Hey Newschoolers,

I'm doing a school project on skis and their durability. I have already taken some information and tallied up some votes but I was wondering if you guys had anything to say. If you have ever had a ski in the past that broke on you when it shouldn't have, please let me know what you think about that BRAND. I'm doing my project on ski brands not just a certain ski.

Are you writing about the opposite end of that spectrum? My 2012 Atomic Bent Chetlers are freakin' bullet proof. I've skied over dozens of rocks this season and the skis have barely sustained any damage- definitely not enough damage to warrant getting them tuned.
 
Salomons durability sucks ass as far as I know.

Amplid used to be pretty week and have the edges used to rip out. Problem may be solved now... I dont know

Armada, ON3P and Rossignol make some durable, high quality skis.
 
ur too stupid to come up with a project that you can hand in without being ridiculed... just stop ;)
 
The reason I chose this as my project is because I had a pair of rossignols that went to COMPLETE shit in just over a season. I asked people you had also had them in the past and they said they were awful. It may have just been the model because other than that I had heard good things in the past. Thanks for the feedback
 
And there is lies your problem with this project, durability is completely subjective to the owner of the ski. I've had skis that have broken in a month that others have had last them years, I've had skis that I can't break that others have had issues with..it all comes down to the owner, their skiing style, their treatment of their skis both on and off the hill (and pre-season prep/post-season storage), and even what they consider to be broken (some people will ski on skis with blown out edges and sidewalls and not think anything about it, I can't stand that so once the edges come out of the ski, I consider them pretty broken). You're either going to want to come up with a different project, or completely rethink your approach to gathering information (maybe a more in depth survey on a 3rd party site that you could link people too).
 
Exactly, you're dealing with both highly variable objects and highly variable users, let alone to mention that the user reports will be subjective and based off prior experience and trends. It would take a dedicated gear review website with a huge amount of user data to even attempt to establish some quantitative assessment of durability.
 
Saying a specific brand isn't durable, is a flawed argument.

Line Afterbangs are notorious for breaking. Line Motherships are indestructible. It's all in the construction.

It's like saying all Fords will catch on fire in an accident, because the Pinto had a rear-mounted gas tank that could be punctured and catch on fire in a rear-end collision.

 
Yeah unfortunately as has been pointed out its just far too subjective what your asking about. I have worked in the industry over 10 years and I have seen broken skis from every single brand. Does this mean every ski brand makes bad skis, of course not. All it shows is how ever well made a ski is someone will break it. As was pointed out above it really comes down to what people consider broken. We got skis in all the time that had been ridden over rocks and the kids would try to warranty them because there edge got pulled out by a rock. Obviously that is rider error but if you ask any of them they will tell you the ski sucked and other skis they had and rode over rocks did not do it. Unfortunately this means you will get no good data. Have a rethink and come back with new ideas and we can maybe advise if its a better way to go
 
all of these other people gave in depth explanations as to what my generalized comment mean't. I told you, but you just said "do a 9" which I have done before
