Schweitzer

So my buddy moved up to Idaho for 6 months just a few days ago and he lives about 30 minutes from Schweitzer. I wanna visit there and have heard only a little bit about Schweitzer. What kind of mountain is it? Park? backcountry? where should I go if there's pow? Also, what other resorts would you guys recommend that aren't too far? Whistler is also an option but how long is the drive in the middle of winter? Any help is greatly appreicated.

There have been many treads written about Schweitzer. It is fun, i grew up there. where did he move? There is every type of skiing there and enough terrain to keep you busy. However, there isn't an amazing park. It is good, but not up to par with whister, keystone, breck, etc. there are 5 ski resorts within a 2 hour drive. then if you want to go to canada, it is only 1.5 hours away. Kickinghorse (if you are looking for a steep big mountain to ski) is not too far. Whistler is about a 10 hour drive. There is no night life to speak of. Unless you go on an event weekend. Doller Beers every thursday night in town, good place to meet the local skiers/snowboarders.

i dont know what your talking about but schweitzer has like the best park in the pacific northwest. and this year its supposed to be even better. dont go there if you want to ski lots of pow but for the park scene schweitzer is sickkkkkk

I've skied Schweitzer's park more than anyone else in the past 7 years and it's not that great. I know from experience that Bachelor's park is way better, so Schweitzer definitely isn't the best in the PNW. Schweitzer is definitely the best park in the Spokane/Idaho panhandle area, but there's not much competition considering the other resorts around there.

And while I certainly can't predict the future, Schweitzer's always claimed that the park will get better and apart from a few new rails, it really hasn't lived up to that claim. Maybe next year will be different, but I decided not to chance another year of flat landings and minimal rail options and moved to Summit County, Colorado where I can ski real parks.

i dont know exactly where, he said about 20 mins from the canadian border. Where do you guys think I will get the most bang for my buck? I'd rather not drive 3-4 hours but if it's worth it, then I prob will.

Thanks for the responses.

your probably right. we dont have much to compare with big parks in idaho but schwitzer is definentaly a fun place to ski and probably worth it for a couple days of skiing

Thats bull shit. I've skied schweitzer for 19 years. and everyday i have a blast. I hated Bachelor, especially for the price $700 for a limited season pass. their parks were ok, but there were 2 rails set up all year (when they have a fleet of over 25). that isn't the point though. You can have fun at schweitzer, especially when you get a couple locals to show you around.

depends on when you will be there. i will be up there several times this winter. december- end of january, and a few weeks after that. i would love to show you around.

Last time I checked they hold the No. 3 tree skiing ranking in the US.. Poor boyz love the shit out of Schweitzer although I've heard the park isnt that great.. Ill be up there a couple times this year Im stoked.

last i heard was number 2 but that was so last season. i've only seen one day of schweitzer's public park and it was defiantly fun and different than a lot of the parks I usually see. Rumor has it i make make an appearance out there in 6 months.

Basically Schweitzer is a FUN mountain not a GREAT mountain. The tree skiing is epic on a pow day. Lots of fun natural terrain. The park is only real good about 20% of the season. The rest of the season the park crew is either super high and lazy, it snows a ton and the park is buried, or the park crew is focused on something else other than the park like Stomp games ect. Its worth your money and if you don't have fun its your own damned fault.

word, this pretty much sums it up
and the super high and lazy thing is true. and they didn't have enough of them.its a fun place to ride though

hahahahaha wow shit! thats all i have to say. Damn that blows that the crew was up all night the night before setting all the rails and they had to get up in like 4 hours after that and open and couldnt dig out the rails they just set the night before. shit that sucks. maybe they should jack season pass prices. but what do i know. im pretty sure they leave a cat in the park for the under budget and under staffed park crew to just reshape the park and make everything all nice and neat and perfect for the park riders to ride on pow days. ya im pretty sure whistler and mammoth do that. cause they can just do that while the hill is open right?! im pretty sure. im not too sure. ya they smoke chron but fuck who doesn't! sounds like some people fucking need to. damn thatd be hard to do when most people just sit and session the same feature over and over. and thatd be hard to comunicate with fellow park crew members too when people have found radios and dont return them. all i have to say is ive grown up at schweitzer and people are pointing the finger at people who they call homies. gay as fuck. obviously you dont know where the core of skiing is. and fuck dig out the features?????? get out and ski pow! and if not then you can pick up a fucking shovel. damn ive done it enough and i dont get a pay check. take pride in where you ride. but i found a solution. i heard lookout is getting this huge budget and this huge park crew. id check it! all the sponsors will be there! its gonna go off! fuck thats where i got my pass to go and bitch about next year!

Ha no shit I'm with P.H. I'm so fuckin sick of hearing these fuckin pussies bitch about Schweitzers park. Its not the best but it aint to fuckin shabby either. Many good rails and a few good jumps. You really cant blame the 5 man over worked and under paid park crew for the shitty location of the park much less the pinner budget that they have to work with. Some of these guys have worked their asses off for years in the park and they are the same guys that biult everything for the Poor Boyz movie that you all "Feed The Geese" (jerk ur weiner) to. By the way sick movie!

If when you crash or suck you blame the jump or the park crew you are just a fuckin pussy pussy pussy pussy pussy. So FUCK YOU.

Regardless of how the park looks, I'm sure I'm gonna have a great time there. Gas prices are making this trip a very solid reality as long as they stay down by the end of feb. Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Well Mr. p.hemingway I understand what goes on in the park also. Sure those guys bust ass sometimes, but most of the time they do only what they have to to get by. Have you ever worked on a park? I sure have and there was only one other guy on the whole crew and we had 20 features to maintain. I got that shit dug out every day it snowed for all the fags who ride park on a pow day and also (key point here) so that when the cat drivers came in and groomed at night they could do a better job so the park would stay in better shape longer. So with their 5 man crew they should get more done than they do. Thats all Im sayin. I have skied at Schweitzer for years also and I have been friends with guys on the park crew. Anyways Schweitzer is dope, it just could be so much better.

Doesn't matter what people want for a park. The only opinion that counts is mountain managements opinion. In Schweitzers case the park is good enough. If they wanted a super pipe they would have one believe me I know what I'm talking about. Get people to book a vacation and then under deliver. Over promise and under deliver. Besides Mt Spokanes park is voted the number one park in the northwest just read their brochure it will tell you. And most important I justed got done fucking Ted Langetys mom again and now my friends are doin her. Fuck you Ted you fuckin pussy.
