Scratched bases on my skis.

we are not getting hardly any snow at all and I have been skiing plenty. The bases on my skis have scratches and rut things but I am pretty sure only one gouge actually penetrates the clear and goes into the ski. I actually got it the first day and I haven't gotten it fixed yet. It isn't a long scratch it is like where my ski came right down on top of a rock. I am saving for new skis and will need to sell these for the money for new ones. Disappointing because I got a base grind and wax right before the season. What should I do to get my bases just at least so I can sell the skis and how much will it probably cost?? I know I have one coreshot but there may be others that went all the way through.Peace Merry Christmas.
 
Your local shop can fill in your bases and repair them. Base repair tends to cost $10-20 per base shot plus a base grind ($20) at the end.
 
1. buy ptex2. melt p-tex onto gash like wax

3. im pretty sure you can just scrape off the excess

4. wax over your entire ski

also, don't inhale the fumes cause its really bad apparently. check out transworld snowboarding's site cause they have a bunch of tutorials and thats how i learned it
 
This. Just do it yourself. The scrapes are whatever, but you'll wanna get the coreshots fixed. Utah has sucked so far this season but the only silver lining is that all the shots I've been taking made it necessary for me to learn how to fix my own bases. A ptex stick is $1 at my local shop.

First- take sharp scissors or a knife and remove any fragments that may be hanging out/dragging/etc.

Then you drip the ptex into the hole, let it settle, may need to drip more in as the first layer fills in (you'd be surprised how much ptex it takes to fill even a small shot). Once its filled in, just take a wax scraper and shave off the excess until the surface is even. Apply wax on top of the skis like normal, and you're good to go.
 
Ptex is a good option but you will want to get your bases ground and stone ground every once in a while. Ptex will not fix raised areas of baes and will not even out your bases. Repairs will also be flat with no structure. So overall yes use ptex to fill scrapes but also go get your bases ground now and again, it makes the skis run so fast.
