Screw it, I'm going to Japan.

Well NS, I think we have all heard about what a dismal start to the season it has been for a good portion of the country, especially us here in New England. I'm not one to sit around and wallow in a negative situation, and yesterday I was given the opportunity to go work in Japan for 2 months starting in February. It has been a dream of mine to get out there since I was super young, and I am so stoked this is really happening. I'll be working right down the road from Hakuba47 so if any other NS'ers are over there get in touch! Otherwise I hope everyone else has a great season, I'll most likely be posting some videos in a documentary style while I am over there so look out for those. If anyone has any advice from previous trips to Japan or anything at all I would love to hear it, I have never been there so it's a whole new world to me.

Wow dude...my flight is being paid for but I will send this link to my boss out there to see if he purchased it yet. Thank you!!

sounds like you're already set with dates but if you can get there earlier it tends to dump the most starting in early january, february will still be good but january is the safest bet

Wow, that's awesome man. 2 months in the winter seems like a perfect time. Not too long so that it's an enormous commitment, but too short in that you will definitely have time to do stuff. Good luck, shred some pow for me.

Don't bother wearing condoms. Std's are like unheard of over there. Raw dog away brother. Shred some pow

So stoked for you dude! Hope you have fun up there. I'm going to ski there just 6 days from now. May I ask what you're gonna be working as and any tips for getting a similar opportunity?

Awesome man! Same to you, enjoy it! For me I am lucky in the sense that I am a graphic designer and I am able to get a lot of freelance work. A buddy of mine knows a guy who owns a B&B type lodge at Hakuba47 and I'm building him a website, doing video work and any design work they'll need as well as helping out around the lodge if needed.

Since I pretty much got lucky I really can't offer any tips for finding work unfortunately. I actually tried to get a job at a ski shop months ago and got denied instantly pretty much so it seems to be pretty hard to find a job out there unless you know someone who can hook you up or have previous working experience there.

Been itching to go to Japan since watching the segments in After the Sky Falls, looks like a completely different experience

Whatever you do, make sure you get some canned hot lattes the vending machines. As the temperature levels suggest, they are, in fact, fire.

Hahaha great tip I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for those!

Also I'm pretty sure Hakuba has gotten around three feet in the past three days and it is still snowing so they hype is real

You are here? Feel free to message me if you want to meet up for a beer or something! I'll probably be working tomorrow so I don't think I'll be able to ride

I went up today, and was actually surprised at how some icy sections were. Definitely not the fabled deep Japow conditions... did get a few good turns down in the banks though. I'll probably stick to park laps until/if it snows again

Well it is the lowest recorded snow year for them in some time, it's not as deep as it is normally but it still was good yesterday with the 10+cm they did get. Also, the fabled deep japow conditions are never in bounds in a resort haha you'll have to work for that stuff man

Indeed, it is a low snow year around here. Still, some good stuff to be found around the area. I've seen some edits up in Niseko, and it's looking pretty solid over there these days

Hokkaido is a whole different beast man, Hakuba is dope but if you wanted constant deep days Hokkaido would have been the safer bet probably. I'm still having a blast out here and today is bluebird so I'm stoked to get out!

No doubt, maybe next season. Today was really sick, as you mentioned nothing beats sunny park laps. Looking good for the next while too

It is supposed to snow pretty hard tomorrow (30+ cm forecast) but then looks like rain a few days after that followed by some more heavy snow the following days. Around the 15th I'm taking a backcountry trip at Cortina with my boss and the rest of the staff, I'm stoked!
