What the FUCK is the point of this?? Well done, Israeli scientists, in creating something completely useless.

Israeli scientists have cultivated a cannabis plant that doesn't get people stoned in a development that may help those smoking marijuana for medical purposes, a newspaper said on Wednesday.

According to the Maariv daily, the new cannabis looks, smells and even tastes the same, but does not induce any of the feelings normally associated with smoking marijuana that are brought on by the substance THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol.

"It has the same scent, shape and taste as the original plant -- it's all the same -- but the numbing sensation that users are accustomed to has disappeared," said Tzahi Klein, head of development atTikkun Olam, the firm that developed the species.

"Many of our patients who tried the new plant come back to us and say: 'You tricked me,'" because they assumed they had been given a placebo, he said.

According to Maariv, Tikkun Olam sought to neutralise the effect of the THC and to increase the effect of another substance called CBD, or cannabidiol, which has been shown to help diabetics and to ease various psychiatric disorders.

Not only does it leave users stone-cold sober, it also doesn't induce the munchies, the hunger pangs that the drug's smokers generally suffer.

Despite the innovation, it is unlikely to have any impact on Israeli law, which outlaws the use of marijuana as illegal except for medical purposes.

According to figures published earlier this year by Sheba Medical Centre and the Israel Cancer Association, medical marijuana has been approved for use by about 6,000 Israelis suffering from various illnesses.
 
I have no idea why they put all this time into making cannabis that doesn't provide a high, they were wasting their time. I can do the same thing by walking out to my backyard, picking a shit ton of grass, and stuffing it into a bowl and smoking it.

but there are already really high cbd/low thc strains for that
 
People on here are such imbeciles. Some users do use marijuana to subside pain, and this is a great alternative for those that don't want the high.
 
This. Did you even read the article before posting?

Not everyone who uses medical marijuana is stoked about feeling jah righteous. The high for some disrupts daily life and can interfere with things like work, relationships, etc. Grown ups have grown up problems and are a little more involved in what they call "real life" than us, sitting on an internet forum for skiing, of all things.
 
If it really is better than other strains for diabetics and people with psychiatric disorders then it's useful, but the THC itself has medicinal properties in itself if I'm not mistaken.

Who doesn't like the munchies, ... Would you describe them as "hunger pangs"? It may be different for other people but I don't personally feel like I'm more hungry when i have toked, it makes things seemingly taste better though in my opinion.

Hey everybody, educated smoker here , i know this might sound stupid, but THC (delta9-tetrahydrocanabonol) is not the only cannabanoid found in cannabis/marijuana, the substance CBD (Cannabidiol) has some effects too, and is the only other cannabanoid found in cannabis not in trace amounts. It is able to relieve pain and stress without causing you to loose motor skills. This is helpful in a medicinal sense because now people can medicate themselves without having to be high for 3-4 hours and can continue with their normal lives.

That is why they made this, not for you guys, its for arthritis patients and people with depression, not the average stoner.

There are many different canabanoids the most researched and well documented of which is thc. Check out bud with high cbd. Interesting stuff.
 
i thought cbd and other cannabinoids add to the high. I have heard cbd is a big part of body highs. If you just took out thc, you could still get high. Maybe they took out all cannabinoids that add to the high, but this would greatly take out most of the medial benefits i would think. This is a very good idea, but i thought cannabinoids are the main medical benefits from the plant, arent they?

i'm sure they do, and i'm not saying they are wrong. There are medical conditions that either need the actually high, or the actual thc. Cool they made fake weed, but probably most of the medical benefits that people seek are from the high/thc. People going through chemo get high to relieve the nausea, not for the 'medical benefits' from the plant. I could maybe see this being useful for some types medical conditions, but like i said there are conditions that directly rely on the thc/high. Just sayin'...

Ok I see what you're saying, it just seemed to me like you were going against what they were saying by saying "maybe they took out all the cannabinoids that add to the high but i think that might take out the medical benefits too" or something like that. It seems to me like they are saying maybe what you heard is wrong and CBD doesnt contribute to the high feeling you normally get but does provide the medical benefits.
 
The point of Medical cannabis is not to get you high. its to help prevent/ cure problems you have. Yeah this non-thc cannabis is fucking stupid, but smoking grass is alot different than smoking cbd,cbg, and all the other cannabinoids except for thc and the terpines.

oops totally didn't read the part about diabetics and other psychiatric disorders. Atleast they are working for new solutions and alternatives to mmj. I doubt this would ever "illegalize" mmj. The reason i don't think it would illegalize mmj is because people with disorders like multiple sclerosis need the actuall high for muscle relief. People with glacuoma need the actuall thc. Marijuana is a strange plant with a lot of medical benefits. I am glad they are working on solutions to help all patients. This would be very helpful for a few disorders. I may be wrong, but doesn't the cbd and other canabinoids add to the high? It says in the article how they are completely sober. I hope they don't completely try to get rid of mmj all together though. Some people think that we should just use JWH, or the spice chemical to completely replace mmj for people with disorders like chemo and MS. I didn't think anything like this could ever happen, but now that they have made a super weed to help the other patients that dont want to get high, i really could see something like this happen; a JWH takeover for the patients that need the high, and the fake weed for people that don't need the high. Kind of interesting and a little scary at the same time.
 
Not true. A lot of people use medical marijuana with the pure intention to get high. Like people trying to relieve MS muscle pain by getting high, or getting high to relieve nausea from chemo like i said earlier. There are lots of conditions that directly rely on the thc/ high, and this new super weed wont help those conditions.
 
My 70 year old teacher one day randomly passed out a sheet of paper comparing alcohol to pot. It turned out he had just been prescribed medical marijuana for his cancer. Everyone was very happy that he got medical marijuana. He said he doesn't understand how we like the feeling and smoking. I'm betting he got un-pleasantly stoned since he hadn't smoked before. Instead of smoking it he now gets these pills since he wasn't fond of smoking j's or the high so this stuff would benefit him.
Not sure why anyone would want to smoke anything with out getting high other then some people with illnesses. Even if i had cancer i would rather get super fire then bud that doesn't alter my state of mind.
 
why don't you just use anhy other dried up plants... kids will get convinced they're stoned out of their minds when they smoke fucking anything. i have a friend who had been selling dried basil to this random 8th grader for 2 months now...
 
seriously you will make better money by selling basil to dumb kids like this guy said. my friends used to sell vaped weed to 8th graders and the kids kept buying vaped weed for a while. My parents bought some dried enoki mushrooms that look a lot like shrooms and im about to rip some kids of $40 for an 1/8th of cooking mushrooms.
