Hate to nitpick but let me get this straight... your reasoning is that military technology saves lives by trying not to kill too many innocent bystanders?

"Minimizing collateral damage" doesn't strike me as saving lives. Reducing the number of people being killed, yes, but you're still killing innocent people, not saving them. By that logic I'm saving your life as we speak by not shooting you in the face right now. Thank god for my advanced military technology.

I agree with that, although I think there is some limited extent to which the creation and promulgation of new weaponry facilitates a tendency to use it... in America's case more weapons than necessary are really designed and produced not for the safety of innocents or even the soldiers but to satisfy the needs of the M-I complex. The Washington-Military-Military Development Industry triangle is extremely active and self sufficient which is why you get production of F22 jets that the navy says they neither need or want costing billions in taxpayer dollars... but hey, the industry needs the money to grow and provide jobs, the military needs the weapons to increase their own strength, and congressmen need the support of working people with steady jobs and an appearance of commitment to industry and defense to get re-elected. The system works... ?

 
Yeah seems like a vicious cycle, I just see one of some of the most technological progression coming from military weaponary. They really are creating some neat stuff that spills over into everyday life. Nuclear energy for example, as well as submarines making it possible to explore the deep ocean. Tons of different composites, rocket technology, internet, just lots of everyday shit is spillover more military technology. We do spend an incredible amount of money in this country on military R&D but I really do feel this technology minimizes death in conflict.

I don't think anyone is worshipping, I just don't think it's something to hide from. People die constantly, you will die sometime, its the only real certainty in life. Yeah it sucks but I find we pretend it doesn't exist as a society. It's the reality of life, no one wants to see it, talk about it,exc. But no one minds listening to it everynight on the news. As if knowing someone died and seeing them are two completely different concepts, when they really arn't. I'm on lots of opiates sorry for rambling

Fucking morbid. The fact that people will tape shit like that makes me quesy. We should never have gone into Iraq in the first place, and now we are crowing about a "score for the good guys". Those guys they killed had families too, they are stuggling in a cause as well. If the dipshits that run their country had not decided to go to war ( war was never actually declared, mind you), none of this shit would have gone down. I have lost all hope for humanity.

Yeah I don't "want" to die tommarow, but I am willing too. I have it so good, in 22 years I have experienced more than most will in a lifetime. The fact that I was able to live this long and this well is sufficent. If I die tommarow I will die with very few regrets. I'm not suicidal by any means but I don't hide from death either. Many people avoid certain activities their entire lives trying to make it for 80+ years. I personally would rather live 25 incredible years than 80 medicore years lived in fear of dying, which is inevitable anyway. I guess I'm a quality over quantity kind of guy.

But... I also plan for the future, I've invested a lot of time and effort into my future. Most people tell me I'm gonna die sooner or later due to the stupid shit I do. I had a bad acid trip about 4 or 5 years ago, ever since then I had bad anxiety problems and fear of dying. Irrational all the time fear of dying. The only way I came to grips with that is take it to the edge, skiing has been incredibly therapuetic for me. The more I "test" my mortality the less I fear it. In the last year I've found the only way I can be happy is by fully letting go of my fears and my attachment to life. I have been much happier ever since.

well im not gonna hide from certain activetys like if i coud do base jumping i would but im also not gonna take part in such activitys as blowing people up i think theres a big line between those two and i for one never want to cross it for me its not the fear of pain but the fear of not getting to do as many exciting things in my life and be with my faimly that i am scared of/am not ready to loose at this juncture in my life

Ice i totally agree with everything. I have friends and fam in the Armed Services and Civil Services. The technology we have no does in fact save lives. Some people just dont see it that way. And personally I think it is "Score one for the Good Guys" because it is.

heres the real issue: whether the war is justified is irrelevant, the fact remains that weve got our soldiers over there and the only choice we have is to support them. it wasnt their choice to be shipped out, and the fact that they are fighting this war for everybody over here is something that deserves nothing but praise. as far as the sniper pic goes, whether that fucker had a family or not, he was still about to blow the shit out of himself and probably a bunch of other innocent bystanders who also have families, so that logic is flawed. if someone hands me a gun and tells me to shoot that guy before he kills himself and a bunch ofothers, you better believe im going to pull that trigger.
