Scotchguard

Yeah man, 3M scotchguard is great. A lot of materials lose their integrity of water repellency after a season or so. It helps to tighten them up a little bit. Also, you can spray it on a sweatshirt for the spring and it helps a lot...Good stuff.

im gonna bump this cus i have the same question, also does it mess up colors?

and is it the kind of thing that makes it so water just rolls off of it

Ive never had it mess up colors, depending on the brand of waterproofing sometimes i can smell really raunchy and the smell will stick for a while. Other than that the stuff works great in general.

It depends what your putting it on, what its original waterproofing is, the material, and the quality of the spray/gel. If its leather there is actual leather waterproofing that helps with that. Most of the stuff i have used has stiffened the fabric a little initialy, other than that and smell thats all i have noticed. And the obvious increased waterproofing.

they make washes for puffy's that improve water resistance. i used it in the middle of last season and it definately worked well. nicwax or something?

basically, most jackets have a water repellant dwr (durable water repellant) coating. the spray on and wash-in dwr coatings simply revive and repair the original coating as it begins to wear off. scotchguard works fine, but i prefer sprays that are more specifically designed for outerwear such as tectron and revivex. the nikwax wash-in stuff works fine too.
