen to him and use the lag bolts because they will make your rails a lot sturdier and you don't have to worry about a loose/ broken screw.

we started building today, and we used regular bolts, stick them through and put a nut on the other side, but it does seem to be really sturdy, i'm thinking also use some screws as back up and for smaller areas that require less stress

no bolts, but definitely use lag screws with washers. (make the lag screws 1/2 inch. They cost a bunch but if you only need like 10-20 it would be worth it. Otherwise the wood might do crazy shit on you. Its better to have a legit setup and pay like $10 more than a shitty setup.

get some timber locks. They are in bwtween a bolt and a screw. Really strong and easy to put in and you can get them up to 10" long.
